Detailed Reviews
I have written quite a few reviews on TA over the years, and its always interesting to read those from others before I put fingers to the keyboard so to speak. Well all I can say is that I am well travelled and have stayed in a wide range of accommodation and The Griffin Inn ticked all the boxes relative to cost versus quality and value for money.
I stayed two nights and the room, as per the bar and restaurant areas, have been tastefully renovated to a good standard. The room had its own temperature control for the heating, a very nice shower room with large walk in shower and heated towel rail. The bed was comfortable, a large TV, well stocked coffee and tea making facility and canned spring water restocked each day. Although you can hear a bit of occasional passing traffic, it was not an issue for me.
The breakfast as were the two evening meals, really enjoyable and well cooked. The prices for the meals were also very reasonable in my opinion. The staff were friendly and the service attentive.
I don’t often give full marks but the two days at the The Griffin were really good and I could not fault the stay. I would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family.

Booked a 2 night stay for my parents visiting the Ruthin area in June 2022.
Our visitors said the room was superb with a great shower and a fabulous breakfast including poached eggs “cooked to perfection”
We all met for a meal in the pub (including kids and a dog). Dogs are welcome on the covered patio eating area. We pre-ordered, as we were a large family group, and it was served quickly. The menu had a good choice for everyone. Kids enjoyed their burgers and sausages. Welsh lamb and sea bass were lovely too.
Easy parking. Friendly staff.

Looking for somewhere to stay over the weekend to visit friends outdoors who live near Oswestry, came upon the Griffin Inn which was reopening on the Friday for food and drink outdoors and self contained overnight stays. Very impressed appears that the whole Inn has been refurbished and to a very high standard. Due to restrictions we were unable to go inside the bar/restaurant but what you could see looked very warm and inviting. The room we had was only small but had all the amenities we needed and was comfy and lovely decorated. Just had to ask for more
tea/coffee/toilet rolls etc, as all the rooms were self contained. Breakfast was taken outside under cover but could have been eaten in the room if requested and it was very good, both chefs were very good and accommodating.
Opened for food and drink outside but we only had a drink as we had eaten earlier in the day and just had a snack later in the room, it was a little cold outside for me but tables all social distanced with some under cover. All staff wearing face coverings and cleaning tables when people left. Owner very friendly and knowledgeable regarding places to visit nearby. All in all had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning when all restrictions are lifted and we will be able to eat and drink inside.

Thank you very much for staying at the Griffin Inn and for your review. It was a pleasure to host you and just unfortunate that Covid restrictions meant that you could not dine inside at the time of your stay, but hopefully next time you visit you will be able to enjoy the full experience of our refurbishment. Thank you.

We are local and have visited this pub on several occasions for drinks but ate here for the first time today. The staff are brilliant, friendly and helpful but I’m afraid the food is mediocre and overpriced. My husband had the pate to start and then we both had the Welsh leg of roast lamb served with basic veg, two tiny roasties and mash. The gravy served with the dinner was amazing but not plentiful so we asked for more. We were given Bisto (or another instant gravy). £10.95 would have been better value for money but I’m afraid the competition in the area far out ways what they have to offer here in the way of food. We would definitely drink here more however, in an area of outstanding beauty that is frequented by dog walkers….they don’t allow dogs inside. Very disappointing.

We stayed 2 nights at the Griffin Inn and the stay was faultless. We had the loft room which was immaculate. It was more like a little apartment than a room. Very clean and everything you could ask for. We had breakfast both mornings and it was extremely good. We also ate both evenings and had drinks. The food was excellent, the beer is top notch and coming from a publican background having done this for over 20 years I feel I know my stuff. The staff were first class and the place itself is lovely. We wanted to stay a third night but we couldn't get a refund on another hotel further south we had booked for Friday. Ironically we decided to give up the £160 that we paid on the other hotel because when we arrived we didn't like the vibe or atmosphere at all. Griffin Inn. 5 stars. Absolutely brilliant. We will be back

The Griffin Inn
LLandebr DCLL15 1UP Wales
Fabulous Hotel recently upgraded to a very high standard. They have friendly and super helpful staff. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff.
The hotel located in the most stunning countryside in North Wales. Our room was very comfortable and supplied with fluffy towels, plenty of toiletries, tea/coffee. Cookies etc. We had dinner 2 nights at the hotel and the food was fresh, well cooked and very tasty. Also, dinner was great value. Breakfast was also lovely and cooked to order. A family member is gluten free and her food choices were accommodated to suit her. Fabulous big beer garden with plenty of space for kids to run around. There is a very spacious bar with a huge selection of beers and a lovely log fire for chillier evenings. Its very welcoming.
Highly recommend The Griffin for dinner if you are local or indeed taking a trip to this stunning part of the world. I think the people of North Wales have kept this jewel a hidden secret! Lovely little quaint town Ruthin is 2 miles away and has charming shops and cafes. We also visited Llangollen which was about 30 mins away from Ruthin. Llangollen is a stunning riverside town with a steam train and canal, lovely shops and restaurants, Very touristy and very busy despite it being Mid October. The Griffin Inn is the perfect base for exploring the area and we will return.

Waited 50 minutes for main course “the only course we ordered” plates are too big and everything in small pots or mini fryer basket making portions look small, steak ordered rare but was more like medium to well done! Two waitresses working same section but didn’t seem to communicate with each other about orders. Given maybe 2 extra Onion rings as a sorry for our long wait.
Prices actually very reasonable apart from steaks that seem over priced for what they are, the rump is hammered to death and doesn’t look like £20 rump steak

My son and I stayed at the Griffin as part of our Offa's Dyke walk. After a long day of hiking the pub was a very welcome sight. We grabbed a drink while our room was prepared and I mightily enjoyed a local ale. Our twin room was perfect - clean, modern, with a great shower and a TV with all the usual apps for those with subscriptions (this made my son very happy). That evening, we ate in the restaurant. I had a fantastic rack of lamb, my son had chicken and a dessert, rounded off with a coffee. Strongly recommended this for walkers who want a little luxury along their way.

This was our second visit as we walked out on our first visit due to waiting so long for our drinks order. We decided to give them a second chance .We ordered food and what arrived was slop. The pate was like mush and so greasey and the bread/toast was inedible as it was hard enough to extract any filling. The waitress was quite dim as a squash is nothing like pure orange juice and charged for her mistake. The rest of meal was not great. Plenty of decent other places to spend your money in . Will not go again

Myself and my fiancee have just returned from a three night stay in the Griffin Inn.
The room was a good size, clean tidy and just as the pictures and writing had described. We arrived Friday evening and having settled in our room went down for a few drinks in the bar which despite it being busy the service was excellent.
The breakfast each morning was delicious, the staff were only too willing to assist in any requests we or any of the other guests who were staying had.
On the Saturday after a day out, we returned and booked a table for an evening meal. The bar and restaurant was very busy but the service was still to a high standard as was the food.
This is a great place to stay with very friendly and helpful staff, a good choice of food and drinks. It is situated around 9 miles from Mold, 1 mile from Ruthin, Betwys y coed is a bit further away but not too far.
