Detailed Reviews
My wife and I wanted an afforsable one night escape to celebrate our joint 44th birthday weekend and after much searching and deliberation due to the fact we wanted a complete spa experience, walking distance from a beach (not an easy request when you are on a tight budget) but after weeks of searching and almost giving up, we stumbled across the Old Hall Hotel which had just one room left at £145 Inc breakfast so we snapped it up and hoped for the best.
We looked the hotel up on Google Earth and was initially worried as it appeared to be smack bang in the middle of a busy road and right next door to a Lidl but it was 10mins walk from a beach and the pictures of the spa looked nice so we set off for a road trip with hopeful dreams yet some apprehension.
The moment we arrived and walked through the courtyard seating area we felt at home and the greeting recieved from reception was equally as warming. We took oir key card and followed the clear instructions, walking upstairs where we first noticed just how well decorated, clean and presentable the hotel looked and as we ventured through the hallway towards our room, we found ourselves being grated by the cleaning staff who all took time to smile and welcome us to the hotel.
We opened the door to our room (no. 30) and was happily surprised to see the standards of decor and cleanliness continue. The room was to such a high standard and we were presented with a superking size bed, walking rain shower, a fridge for personal use which proved very handy for some pre-bday drinks and this may sound a little sad but finally normal coat hangers, not like the ones you can't remove because the hotel doesn't trust you. The hotel had thought of everything, even extra towels for you to use in the spa facility which was our next venture before dinner.
The spa facility which comprised of a welcoming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room mirrored the cleanliness of the entire hotel and despite being a Saturday afternoon was pleasantly quite allowing us both to start to relax and unwind. Their is a gym l, treatment rooms and even a hair salon but with only being able to afford one night, additional luxuries that would have to wait.
The restaurant
We booked a table at 7pm (definatley book as luckily they had a cancellation) and their was a wide variety of food, from pub menu to alacarte. The food was exceptional and the staff could not do enough to make us feel welcomed and unrushed, the table was yours for the night and with a lovely bottle of shiraz, our birthday was by far one of the most relaxing to date. Breakfast was equally as good and the service remained exceptional.
A highly recommended hotel and we cannot wait to go back again

We were looking for a short break away to visit relatives in Norfolk. In view of the covid virus we were trying to find a hotel that provided comfort, food and near to Hemsby but not in the hubbub of Great Yarmouth. This hotel came up trumps with a comfortable and clean room and an outside area to drink and relax in plus a bar area for the evenings. Parking was also available and free but can be busy during the daytime with non-residents. Breakfast was especially good with a wide choice of food, our favourite being the Norfolk breakfast which included local produce. It was more than ample and very tasty.
Our room was of a good size and comfortable with all the necessary requirements. The hotel has a lift to the second floor for disabled people and the staff were some of the most friendly I have come across and very helpful.
We dined in one evening and though it was not cheap the meal was of a high quality and very tasty. The area is well covered with amenities such as shops, pubs, local transport and an ATM.

Very nice hotel. Well situated in Caister high street. Whilst it may not be in a sprawling grounds, it does have a nice courtyard to sit out (in warmer weather of course), rooms are pretty good, decent size, bed very comfortable (although the view from ours was terrible but that’s just the way it is), mini fridge in room is handy and very welcome. Imagine Spa is to left of reception and bar/restaurant to the right so you don’t have to leave the building to visit either which is great! Good idea having towels for Spa within hotel. We went to Yarmouth stadium for dog racing so didn’t have an evening meal at the hotel but breakfast was included and it was very good. Staff lovely, very polite. Bar area also very nice as we had a couple of drinks later in evening. Good atmosphere. Only very small criticism I would have is that we used Spa/pool etc and had a shower before going out and a shower next morning was that could have done with an extra set of toiletries (i.e. shower gel & soap) but apart from that can’t fault it (and I’m sure if we had asked more toiletries would have been provide but a bit late when you’re already in the shower!). Ideally located for Yarmouth Stadium as just under a mile away - about 18 minute walk. We will definitely return!

We had a spacious room. Number 31. It overlooked the main road, a bus stop and a pizza bar. This was a quieter option than overlookng the car park and the bar. The carpet had a stain on it. The only furniture, apart from the bed and bedside table, was a single dining room chair. There was a tv in the corner of the room and beneath that was a small fridge. The bed was rock hard with a dip in the middle and springs that dug into you back. I didn't chance sleeping in it as it was so I asked for another duvet which we put under the bottom sheet. It only made a slight difference and we had the worst weeks sleep. There is no excuse for not having a good mattress in this day and age.
The food in the restaurant and bar was very good, The one day I ordered scrambled egg on toast for breakfast but it was overcooked and it went back. All other breakfasts were very good.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The aircon did not get cool enough on the few hot night we had. The bathroom had a shower gel dispenser and a hand wash dispenser. The hand wash was useless as it had been watered down.
I would not stay there again.
I think the room was overpriced.

Found all the staff very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We usually self cater so were a little wary using an hotel for a few days but found the social distancing easy and good measures were in place. We thought he food menu had a good range of dishes so tempted us to have more than one evening meal. We ate 3 times in the evening and enjoyed them all. The various breakfasts we had were also good. The football was being shown on certain days, but this did not cause us any inconvenience and noise was not a problem, We had room 33 and found it more than adequate for our needs. Very comfortable bed. Some buffering of the TV and intermittent Wi-fi, found using channels no1 up better than from 101. Liked the fact they didn't have doors on the wardrobe, as you don't hear the noise of people closing them. The shower in the wet room was very good. A little problem with water spreading over the wet room floor, but this was reported to management who were going to see what they could do to restrict this better. Caister is a little run down in places, there is a lidl opposite one side and a small co-op on the other side as the hotel is at a junction. I am a light sleeper and didn't find this a problem. It was easy to get to the roads which led us to where we wanted to explore and very easy to park at the hotel.

