The location is great, right next to the lake and by the ferry stop.
I paid the local tax on check-in and stupidly declined to get a receipt - they'd have noted it. But no, i was asked again for it on check-out the next morning.
I went out and stupidly handed my key in. On returning, a group was checking in. My key was handed to them. Luckily they spotted they had too many keys and handed it back. While all this was going on, someone, the restaurant manager?, was loitering around. Surely they'd have been able to give me my key rather than keep me waiting? It was like it was beneath his dignity to deal with the front desk, which is really only a desk in a corner of a bar area.
The restaurant was cleared up/set up for breakfast until after 1am. Cleaning started before 7am, including hoovering and clearing the restaurant toilets opposite my room. I didn't have a great sleep.
I didn't have dinner or breakfast.

Small boutique quality hotel situated on the water from in the village of Cully. The hotel has recently undergone an extensive renovation and is now managed by the same team as the hotel Auberge Du Raisin, which is just around the corner. Bedroom and bathroom were both fitted out to a high standard. The bedroom had a good view over the lake. There was no air conditioning but that was not a problem as cool air could be sought via the window. Breakfast in the restaurant was fine.

For those traveling to Switzerland. This is a wonderful place to be. It sits right on Lake Geneva and is in a wonderful little town that has definite old world charm but is close enough to take advance of larger more modern cities. It is relaxing and most certainly French. The feel here is French that is expected since France and Switzerland share Lake Geneva. The food is great and the thousand year old vineyards and terraced hillsides are remarkable. The hotel to Western Travelers is different. There is no AC in the rooms ot TV. The rooms are well appointed and well taken care of, but in the summer the lack of AC can be uncomfortable. The hotel restaurant is very good and the view from the garden fro dinner is truly spectacular. This is a very romantic spot and is good for a longer trip or a short stay while traveling the country

The newly renovated Major Davel situated right on the promenade of Lac Leman is a true gem. We have known the small hotel's restaurant and the beautiful terrace for decades but have never stayed the night before since the rooms before the renovation where somewhat basic. Now the rooms have modern, luxuriously equipped bathrooms, wooden floors and very comfortable beds. We stayed for six nights and were impressed by the calm, the gorgeous view over the lake from our room, the very good food and the wonderfully friendly and professional service. It felt a lot more like a five star hotel than a three star country inn.

The breakfast was also very good with its ample choice of cold meats, cheeses, fresh jams and a good variety of bread/croissants.

Do not miss climbing up into the vineyards behind the village and the little beach near the hotel.

We are looking forward to coming back soon.

We stopped here by chance in mid-September. Got a fine room overlooking the hotel terrace and village promenade by the lake. Very nice breakfasts the two mornings we were there. A 1 minute walk to the departure point for the lake steamer to Montreux and the Castle of Chillon. I think the hotel has undergone a lot of renovations since some of the previous reviews. Our room was modern, fresh, clean comfortable, well-kept, and there is now an elevator. What really makes a hotel are the staff, and they were energetic, friendly, ready to help with whatever. I don't usually collect staff names, but Joseph (day manager), and Oceane, Morgane, and Chin were friendly, energetic, and top-ranking even by Swiss hotel standards. And the free wifi was just fine.

Shame on you Riviera coast vaudoise ! Shame on you for allowing such bad food on such a beautiful location ! The chef is obviously a fraud. Never have I been more disappointed in a restaurant lately. Looks cheap, tastes awful. Come on guys ? Who do you think you are fooling ?

After a long drive through France from Calais we need a quite stop close to Lausanne, which is a busy, cosmopolitan, noisy Swiss city. We found the Major Duval boutique hotel and restaurant and booked a night as a complete gamble. What a find! With a lovely suite overlooking the peaceful Lake Geneva we enjoyed a delicious meal on the terrace outside which is exactly what we had hoped to find. We shall return without doubt.

We came home yesterday from our short stay with an overnight stay at the Hotel Le Major Davel. Unfortunately we cannot rate it as positive, although it has improved a lot since the Gauer family took over and the rooms have apparently been renovated. The location is of course a dream but the rooms are very spartanly furnished, rather cold. The heating was rather cold and the sockets for lamps and lights were incorrectly installed. There is also no TV, but that doesn't bother us too much, we can watch at home. We are more of a bookworm anyway. All in all rather disappointing and with such high room prices!! To pay extra for breakfast and for that price, I don't know! Dear Mr Gauer, I just hope you don't make the same mistake as your parents did with the Hotel Schweizerhof in Bern: never invest, just take until you have to sell, to the Saudis back then. Celebrate big parties and decorate yourself and "forget" the numbers!

Although the hotel is not fully booked, we get a room where the window cannot be opened because of the smell of fish and the loud kitchen ventilation. What a pity. Nicely renovated and great hotel location.
