We are a 17th Century thatched freehouse pub in the middle of a beautiful chocolate box Dorset village. Serving excellent homemade local food, real ales and good wines. We also have six ensuite B&B guest rooms housed in a separate building at the rear of the pub. If you want a friendly welcome, courteous and good service with a delicious lunch, here is the place to visit. The food was wonderful. Not for the calorie conscious or for anyone worried about their waistline or heart, I recommend the sticky toffee pudding which was light and with a sufficiently sticky sauce and the homemade, creamy and smooth ice-cream.

We stayed for one night and found this little gem through Britstops, we had an evening meal and breakfast and everything was first class. We stayed in the car park in our motorhome with our 4 dogs and was made to feel very welcome - will definitely be back - thank you

I very rarely leave reviews on anything, however having had an evening meal here earlier with the family, I feel compelled. It was without doubt the nicest meal we've all had in a long time with amazing service & a beautiful courtyard setting. We had the rib eye steak, burgers & chicken schnitzel & it was all delicious & cooked to perfection. The desserts were indulgent & probably expanded the waste line by another inch, but who cares, we're on holiday. Our two teenage sons haven't stopped glowing about the visit & their meal, which takes some doing, so well done The Langton Arms!!! I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone.

Lovely pub. Delicious locally sourced food served in a friendly and warm atmosphere. We were in the function room for a birthday meal and we also enjoyed the skittles alley after our dinner. Nothing was too much trouble for the people working at the Langton Arms. We had a fantastic meal and a great night. We look forward to returning.

We stayed for a few nights, having had to cancel a trip abroad at the last minute and wanting a break.  The Langton Arms website is very light on information about the pub/restaurant itself and even the accommodation offered (you will learn much more about the owning family's butchery and farming activities), but we decided to go ahead and book as it is in a part of the country we love. The interior of the pub has a somewhat neglected air about it.  This is in spite of the fact that it apparently burned down in 2004 - most of the fittings and furniture look as if they have been around much longer than 18 years and not in a good, traditional pub way.  The bar doubles up as dining room on quiet nights, which would be fine, but it would be nice to have a natural fire or stove rather than nothing in the fireplace on a freezing night.  I understand the owners are paranoid about fire, bearing in mind their past experience, but surely an enclosed wood burning stove would be safe.  The restaurant, as such, is a separate room, used only for breakfast during our visit.  The gas stove there had been lit minutes before we arrived for breakfast each morning and the room was very chilly.  Otherwise, this room has a tired and unkempt feel about it. It leads to another dining area, which in turn leads to yet another room with tables.  There is yet more space for functions in a conservatory. The bedroom was separate from the pub, across a "courtyard" which provides tables and benches for drinkers and smokers on warm evenings.  The bedroom and bathroom, again, whilst quite functional, had not received any attention for years and the fact that the provided toiletries were absolutely basic quality wasn't a surprise.  The bed was comfortable, the shower over the bath worked well, but the lavatory cistern ran continuously. The Langton Arms website is coy about the food and drink on offer, with no sample menu or drinks list, despite having "Food" and "Drinks" sections.  We dined in on two nights and the food was pretty good, although the prices were on the high side - see menu photo attached.  Every pub/hotel/restaurant has fish and chips on the menu, and the Langton haddock and chips at £18.95 puts The Langton Inn menu squarely at the pricy end of pub food.  Similarly, wine was expensive - £27 for a bottle of South African SB is not very good value for money. The high pricing extends to the room rate ("Website Offer - Discount Exclusive") - £135.00 per night is way above what one would currently expect to pay for the quality of bed and breakfast facilities provided at The Langton Arms - I would say 35%.  I fully appreciate the problems those in the hospitality sector are facing at the moment, but the answer is not simply to put up prices and expect customers to accept a decrease in value for money.  Maybe the answer could be for The Langton Arms' owners to play a more hands-on role in the running of the place, which seems to be managed by various other staff members.  This would also give them the opportunity to take an objective view of how the business is presented to its customers and, hopefully, how many things might be improved for everyone's benefit.  We booked last minute as explained, but would not return as, with more lead-in time, there are undoubtedly better options available in the general area. We had tried to book our stay at The Beckford Arms, but they couldn't accommodate us at such short notice.  We called in there at lunchtime on the way home.  What a contrast.

We had a really great supper here, the food was absolutely superb, the staff great, the wine list reasonably priced and a lovely old pub. The only slight objection I had was for the sticky plastic lookingl coverings on the table, they are not in keeping with the standard of the rest of the offerings. Plain wooden tables would be better. But otherwise superb.

Dear Coolkoala, thanks so much for the fabulous review of your recent visit to us. Great to hear that the local Dorset food was fantastic, well-priced wine was enjoyed & you loved our charming old freehouse. We very much appreciate your visit. We know the plasti is not to everyone's taste but is the safest option in a busy restaurant with Covid still running its course. We look forward to the return of normality! Best wishes & HNY, All at The Langton Arms

Tucked away in the Tarrant Valley, this was an unexpected find. From the outside it is a classic country pub. Inside the décor doesn’t quite hit the right note, but it is cosy and the welcome very friendly. The menu offers a really good choice and best of all when the food arrives it looks better than expected and tastes sublime. We both had crispy squid, which was delicious with a zingy Thai dipping sauce and a fabulous, fresh, crispy salad with Thai dressing. I then had stuffed and wrapped roast chicken with creamy sauce, fries and another superb salad. My wife had a superb double cooked soufflé. Wines were great and the price entirely reasonable. They make much of all the ingredients being locally sourced, but for me the main thing is that it tastes wonderful!! Highly recommend.

We joined friends for a Sunday lunch and are already talking about returning around Xmas as a result of the lovely time we enjoyed at the Langton Arms. The staff were attentive but not in our faces and they efficiently dealt with my cheese allergy without fuss. Between us a variety of dishes were eaten and all were good quality. The Langton Arms is in a beautiful setting too, although we only live 16 miles away in Bournemouth we are considering staying overnight at some point. I have already recommended the restaurant and inn to other friends.

Five of us for lunch and from the time we entered, the meet and greet made us very welcome and the friendly staff made us comfortable and relaxed. Drinks order taken quickly and the drinks came quickly too. Really nice professional people who presented us with a menu that was not too long yet gave a good and varied selection of dishes. I may be wrong but I suspect the menu does not change very often although they do offer specials. I suppose it could be described as a typical pub food menu in many respects. Nothing wrong with that and we chose a varied selection and our requests for minor changes were greeted with humour and readily accommodated. The food was well cooked and presented, delicious and the quality of the ingredients was manifest. I can see the attraction of this pub with its idyllic setting, lovely ambiance inside, the friendly and helpful staff and the attraction of award-winning food. On that latter point, I must admit I was expecting a little bit more and I found it a little rustic around the edges to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, lovely food, delicious and I have no complaints. Well done guys, I enjoyed my visit.

Dear TJA950, thank you for your visit and your review, always much appreciated by us all here at The Langton Arms. Great to hear that the service, local food, ambience & warm welcome for your group was all as it should be and you enjoyed a delicious lunch. We are definitely a touch rustic with our food - generous portions, all made from scratch with love and everything sourced locally from our own farm or small Dorset suppliers around us, that community feel is key to our ethos. The menu has lots of favourites that stay with us & you're right, we then interject some specials depending what's in season & good to eat right now. We hope to see you all again. Best wishes, All at The Langton Arms
