I come for the view and I stay for the breakfasts! Nothing like croissants and pastries coming directly from our oven. What a treat to smell that around the house in the morning! Nadia very kindly prepares a breakfast selection that I like to eat out the front of the house with my coffee in the morning. The house looks over the spot "Prainha", "Lagide" and "Gigi". You can get to all 3 on foot without crossing any roads and is walking distance from another spot that faces another direction entirely — "Cantinho da Baia". Plenty to choose from.

This is a really amazing house. You have an amazing view on the ocean and a surf park. All you need is there. It is really clean. You can live in and share the house with others guys without hearing too much about what there are doing. It is so clean and you can ask if you have any problem or anything. The decoration is inspired by Bali and so chill. There is a beautiful and big living room AND THE BEST IS AN AMAZING ROOFTOP WITH A BIG JACUZZI !!! I’ll come back for sure !

This house is really, really cool. Situated less then a stone's throw away from two amazing surf beaches, every morning at balili consists of walking up onto the roof and checking the surf. The atmosphere and facilities of the house has everything you could want from a surf retreat; board racks, open kitchen, a room solely for yoga and meditation and, prehaps most importantly a jacuzzi with ocean views. The rooms are kept very tidy with a cleaner visiting bi weekly. The staff are more then happy to facilitate any requests you have wether it be hiring surf equipment, surf or yoga lessons, or even transport. Situated on baleal island, one of the most picturesque parts of Portugal I have been to (have attached some photos), I really can't fault this place for a surf, yoga or purely relation getaway. The locals in the area are all very friendly also. I recommend visiting in winter when the surf is much better and the area is far more quiet. As I have been in baleal during both summer and winter and preferred the latter. The climate during this time is still very mild and i even had some very warm days. I hope you enjoy your stay at balili as much as I did.

Oh boy, where to start.. 1. The pictures uploaded to Tripadvisor to showcase the accommodation as of summer 2019 does not give you a realistic expectation. They have three rooms, but only the prettiest and largest is shown on Tripadvisor. Management apparently have a hands-off principle about this. They hide behind the Tripadvisor is "user-uploaded content", so we cannot do anything about your "double bedroom with an ocean view" which turned out to be a chamber, a bunk bed and a tiny ceiling window with an actual view to the ocean - at 80€ per day. Funny though, 21 of the 48 photos of Balili House on Tripadvisor are uploaded by management. 2. BED BUGS - need I say more? I alone got 300 bites in one night. We left the morning after. I had to cover myself up for the rest of our holiday. 3. "Oh yea, you might not like the room you've been given, but you'll love breakfast". Breakfast was okay, but you - depending on your temperament - might not like eating at a long table with no privacy of conversation. 4. The bathroom is shared. 5. Fire alarms? I didn't see one.

We had an amazing time at Balili House with professional and most funny surf lessons. We had delicious breakfast and lunch every day. The place is beautiful and cosy. The living room is perfect for the after surf chillout. You have a 360° view from the terrace and see the ocean in both directions. We are definitly coming back :)

I stayed at Balili surf house during one week in Mai 2019 for a surf and yoga retreat. Accommodation was clean, great, with nice and stylish decoration, my room (double room) was AMAZING (I opened the window and enjoyed a front sea view from the bed!), food (breakfast and lunch included as well as all day long snacks and drinks) was great (and it gets even better when lunches are at the other guest house of the same owners!). Yoga lessons every morning were high quality too, and surf ones amazing!!!!!! Jacuzzi time at the rooftop is just the best and the activities aside (specially the visit of a farmer house with an incredible surprise...). Well, I will come back for sure. Thanks to Barbara, Katia, Julie, Calili, James, Jose, Tiago... and to the yoga teachers that made my stay unforgettable. Ana 🇪🇸🇫🇷

I spend a week at Balili House for Yoga and Surfing and had a marvelous time! The house is lovely decorated, very chill - like on the pictures you can find online. I felt home immediatly. The people working there are so welcoming and warm, it's so easy to get along with them. They take time to chat with you and are very helpful. It's like sitting at a table with long time friends. The Yoga lessons I was able to attend were wonderful. I felt really well guided and learned a lot! Angelika and Caro put a lot of effort into the lessons. No lesson was like the one before. I loved it! And the Surf teachers are incredible as well - funny, easy-going, down to earth and damn good at teaching. Every cell of James is breathing "surfing"! No doubt! Two little sidenotes: 1) Now and than the Balili-Team seemed a bit - lets say - spontanious organizied. But in the end everything worked out great. 2) There is a jacuzzi which unfortunately didnt work during my stay there. All in all: I can definitly recommend going there if you're looking for a chill, fun time!

I stayed for a week at Balili and did the surf package (2x2 hour surf lessons 5 days a week). Brilliant spot - 2 great surf beaches walking distance away and the island is the most picturesque spot in the area with cute little Portuguese houses, cliffs, a traditional chapel and a few resteraunts and bars. The little town- a 5 minute walk away- along the beach has some surf shops and a supermarket for buying your crate of Sagres beer for post surf refreshment! The house is really cool and cosy, with good Wi-Fi in the lounge area. Our room wasn't the best - I stayed in the shared room with the bunk bed which had a window opening into the lounge (not outside) so it was a little warm at night and noisy. But if you're someone who doesn't need silence to sleep it's fine, or request one of the other rooms. Breakfast was fab every morning - just what you need to set you up for a busy day! I wasn't a huge fan of the dinners as I found them a bit tasteless, however the lady did grow the food herself in her own garden so it was really healthy and wholesome. Lunch was a light salad which was fab. The night of making our own pizzas and seeing how boards are shaped in an eco lodge/farm was a hilight- really atmospheric night eating by the light of the open fire. I didn't see much of one of the hosts as I didn't do yoga, but Helen was very warm and made the group feel like a family. Altogether a brilliant experience with amazing staff, and perfect for a solo traveller. The surf lessons in particular were the best I have had overseas. Eventhough I was a little more advanced than beginner, I was given loads of attention and tips on how to turn and ride along the face of a wave etc, even in a class full of beginners- the instructor Will was an excellent coach. Really fun and challenging- although aiming to do 4hrs of surfing every day for 5 days was maybe a bit ambitious and if I go back I would maybe only do a lesson in the morning and go out myself in the afternoon a few times as it's such a workout ! The only thing I would change would be maybe introducing some ground rules for the house. As it's marketed more as a guest house and not really as a budget hostel I think asking guests not to use drugs in the house or bring back strangers to party is maybe reasonable. But that's only a personal opinion and I still enjoyed the experience. Thank you Balili for a great holiday !
