#2 of 3 B&Bs in Rowen

Tir y Coed is a boutique B&B and the house is a haven of peace and tranquility, ideal for a romantic break or a family get-together. Surrounded by an acre of mature landscaped gardens on the edge of Rowen, one of the Conwy valley's most delightful villages and just within the boundary of the Snowdonia National Park. Most bedrooms have views over the gardens and vary in size and style as would be expected in a period house. Each room has either an en suite bath or shower room a T.V. super-fast broadband (but no mobile signal, as we have mountains everywhere) as well as all the other stuff you'd expect to enable you to make yourself at home. Think fluffy white towels, feather and down duvets, proper coffee and big comfy beds. It is possible to dine in the evening by prior arrangement and we will be happy to discuss food options and preferences with you.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Chris and Sandra were the hosts with the most, very accommodating with a warm and welcoming attitude. The country house itself was beautifully presented. The room had everything needed for our stay. Cleanliness, Cozy and a Comfortable bed. Tea and Coffee are provided and the nice touches of having a fresh milk just outside our door was a bonus. The room we stayed in came equipped with a state-of-the-art Japanese toilet and an Amazon dot which gave the Country house a more up to date feel. The breakfast was faultless with a choice of Yogurts and fruit for starters served with Orange or Apple Juice then a cooked version accompanied by a coffee or tea. We were on a short vacation so wanted to make the most of our stay in North Wales so asked recommendations from Sandra who was more than helpful in telling us the best places to visit. All in all it was a five star review from us.

We went for two nights over the weekend towards the end of September and really loved every minute of our stay. Check-in was simple and informative, the rooms were clean and beautifully decorated, and the location was stunning. During check-in, I asked for information about places to go and eat, and Sandra gave us some great recommendations and advice around where to go, how to book etc. We had breakfast on both days which was to a high standard along with the service during the sitting, and in the evening we used the bar which had more choice of wines and spirits than your average pub! Talking of pubs, there is a friendly little pub about 5 mins walk from the hotel, which does evening meals (as the hotel doesn't currently) as well as a decent selection of draft products, so that ticks another box (be advised to book though as it was busy). All in all, a fantastic stay, and would recommend it to anyone!

Tir y Coed is absolutely beautiful. We felt relaxed from the moment we arrived, sitting in the gorgeous garden having a little drink to unwind after our journey. Chris and Sandra were so welcoming, giving advise on places to visit, booking taxis for us and were just generally lovely people! Breakfast was fantastic, we particularly loved sitting in the window of the dining room watching the woodpeckers and many other birds feeding. The bedroom was very comfortable, the bar (and honesty bar) were an added bonus. Would stay here again in a heartbeat, it’s really wonderful and in such a fab location.

My Wife and I have just spent a two-night break at the Tir y Coed Country House and can thoroughly recommend it to all. The House has great character and beautiful gardens to explore and relax in. The accommodation is an excellent blend of tradition with the latest in modern facilities. We found the food to be of a very high standard and thoroughly enjoyable. The Hosts, Sandra and Chris were very welcoming and extremely helpful with extensive knowledge of the area and recommendations of places to visit. A very enjoyable experience and one we have recommended to our family and friends.

This is a very gorgeous & well-maintained boutique hotel, nicely located about 3-4 miles outside Conwy in a tranquil & quiet village. The main things I value in a good hotel are, a comfy bed, a good shower, fluffy towels, good window coverings & a good breakfast. The hotel was excellent in all these areas. The decor in each room is well thought out & modern. Our breakfasts were well cooked, well presented & filling, made with top quality ingredients, including home-baked bread. We loved the nice touches such as fresh milk in flasks outside the rooms and home-baked cakes left in the room each day to have with coffee! Sometimes in small hotels it can feel like you're living in someone's house, but this didn't feel like that at all. Our hosts, Chris & Sandra were around & very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We appreciated the pre-stay message with suggestions about places to eat which was really helpful. The terrace & gardens are beautiful but sadly the weather in September wasn't good enough for us to use them - I think it would be fabulous in Summer. There's a honesty bar and comfortable lounge. Wi-fi worked perfectly throughout the hotel with a very good signal. Plenty of parking. Overall, we had a lovely stay & would definitely stay here again.

The current owners have received glowing reviews over the last five or so years - which would suggest that it was us who were out of kilter - but the fact that I myself normally give 5 stars to the establishments we stay in must mean that something isn't quite right... The problem I think stems from expectations being set too high and then not being met, and at c.£150 per night we certainly expected a better experience than we felt we had at this "boutique B&B" (and a Wolsey Lodge to boot). The three main things we look for in any B&B are (i) a comfortable bed; (ii) a decent breakfast; and (iii) affable hosts. All three elements left a lot to be desired, especially as - unlike most guests - we were staying five nights. We chose the G/F twin (Room 5) - misleadingly described on part of the website as a suite and surcharged at £20/night, even though one person has to sit on the bed to watch the TV. My wife’s main gripe was the sound of movement in the room above, but I also found it rather light on power sockets and, despite the superfast broadband, there was no Wi-Fi reception in the bedroom itself (although the lobby area was fine). For good or ill there isn’t space here to outline our actual issues (I've had to prune this review as TA now restrict reviews to 1500 characters), so you’ll have to message me if you want more details. Suffice to say that we didn’t enjoy our stay; thought it lacking in terms of hospitality; and was very much a case of style over substance.
