Amazing secluded location, walking distance to the beach. Rustic, yet comfortable private cabins tucked in the jungle. Incredibly hospitable hosts. Stefan and his family are wonderful hosts and will make you feel right at home. I was fairly ill with flu-like symptoms (an ailment I'd aquired in Managua) for over half of my stay at Clandestino. I'd sleep most of...

The german couple with their two sickly-sweet kids were one of the most perfect hosts I ever met. They were always available, always very friendly and helpful... The huts a very clean and look like treehouses in a paradisiac jungle. There is a shared kitchen, wich is perfectly appointed and big enough for everybody. There is free coffee all day...

A couple of friends and I got to Hostel Clandestino because of another friend who was already staying there for weeks and told us that we have to see that place because it's just awesome. He was damn right. We stayed there for 10 Days. It's quite hard to describe the flair of this nice quiet hostel which is located...

Stefan and Carina have made this place so welcoming that it feels like a home rather than a hostel. It also attracts really great super chilled people who are so easy to get along with, which was perfect for me as a solo traveller. It is so quiet, away from the party's in San Juan. Also, it's surrounded by the...

Really loved my stay at clandestino, the hostel got lots of open space including yoga platform, everythings very clean and the owners are lovely people. Playa maderas is a great beach for beginner and advanced surfers and also just nice to chillout if you don like surfing.

These were the nicest, sweetest people! I felt so welcomed and so comfortable from the moment I arrived. They have a nice common area with books, games, free water and the cutest, laziest hostel dog named Luna. <3

Great chill vibe here. The owners are super nice and helpful. Hostel is tucked away in the jungle about 5 minutes walk from Playa Maderas. Always seems to be a good bunch of people staying there. Surfing, cheap beers and free coffee.

Clandestino is one of the best hostels I've stayed in. Ever. The mixture of super chilled vibes, free coffee and a beach within walking distance makes it the perfect surfers spot or just the perfect spot to take a break and hang out with awesome people. Tucked away amongst the treetops of the Nicaragua forest the hostel feels remote and...

Although we ended up not even staying at Clandestino, we feel an urge to write a review about the unbelievable kindness and good service we received from Juan throughout the entire correspondence with him. We were planning on staying at Clandestino, but since one of us got extremely sick on the way to San Juan del Sur, we decided to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hostel Clandestino is a Hostel located at the famous surf beach "Playa Maderas" close to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. It was founded by the two friends Juan, from Chile, and Stephan and Corinna, who are from Germany, in the year 2012. Our hostel consists of some beautiful cabins, a refurbished VW-Bus, a kitchen, a lounge and yoga platform, overlooking the green canopy of the Nicaraguan jungle. It's only a ten minute walk to one of the best beach breaks in Nicaragua and about 9 km outside of the bustling beach town San Juan del Sur. Our hostel is perfect for hanging out in a hammock enjoying the amazing view and the untouched Central American nature but also for surfing, walks at the beach, hiking or horseback riding. You won't be bored because here is plenty of stuff to do: We can help you with organizing surf lessons at Playa Maderas, horseback riding etc. You can also watch the wildlife (howler monkeys, tropical birds etc.) hanging out in one of our hammocks or enjoy the beautiful sunsets. We offer our guests simple but comfortable and clean rooms. They all have access to spacey balconies which are equipped with chairs and/or hammocks. The prices include access to our community kitchen, potable water and coffee. We have rooms available for 1-4 guests. ... more   less
