Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had an amazing four day stay at el boato - the accommodation couldn’t be faulted in any way, and all of the staff were beyond friendly and professional. Perfect stay for couples. A great base to explore the area, and they were very helpful in arranging local transportation and experiences. The food was also excellent!

This was my second time in this AMAZING hotel, I went first on July 2021 were I got engaged to my now husband and then on September 2022 I went with a couple of German friends. I highly recommend to stay at least 2 nights so you can have enough time to enjoy and relax. The first day we arrived and just stayed at the hotel, enjoyed the jacuzzi and then did some smores at the fire place. The next day we decided to go to Guatape, climb the rock, went to the town and at the afternoon went back to the hotel had some massages with that view (was such a relaxing moment for us). We also enjoyed paddle boarding.
The food is amazing! Everything was so delicious, we tried almost everything from the menu.

Boato met all my expectations, I have known Guatapé and the area for years and they definitely offer more than a comfortable accommodation, it is a magical experience. The food, the very comfortable beds, the view of the water and the forest and best of all the staff service. I highly recommend using the jacuzzi at night with a good glass of wine.
I will be back and recommending you to visit.

Mixed emotions about this hotel. While the view is stunning and the beds are cozy they have missed the mark on a few things.

If you only stay one night you miss the free boat ride ( they don’t tell you about the free boat ride until the day you check in) because it’s only offered at 11am or 12:30pm. 11am would not allow ample time to check out and by 12:30pm you need to be checked out.

No massage information was offered prior to check or at check in. The pizza was soggy and did not seem fresh. Tried again with breakfast and the avocado toast was so soggy I couldn’t eat it. Truly a bummer on the food!

It was extremely hot in the room and couldn’t be enjoyed until after sunset. Lastly, I was told I didn’t need a reservation for the paddle boards and kayaks and when I arrived they told me they were all reserved leaving no time for water activities.

For the price to stay I am not convinced it’s worth it.

The hotel has a great view but it’s really run down, looks abandoned by the owners or they run out of money to fix it and maintain. it’s a 2 star hotel “conditions” at the moment ( I stayed in better 2 stars hotels in the past.
What saves this place is the view ( witch is great) and the staff, as they are unstoppable to make you feel welcome. The staff is for sure the best part of this hotel, it’s what holds this business, hope the owner pays them well, they deserve.
But don’t come here expecting a good condition property as it’s all a quite broken and out of place. ( the kitchen does not have thins for you to use, there is NO coffee machine, the window in the bathroom was broken and did not close, the kitchen doors were all broken and did not close, what can I say crazy bad conditions).
If you are staying only the view and good service then yes this is a place for you.
It’s a 1 star room with 6 star employees and 5 star views and a 0 star owner. And this is a very honest review for the price you pay it’s actually hilarious. Worst hotel I stayed in Colombia in the 4 weeks i stayed in Colombia. And one of worst conditions hotel I stayed from the 54 countries I visited. The owner should really be ashamed of selling it in this conditions.

The pick up experience was just terrible..! (The roads are being fixed so a 30 min boat ride is the only way to get here)… Staff was apologetic but it could have easily been remediated off communication was better. We were waiting one and half hour to be picked up by the boat when they normally pick people up every hour… I’ll update more later

Our stay was beautiful. The houses are very cozy and private, the food is very tasty. The staff was very attentive and your nice receptionist Gabriela, she gave us the best attention we have received in this country, very attentive and her work is wonderful. They have transportation to Peñol. We would highly recommend this place.

To begin with this Hotel is a great choice if you're in the region to visit Guatape or the attraction El Peñol. Its only a 5-10 min drive from both. Cost benefit was excellent. The views from the cabin are magnificent, jaw dropping and the service was top notch. I stayed here with my wife's family, we were 5 and had a blast. Included in the rate was a delicious breakfast and activities such as kayak and paddle boarding. I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended the place to 2 friends lookong to visit soon!

