Visited with family on their Wednesday steak night. Two of us had sirloin steaks which were beautifully-cooked and came with chips, tomato, mushroom and great onion rings-excellent food and great value. We chose two of the sauces : peppercorn and mushroom, both of which were good. White wine was served in an ice bucket-as it should be. We also enjoyed a red wine Prices of wine are reasonable. Our table also had scampi and fish and chips, both came with good, home-made tartare sauce. The place was quite busy for a village on a Wednesday-perhaps due to the £13.50 steak offer! Service staff could do with a bit more training as the welcome was not particularly warm and I would describe the interaction with us as procedural rather than friendly and I am not sure why they played the radio station over the PA rather than some nice music. After our meal I had a pleasant chat with the chef.

Lovely place to stay and the food is excellent . however , room 9 is the smallest of their rooms and the bathroom was very poor . Would give that a miss if possible . Lots of redecorating needed , it’s very tired in places .. ladies toilet is a bit bleak .

We have been many years and twice a year to visit my dad and always a lovely experience. We usually book The Clipper room as love the space and sea view. The staff are always friendly and give you a warm welcome! Fab place!

Good food, poor service - whilst the food was nice, there wasn’t a warm welcome. The service style was abrupt and not warm. It felt that you were there just to fill the seats and not have a fulfilling dining experience. There was a young lad who was the only friendly member of staff.

My mum and visited this hotel for 1 night. We had a wedding at Humber Barn just a short drive up the road. Tgecstaff were lovely and friendly. They went out of their way to help us when we arrived as we needed to get ready for the wedding. They also helped provide Taxi numbers and helped book it for us. Every staff we saw were always on hand to help. The food looked lovely. We only had breakfast, which was wonderful! There was a steak night whilst we were there. The restaurant was packed, so looks like it's very popular there. The room was lovely. All clean & so nice to have a little balcony. Although unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy it as the weather was horrible.

We went out for Sunday Lunch last week and had a lovely meal, the roasts were delicious and came with plenty of vegetables and lovely cauliflower cheese, as well as a giant Yorkshire pudding each. The staff were so helpful and attentive and we all had a great time. Thank you very much.

My mother and I went for lunch. We both chose from the £8 menu. I had the scampi and Mum had the Caesar salad. The scampi was soggy, not crisp, the chips were scant and limp and the tartare sauce was tasteless. The only good thing on the plate was the peas. The lettuce in the Caesar salad was inedible as only outside leaves had been used, the croutons were huge and like bullets. Mum said that the dressing was flavoursome. I appreciate that we only paid £8 for each dish but that should not affect the quality. I have been coming to The Cockhaven for 35 years but will not be returning. Such a shame.

My husband & I stayed here 12 - 17 June and what a great place this is!! We had a double room with a terrace, overlooking the lovely garden and estuary (Room 11). Our friends joined us for a day and we all had a beautiful lunch. I actually asked the landlady if the chef was Michelin-starred, because the food was so good!! You really need to come here and sample what this Inn is made of!! John & Margaret Woodcock

We found the hotel on google at very short notice, having never heard of it before. It is a real gem, from good communication, easy booking & check-in, and friendly welcome, to very comfortable room (with a view of the Teign estuary), great breakfast and motivated, attentive staff.
