We had a first class time. The food and service were excellent as was our room and we had no problems with our dog. The countryside around is beautiful and this makes a great base for touring North-east England. There are also great walks in the vicinity. One place we would gladly return to.

We loved the Rose and Crown. It is a charming pub in a delightful peaceful village. We felt welcomed, relaxed and at home as soon as we walked in, fires blazing in the well kept bar, good choice of wine and beer, and such good staff. Emma in particular is a delight, nothing too much trouble, -but all the staff...

If you visited a restaurant and they served you chilled bland Chicken Liver pate with bread and frozen butter and a dead WASP in the lettuce how would you feel? We travelled from Newcastle to visit this place but we were bitterly disappointed, their 'young girls' staff are patronising and clueless, my shandy was flat and room temperature the Steak...

Our second visit here, after stumbling upon it last August. This time we stayed three nights and loved every minute of it. From check-in to check-out it was just the most completely relaxing experience. A big fire roaring in the bar, charming service in all areas, fine food and wine at dinner, and a good night's sleep - what more...

We stayed on a three night deal at the Rose and Crown. We paid for DBB for two nights and then received the third nights accomodation free (albeit with paying for breakfast on the third morning). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the atmopshere was relaxed and welcoming. Our room, in the...

We took advantage of a Sunday night all-inclusive deal, as did a few more people, which included afternoon tea and pre-dinner prosecco. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the (upgraded) room was ideal and the food was excellent. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

We visited this hotel for a drink on New Year's Eve 1999 and rembered it when looking on Tripadvisor for a place for a short walking break for my birthday. The reviews raised our expectations, but they were more than matched when we saw our marvellous room (No. 4) in the courtyard at the rear of the hotel. Even though...