WOW! This place is AMAZING! The villas are built against the mountains. Some are overlooking the lake, and others the garden. Well, I had the one overlooking the lake, and the view was breathtaking. Bu-Tee-Ful! This place was one in harmony with nature. Make sure to have WhatsApp because that is how you'll communicate with the staff in Spanish or English.

Let's talk about the services and five-star customer service. Checking in was the easiest process ever, and everyone appeared so happy working there. The staff members received us well, and our bags were taken to the villa. Be ready for some involuntary exercise.

And I did say this beautiful property is on a mountain, right? However, it wasn't bad for someone like me who barely visits a gym.

The provided services are outstanding. So when the night came, someone went around to start our fire pit on our private balcony once it got dark (make sure to ask for extra wood). That would be the best time to order your meal. Food was easy to order and highly affordable. Breakfast is complimentary and delicious.

The food, wow, was excellent, and the presentation was outstanding. Trust me, you will have no choice but to order in during the evening because you won't want to have to truck up to get something to eat.

I highly suggest you have your driver stop at a small grocery store to order a case of regular-size bottled water and snacks. However, the room does come well stocked with drinks and snacks if you want to spend the money. Honestly, I didn't trust the snacks because of the room temperature during the day, and I was concerned about how long they were in the room untouched.

Anyways, that is my only 2% negative from a 110% rating, which is still an A+.

Speaking of temperature, there is no air conditioning, but the room was very cool and comfortable at night to sleep. I was barely in the villa during the day, but I just wanted to let you know.

First learned of Guatape and El Boato from watching reviews on YouTube. We especially liked the look and layout of the El Boato. It was easy for us to reach out to the property via WhatsApp. They arranged safe and efficient private transportation to and from MDE airport at a reasonable cost. We were given a casita closest to the lobby which was both a blessing, (because all the other casitas could be quite a challenging walk for some people), and a curse because you can hear the constant music from the lobby/restaurant. We learned to live with the music which eventually went off at 9PM and were thankful we did not have to climb the hill to either go to town or to dine at the restaurant.
The casita was warm and inviting. It came equipped with a two burner surface gas stove. Fridge with mini-bar and snacks for sale. Room also came equipped with plates, silverware, coffee cups and glasses. Our room did not come with a coffee maker, just a couple of packets of instant coffee. I asked if they had something else to assist me in making coffee and they brought to the room an electric kettle. I purchased a container of instant coffee in town which was much easier than the two packets. We were surprised to find that they did not have an adequate supply of fresh coffee in the restaurant for the diners? The room included a large portable electric fan which we used several times to cool down the room from the afternoon sun. We had no problem getting to sleep at night, the temperature was fine for sleeping. The room had two large sliding glass doors to view the lake and let the fresh air in. No screens, we had several sparrows visit but they quickly left. Our bed and pillows were comfortable. We knew there was no room safe but there was nothing to worry about and not needed. Shower and sink were wonderful.

Our complaints:Not enough hand to wels and another property with no facecloths. Perhaps they get taken? The wooden chairs inside the room were extremely uncomfortable and one was in need of repair. You just could not sit in them comfortably. The two deckchairs also were of odd design and as a result you are unable to adjust them much. The hot tub was nice but the water faucet to fill it was installed in the wrong place. You had to literally get into the hot tub to change the temperature, which is challenge with the hot water heater type they utilize for it.

We did enjoy the nightly fire. Yes, you have your own personal fire pit on your deck! And each nite a nice gentleman brings the wood and makes the fire for you!
Unfortunately during our stay, unknown to us, the lake was very low. We were told that the lake was intentionally drained so they could work on it. People were still kayaking from the dock and were able to manage the long walk down the steps to the dock. If I could I would suggest installing a handrail.
The property also managed to always secure a Tuktuk for us which was very helpful. It was safe and we always knew the $ into Guatape. The property is very convenient both to El Penol and Guatape.
Everyone who worked at The Boato were friendly and we always received great service. Gabriella was awesome and always made sure that we were confortable.
Food and drink were very reasonable and you have the option of dining in your room.
We enjoyed our trip to Guatape and staying at El Boato.