Our deluxe room was a good size & the room nicely decorated, the fixtures & fittings were acceptable but could be of better quality as could the toilet rolls. The room & bathroom were clean overall but the toilet bowl was not great & looked like it hadn’t seen a dose of bleach for several weeks. The room dividing walls in what must be the original old building we were in are just stud partitioning making it rather noisy if there are folks in the next room. We could easily hear next doors conversations to the point we could probably have joined in. Luckily, the occupants retired at a respectable time but this could easily prove to be problematic, especially with noises you would rather not hear! We also seemed to have some sort of store room on the other side & could hear every time someone entered that.
The Spa & Restaurant facilities are run as separate hotel franchises. The spa facility & gym were well equipped & excellent but are open to outside members & possibly the public so did get crowded & noisy on two days of our stay. This is common practice for most Hotel spas & is a bit of an annoyance for me; Hotel guests pay a premium room rate to stay at a Spa Hotel &, in my view, should be allowed restricted access to the facilities at certain times of the day but I suspect that would be a big ask as it would probably reduce overall revenue & put prices up.
There is an excellent bar area & adjoining restaurant which, although a little chilly, was nicely decorated & very pleasant. Just as well as a local “recky” didn’t find much in the way of half decent alternative eateries that were open & we ended up eating there all 3 nights of our stay. The food was great; fresh, quality produce nicely prepared & cooked with plenty of choice across 3 menus (one a Christmas menu). Not fine dinning but very acceptable with enough choice to suit everyone’s taste & excellent value including the wine prices. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of quality produce, all nicely cooked. The waiting staff was excellent, pleasant & very attentive, we couldn’t fault them.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay & it wouldn’t take much to lift this Hotel & facilities into the next tier level but that would probably put the price up!

My boyfriend and I just wanted a change of four walls for the night. The hotel is extremely unsuspecting, being visible from a back road only. From our bedroom window overlooking the car park, One could envisage what it had once been like before all the bungalows were built and the fields still existed. Our welcome at reception was fantastic, I love the wallpaper on the staircase. Our bedroom was far more superior to that of a premier inn, even though it was incredibly 80s it was disguised with very tasteful decor. The bed was massive and extremely comfortable. My massage was quite possibly one of the best deep tissue treatments I have ever had. The chef has prepared a vegan and vegetarian menu from which we ate, the Lebanese spring rolls have to be tried. It was so nice to have crumble for pudding as well, it’s so easy. If he could make the effort why can’t other restaurants! Our breakfast was as expected, as we were having a vegan cooked breakfast it would’ve been nice to have a little extra on the tomatoes and hashbrowns to make up the spaces on the plate. But I didn’t need to use my own oat milk as they had soya. All in all it’s such a pity it was just one night, but we would stay again definitely. Thank you to the staff for making our stay such a pleasure.

The hotel itself is very nice. BUT the hotel is sadly lacking in good management, especially the restaurant. If only they had an effective restaurant manager, we wouldn't have had to go elsewhere for our meals. You would think that residents would have some sort of priority, especially as the hotel charges around £120 per night. Even to be asked if we would like a table that night during breakfast would have been nice. But the hotel was so keen to book up days in advance to non residents that we were overlooked. Not only that, when you did get a table, the wait for food was over two hours. ( This is not just us, lots of people were complaining and infact leaving.) On the whole, the food was good when it did arrive.
So no, I will NOT be returning again.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with us. We can only sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused regarding your dining experience. We, regrettably, underestimated the volume of customers visiting Branfords restaurant to make the most of the 'Eat Out to Help Out' Government scheme which unfortunately had a negative effect for some of our hotel guests. We have now resolved this issue and would certainly look forward to welcoming you again another time.

My sister and I took my mum for her 80th birthday to this delightful, family run hotel. From the moment we arrived, every member of staff we met were both friendly and accommodating. The room was clean, well laid out and well appointed. The food in the restaurant was extremely tasty and fairly priced. The menu was varied and breakfast substantial! We had booked treatments in the spa, which were also lovely. The manager very kindly allowed us a later check out, so our mum would be comfortable waiting whilst, the last treatment was finished. This was a greatly appreciated. We would certainly go back.

I can't recommend this hotel enough, from the fantastic staff in reception, at the bar and in Brandford's restaurant, they were all extremely helpful and service with a smile. All areas accommodate a wheelchair and booking staff at the hotel were very helpful in meeting our needs. We had 2 rooms for a special birthday weekend and there was even a surprise cake with candle and singing, all taken on themselves by the staff, which was really touching! The restaurant food was excellent for dinner as was the breakfast cooked to order, the decor and ambience was very pleasant and you could eat a la carte or bar menu - which was way more than just 'bar' food! The bar was light and airy, TV's each end so the football wasn't missed and a nice outside area too. I'd like to try a room in the main building next time for a change, our rooms were very clean, spacious, nice fluffy towels and a small fridge which was a bonus. It was a good location, easy to find and parking. We will definitely be returning,
