Called up 3 weeks before to discuss 12 people and 1 dog for food for two 60th birthdays, we were told the bar area is the only place dogs are allowed. That was absolutely fine. They asked us to send an email with the booking and the food we want as we HAVE to pre order for the night. After getting 12 starters, mains and desserts sorted we sent the email and all was booked. Great! We arrived and was told we can't take a dog into the restaurant. We all looked at each other very confused as we knew this info but they proceeded to say the bar area doesn't have enough room for 12 of us. We said we prebooked, and preordered so why isn't there room? We were told there was another reservation in there for 4 people. This meant splitting up the family, some in the bar some in the restaurant, have the food as take away or find somewhere else. We said we would find somewhere else and then we were told that if we do that we have to pay for the food as its "been prepped throughout the day." they did accommodate and pushed back the other table of 4 so we could all sit together. It felt awkward but we were happy to be together in the same room. We then were told that 2 of the 4 steaks preordered weren't available. No one called us in the day to tell us, they told us we'd have to pay if we left... Yet they only have 2 steaks available. What was the point in putting the order in beforehand??? Extremely confused and disappointed. We then relooked at the menu and continued the night. Steaks were replaced by steak and ale pie, overall as 12 of us we would say the food deserves a 3/5, gammon was a little tough and the steak was slightly overdone (no point sending this back as there's no extra steaks available) Waiter then checked the pre orders for desserts. We were then told there's no brownie available for the child, they are a fussy child so we didn't bother ordering them another dessert. We just can't understand how so much was unavailable when they asked us to put the order in 3 days previous to the meal. Why no phone call or email to advise us before we arrive? Desserts came, we ordered the apple and blackberry crumble, the blackberries were red but we added abit of sugar to make it sweeter. Sticky toffee pudding came out for 4 of us, the sticky toffee pudding was very strong with ginger which meant one member of the family couldn't eat it due to skin irritation allergies, disappointing as we didn't expect sticky toffee pudding to have that much ginger but we should have asked I suppose. Custard was lovely. Pavlova was... Different, strawberry ice-cream filled with semi burnt sugared meringues, accompanied by vanilla ice cream on the side. We asked for a discount as we didn't get 2 main meals we wanted and had to choose differently, and of course the dessert that wasn't available. We also had to remind them for the children's ice cream that comes with the meal. I asked the waiter why no phone call was made, he had no idea "how preordering works" so I asked him to ask the other staff or the manager in. I then had to approach him again about this matter to get an answer. We were told they only received our email that was sent on the Thursday, on Friday... However we had an email back Thursday night saying the order had been recieved. Showed this Tracy and she didn't exactly know what to say... Tried to explain to the chef/manager (Tracy) that we didn't want to pay full price as we didn't receive what we actually wanted. All she could say was "I've apologised for that" about no phone call or email beforehand. It was disappointing, we wouldn't return, and we wouldn't recommend if there's more than 2 of you, in fact we wouldn't recommend at all unless you like paying over the odds for meals the same as wetherspoons with an owner or manager that doesnt seem to care about happy customers. Waiters and waitresses tried their best to make the mood lighter but overall it was an awkward atmosphere. Astonished that the story changed from "we didn't get your email until Friday" to "the delivery didn't arrive for the steaks" to "I didn't have time in the afternoon to fetch the steaks"

They always say us Welsh keep a welcome in the hillside, well not here. As we are being told the hospitality industry has suffered during the pandemic but obviously not here. 7 of us arrived Thursday evening at around 6.30pm and asked for a table. Sorry kitten short staffed yet 3 waiting staff wondering around. Asked to book for the next evening offered 7.15 great. Asked to prepare order food ok. Then told kitchen can only do 6.30 booking cancelled never will return

Spotlessly clean rooms and comfy bed was very welcome. Good shower. Friendly helpful staff. Plenty of parking. Decent breakfast. We had evening meal on our arrival which was standard decent pub food. Service was slow / forgetful, but there weren't many staff and one seemed to be new and learning so we didn't mind, as they were doing their best. Tables were nice and clean. We'd stay there again.

Stopped here on the off chance without a reservation as all the restaurants in Betws-y-Coed were booked up. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We were warned that there may be a delay with the food but it was on the table within twenty minutes of ordering and was delicious. My daughter and I decided to both go for pies after a day of getting caught out in the rain; the lamb and leek one was very tasty. Deserts were also very good. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
