My husband and I stayed 2 nights at this B&B, located right on the water in Baleal. Vitor, the host/owner, is an elderly gentleman who was so polite and adorable. The decor in the place is nautical/whaling-related, as "Baleal" comes from the Portuguese word for "whale." The town used to be a whaling town in the Middle Ages! The view from our bedroom window is bar-none, the best view I've ever had in any hotel/B&B. Our room faced west, and watching the sunset was an experience I'll never forget. Since we were there in mid-April, peak surfing season was over, but we still saw many surfers riding the waves at the beach and had such good breakfast served by Vitor. The room was also very tidy and clean. I figure they took a big hit from the pandemic but the stay was really so nice. We were provided a clean and comfy bed, toiletries, and clean bathroom. If you're planning on visiting Peniche or Baleal, we highly recommend this place as opposed to the other Casa de Mares. Each one is run by a different host and Vitor's place was the only one still in operation (from what we could tell).

We stayed here two days in mid June 2022, Vitor is a gracious host and welcomed us with Port wine on the veranda. The homemade breakfast was delicious and the room was cozy, comfortable and well appointed. We will be back for another stay soon!

We stayed for 4 wonderful days. The view from the bedroom is stunning, the place feels so exotic and homely at the same time. Vittor and his helpers are welcoming and kind. The breakfast is gorgeous. I had yoga with Andrea in a room upstairs while my husband was surfing. We had a perfect stay.

Very charming place, with really nice and attentive staff. The rooms are small but very comfortable and cute. And the view is breathtaking Summer or Winter! It's romantic and the small village is adorable and the beaches around are great. I totally recommend it and I hope I'll return some day soon.

We had the best time staying here! The location was incredible for both surfing and swimming with a small beach right below the house and two main surfing beaches just down the road! The room was really nice with a comfy bed and great view. Plenty of great restaurants and bars close by which look out over the ocean. The hospitality was incredible and the morning breakfast was fantastic especially when it was had on the porch on a sunny day. Would highly recommend this place!

We stayed four wonderful nights with another couple at this lovely bed and breakfast that is set right at the western tip of Baleal with the ocean almost all around it. A magical spot where you can watch the surfers and the small fishing boats and just relax. Victor (the owner) is a charming and gracious host with the help of the lovely Norma who looked after us and served us amazing breakfasts on the front terrace if it was sunny and in the front room if it was not. Our rooms were clean and light with views and double glazing. We often had a night cap compliments of Vitor.

There are restaurants within walking distance which are very good and free parking just behind the property.

If you are looking for a bit of piece and quiet away from the hustle and bustle, this bed and breakfast ticks all the boxes. There are three B&Bs in the one building, all named Casa das Mares so make sure you go for this one with the number 3 (it’s actually the first one you come to).

We really enjoyed our 2 nights at Casa das Mares 3! Our room looked right out onto the ocean, with beautiful cliffs and we could watch the local fishermen go and return from the tiny beach, as well as watching the surfers all day.

We were served a delicious breakfast every morning on the little front patio and enjoyed having cocktails out there before dinner.

Our host, Vittor, was always aware of what we might need and Norma, his assistant, was so pleasant and helpful.

Baleal is quiet, and beautiful. And this bed and breakfast is a real little gem.

We had an amazing 2 nights here. The friendliest host. Room with a wonderful view. Fantastic breakfast and for those who surf well you have a choice of 3/4 different breaks and the best part is that you can check out the surf from your window. A week here would be ideal.

Casa das Marés is sitting at the tip of a headland in the Atlantic. At night you have nothing but the sound and smell of the sea on both sides. Rooms are moderately sized. Very tidy and clean. The beautiful smell of moisture. Breakfast on the terrace is wonderful, a selection of everything, set out for you in the morning by the staff. I've been there in summer, but will to go there again in winter, when the wind is howling and the waves are pounding. I can only recommend the place.

"All rooms have a sea view. The choice is whether you want to see the beach or the waves crashing on rocks. We had room 3 which we loved and would ask for again."
