Long Ngum view resort is just out of Thalat, right next to Ang Ngum reservoir in a little village. It's the perfect place for travelers to explore the man made lake without having to get a tuk-tuk every morning to it. We stayed in one of the Laos style houses, which had an incredible view of the lake and islands. Our room had complimentary bottled water, and wash things.
It was a little more expensive than we would usually go for (180.000 k) but it was cheaper than the only other option Salapa fishermans round the corner.
Cleanliness wasn't quite up to the standard you would expect in this price range but it wasn't too bad, although there were a couple of little holes in our wooden floor, and we did get quite a lot of ants in our bathroom. None got into our room though.
There was no plug socket for the Tv though
we had air con and a fan and our beds were comfortable.
There is also a very nice pool which you can see the incredible view from, a restaurant, bar and free pool table. Breakfast was included in the price.
We arrived on a weekday and the place was almost deserted, it was nice and quiet to relax in but the staff weren't very attentive and nothing was really set out for breakfast till we asked where it was and bar was quiet and empty.
On Saturday night however the place filled up and all the locals came for a drink. It was like it was a different place. The staff were friendly and attentive, an English speaking woman even turned up and the bar has music. Breakfast on the weekend also seemed like a different place, a buffet style spread. Although we had got everything the day before we had just had to ask.
I'm not sure whether i would recommend going in the week or weekend, i would say a day of both is perfect. the week is very nice to relax and weekend is a bit busier with more going on. Depends on preference really.

We were driven up to the "resort" by a crazy driver along a road that requires a bit of work so it was not the best start, once we arrived we were amazed by the views, the room we had required cleaning, we got the cleaners to reclean it but was still well below what would be acceptable, we were there on a Sunday and Monday so there is no entertainment in the karaoke bar, the bar has an extensive range of wine and spirits on shelves behind the bar but they are just for show, its beer Lao or soft drinks, the pool was nice and great views over the dam, the area surrounding the pool had the previous nights debris all around though, this could be a fantastic resort but it is run down and requires an overhaul, the staff were all nice and helpful

The view from the reservoir side may possibly be one of the most stunning and beautiful in Laos - the stuff of travelling dreams. Worth the off the beat journey alone. Na Nam, the waterside village offers a range of very local eating places. There are an endless amount of boats to ferry you around the reservoir. We booked for an extended break in the middle of a long period of moving from place to place.

It was the endless blasting of synthetic, rave style music from morning to night, from the boats, restaurants and the hotel itself, that nearly led to our dallying thoughts of extreme actions as an escape from this attempt to create "Ibiza in Indochina" There was nowhere to escape from it. Soon as you sat down to eat, some callow youth exploded your eardrums with his limited understanding of what constituted Western dance music. Any request, in any place, to moderate the level of noise met with non comprehension and little action. Loud music and karaoke proved to be their way of attracting custom.

With just the slightest knowledge of hotel management, the resort could be turned into an absolute jewel. Instead, it appears to be run for the benefit of the children, who are employed there. Their days are spent playing the pool table, belting out on the karaoke when they can break from their trance like involvement with their phones. I went to the front desk to request something and the receptionist actually tutted as she was in the middle of a number on the karaoke machine. She acknowledged my request and physically ran back to the spotlight. Fawlty Towers would not be able to recreate a creditable impression of the lack of any hands on management in this resort.

There is a real difference between the aspect of the rooms. Superior mountain view means at the back, no balcony and facing a tree covered rock wall. Beware! Rooms are acceptable (good cleaning staff) but no hot water or internet in the rooms. Is the beauty of the view worth the trip. Overall, I rather fancy that the disappointments would provide the overall lasting memories.

This hotel had a great view but it was dirty and overpriced. The rooms were very small and leaky. The television did not work and the water was brown. The materesses were too hard and the extra bed was just a blanket on the floor. Overall not a good place to stay

Me and my friends needed a getaway just during the weekends. As a local tourist,I didn't expect much about the service and facilities, but with the money that we paid, it was a huge disappointment. The rooms (we have booked 3 bedrooms) were all poorly cleaned, especially the toilets that looked like never been cleaned before. They smell so bad, the mirror was cracked and the sink was somehow didn't work. Free wi-fi didn't work despite a huge sign in front of the resort. Forgot that you could enjoy the breakfast because it caused me diarrhea afterwards. My bedroom was covered with dust that I had to ask for new bed sheet. Bad experience ever. The management team could have done better if they have a bit more efforts. The view was fantastic, would definitely come back but not staying at this resort, ever.

