Just back after a great week in Portugal. We stayed at the Casa D'Arriba. Great accomodation, breakfast could not have been better. An ideal location to stay at , great balcony in the yellow apartment and ideal spot to travel about . We visited Obidos, Fatima, Sentra.. a must, Peniche etc . Phillipe and his wife were excellent hosts. We would strongly recommend this to anyone who wants a great apartment and a fab breakfast. The views from the balcony are spectacular and the beach one minute walk away. We walked teh beach at 8am every morning and returned to our fab breakfast. There is also a rustic restaurant on the rocks which is good and very cheap but great restaurnats in Peniche. I am now on a diet after the wonderful breakfasts ! Thnaks Philippe

As a travel journalist, I travel extensively and stay in all manner of hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs worldwide. A Casa d'Arriba may be difficult to find initially, but it is without question one of the best guesthouses I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. The view is absolutely magnificent, the facilities clean and modern and the breakfast in a league of its own. The only reason I would come back to Consolacao in Peniche is to stay at this guesthouse. It's completely exceeded my expectations....

Casa d' Arriba is a beautiful house situated in Consolação, 5-6 km outside the city of Peniche. The house consists of three apartments. We stayed in the yellow one, Amarelo, for a week. Have stayed in a lot of different B&B's and guesthouses during our trips around southern Europe, but no place comes close to this - It is absolutely wonderful.

The rooms, the kitchen, the balcony (!), the bathroom, the kind and caring owners and the plentiful, delicious breakfast that is delivered outside your door every morning at 9.00... It's almost too good to be true.

There are a lot good places in the neighborhood if you surf. If you don't, you can always take a walk along the beach to the famous Supertubos to watch pro surfers ride the clashing waves. Rental bikes are also available in Consolação, and we really recommend a bike tour in the beautiful surrounding areas.

This place is, as we said when we arrived, simply far too good to be true and even better than in the pictures!

We just spent a week staying at Casa d Arriba and were really pleased. The location is village based just minutes from the near by town of Peniche. The Bed and Breakfast it self is around an hours drive from Lisbon Airport. There is also ample free parking directly outside. The town of Peniche is average with the normal range of shops and supermarkets.
The accomdation is tasteful and modern, with a kitchenette and bathroom. We had the Yellow suite and this had a lounge and a great bedroom. The views from the balcony are what really sell this property. They look literally right out to sea. It is perfectly possible to self cater here but the nice thing is the breakfast is provided by your hosts and left outside the door for you to collect as and when you want. The breakfast consists of pastries and bread with a side of fruit, also hot drinks and fresh juice.
If you surf as my husband does this area is great with famous breaks like Supertubes just miuntes away. All the local beaches were nice, but I image they get quite crowded as the season progresses. Worth a visit is the local town of Obidos ( great chocolate shop) and the Obidos lakes for a nice picnic.
Overall a great accomodation for a short or longer break, helpful and knowledgable hosts make this an easy booking and experience.

We've traveled extensively around the world, and stayed in some very special small inns, but we both agreed that A Casa D'Arriba was one of our all time top favorites. Our apartment had a balcony which hung out over the waves crashing on rocks below... and watching surfers, fishermen, sunbathers, and sunsets was so captivating, we almost didn't want to leave the room to go exploring the area. The local village is so quiet & charming, and we did day trips to Peniche, Nazare, Obidos, and other tourist sites... always glad to come "home". Oh, and the breakfast delivered to our door every morning was absolutely delicious. Thank you, Filipe... we had a fantastic visit!

There are not many places like this, with a balcony high above the Atlantic ocean. I could watch the waves breaking below for hours, so I'll definitely come back here! There are rocks below, but a very large sandy beach can be reached at 150m from here. The balcony is quite protected from the wind, so it gets very warm.
The owners are very friendly and helpful, and they serve a delicious breakfast. We stayed in the yellow room, a very spacious apartment with the bed on a mezzanine floor.

We stayed two nights in the Estudio Azul at Casa d´Arriba and really enjoyed our stay! Stunning Atlantic sea view, lovely balcony over the ocean and Aurelio´s amazing breakfast created the best possible atmosphere for a cozy weekend! If you want to get away from hectic work life and enjoy some days relaxing time this is the place to go!! Nearby sandy beach for long walks and good seafood at the nearby Peniche city, what else do you need?? We definately will go back again...

We stayed in the Azul apartment which was very charming and tastefully decorated. The view from all windows and the balcony was breathtaking, just complete ocean view like I've never seen it! The only sounds we heard day and night were the waves, which was very relaxing. The place can be darkened well, so sleep was fantastic. Breakfast was great and very generous, we looked forward to it every morning! Filipe and his wife are fantastic hosts, very helpful and friendly, and the whole experience was relaxed and fun! They even had a high chair for our baby boy, who also really enjoyed his stay :)
Very recommended!

I was looking for an apartment in the Peniche area, close to all the main surf spots being a priority, but also nice enough standard to spend 7 days with my girlfriend. This place surpassed all expectations after reading all the excellent reviews.

We stayed in the Amarelho room which Phillippe was very proud to show us around upon arrival. The layout of the room is great. It's a chalet type room, with slanted rooves on the top floor. Everything was top notch. Kitchen and bathroom amenities, cleanliness, airy, bright. The living room had two very comfortable sofas which opened out to a bed. So 6 people could very comfortably stay. There is a tv, dvd player and cd player in the living room. There's a decent dvd collection outside in the hallway, which you could help yourself to. The dvd casing were in Portuguese but the films were actually original versions with the options of various languages.

Now to the best part of the apartment. The Balcony. It faces south, so it is protected from the prevailing northerly winds in july/august. The view is simply amazing, and if you're a surfer you're in for a treat because it looks over Consolocao Right reef break. The balcony has a sun lounger, a dining table and 4 chairs.

It's literally a minute walk from the entrance to the building to the line-up. Only thing about this break is that it's not very consistent, it needs a decent westerly swell for it to work. So in winter it'll be working most days (wind permitting), its in the summer when the swell comes mostly from a NW direction that have to be huge in order to wrap around the Consolocao peninsular.

Another great big plus, and majorly appreciated before heading out to surf is the breakfast which is layed out for you in a large tray in the hallway for you to pick up every morning at 9am. The food on the tray varied slightly every day, and these were had outside in the balcony, naturally, ofcourse where else.

Phillippe and his family are in the apartment below and they were very nice and helpful throughtout our stay. I would definitely stay here again and no doubt recommend this place to anyone. Thank you Phillippe for your kind hospitality. We visit again soon. Johnny & Becky