The resort is selling itself as something that it is not. It is not a place that caters to/for foreigners. It is basically a party place for rich Lao from Vientiane Capital (as told to me by my Lao wife). The photos are misleading and do not show that major maintenance is required.

The owner/manager speaks some basic English but most/if not all staff (who seem to be young family members) do not. Though it was Pi Mai (Lao New Year) and we do know some staff were away.

There are western style foods on the menu but are very poorly prepared by western standards. All menu items are expensive, even by Laos tourist town comparison (we live and work in Luang Prabang).

It's, at least, 2 hours from Vientiane Capital by car. Bus service is very difficult. There was construction going on at the resort and so repairs may be in order.

The cost to rent a boat on the lake is also very expensive. But the restaurants along the lake serve good food at more reasonable prices.

The view is amazing. Just don't expect any western standards at the resort at prices you would expect in Laos.

We spent two nights here in a pretty big room facing the lake. The view from our balcony as well as from the pool area were simply stunning.
There are several really nice little restaurants in the village. Meals cost a bit more than average but you could get fried fish for 60.000 kip.
There‘s not much to do around the area if you don‘t do a boat tour. Unfortunately, kayak rental was not available.
Staff were always very friendly, we were even driven back to Thalat because we needed an ATM. It’s also a very calm place. We definitely recommend staying here. Recommendation: Contact the property in advance to arrange how to get there.

I had wonderful sleep that serve my purpose. Room is big.

Feel pity to the resort. I book the room with view of Lake 450,000kip. I don’t expect 4 or 5 stars service , just need clean room and nice service. Overprice for dirty and spider web room. I wanted to read at balcony and enjoy the view, chair is too dirty and spider web. I do wondering myself. Do manager check the room cleanliness or not.

I went down for breakfast at 8:00am, breakfast is buffet, food simple but all the plates almost empty, no refill. I was walking down for checkout, staff saw me carry the bag, he just looked at me then continue using his mobile phone and enjoy the seating area for the guests.

Internet is not working.

Is it a construction site or a ruin? The end of the street offers only this place to stay if you decide to have a nice lake view. Take a minivan from Vientiane Northern Bus station to Ban Thalat, then a tuk-tuk for 50.000 KIP. Don’t expect a greeting or someone helping you to carry our bag to the room. If you don’t speak Lao it will be difficult. They might call someone to speak English or Thai. Rooms are old and urgently need a make-over. Ants and hair on the bed and the floor, ancient A/C and some Laos TV channels on the old TV-screen (no batteries in the remote control ….). WiFi only at the reception area but connection is slow. The restaurant is overpriced but you can find some nice and cheap local restaurants in the nearby village next to the lake. On the weekend the resort is overwhelmed b Laos families. But it’s still the best around here. Better make it as a day trip and return afterwards to some where else.

Firstly we booked a superior room - as per the picture on Agoda!!!! Don't believe it. We paid the superior room price but were given an inferior room in the old building. They may be nice in the new building but very mediocre in the original building.the room was clean but dated. Not worth the $30. The free (or included) breakfast from 7 - 10 may be good at 7 but from 8.15 - 10 you have the leftovers to pick from. They won't cook extra or provide more. The pool is well situated with a great view but the water was not very clean, and the same goes for the small kids pool. The food and drinks were very expensive and I would recommend stocking up on some things like beer, snacks, soft drinks etc and take with you. The staff were very slow and uninterested spending their time watching the TV in the restaurant rather than clearing tables or considering the customers and there was rarely a smile between the vast number of them. They were totally disinterested even to the point of not charging for items. we ordered 3 beers, a pepsi and fried chicken. They totally forgot to charge for the chicken until I pointed it out (stupidly). Next time Fried rice and a beer - bill for fried rice only and I had problems getting the bill as the TV was on. The location by the lake is great and about 10 minutes walk to the harbour, restaurants and boats. The only reason I would go again is because there is nowhere else in the area and the location and the view is great.
