Stayed here for one night. The landlady is a gem. On arrival a pot of tea and Welsh cakes. Room was clean, bed very comfy. Breakfast was amazing _ fruit, cereals, toast, fried breakfast, all excellent.

Signage in the entrance hall, Come as strangers, leave as friends. Boy oh boy that’s what my husband and I certainly experienced. Maxine made us feel valued from the word go after traveling for a good few hours, this was the ice breaker.

We had the Honeysuckle room in the attic. The little things like hot chocolate and biscuits in the beverage basket, a chocolate on each pillow and the added decor took my breath away. Even the view had a lot to offer, with lush green hills in both directions. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had a good nights sleep on both nights.

Breakfast was plentiful and outstanding. We certainly didn’t leave hungry. The kippers are the best I’ve ever had, as I didn’t want a big breakfast on the second morning. Maxine was also kind enough to make up a tuck box for my better half due to him having a very early start. We both opted for the Welsh breakfast on our first morning, more than I could cope with, though it didn’t go to waste.

Thank you Maxine for making us feel very welcome, you added that personal touch. Thank you also to your children for added their mark by adding little things to the B&B, we never knew what would greet us around the corner.

Ideal location being close enough to walk into town and quiet enough to get some sleep after sampling all the real ales! We stayed in the twin room alongside the road and we didn't think it was that noisy with road traffic. Anybody who lives in the city would think the B and B is very quiet. Enough said about breakfast, it's true. We would stay again. Hint, book direct with owner and you don't pay additional fee. Take a torch with you for the late night ramble to the pub.

I had reserved Park Place for a weekend with friends who was joining us from London.
I'm afraid I have had to cancel before our stay.
As we were in the area last weekend I wanted to pop by the guesthouse to see if there was any recommendations for walks from the front door.
There was no one in and the guesthouse showed no signs of life.
I looked around and was immediately dismayed at the signs of neglect.
Overgrown garden. Overflowing ashtrays full of water on the side of the house on rusted sad looking furniture.
I was unable to see much through the 2 downstairs windows for the humungous old fashioned TV 's in the windows. The windows were grubby and cobweb by.
The side windows revealed a dated dining room with a sticky looking carpet and nothing was cleared from what I assumed to be breakfast...dirty serviettes on the floor etc.
The kitchen was piled high with dirty breakfast dishes. ..bean juices frying pans...and the back garden...Well. ..well as awful. It was late afternoon at this time.
The whole place had an air of neglect and looked dirty.
I was surprised as the write ups and reviews read well.
I will point out that I did not go inside...but never less first appearances count for me and my over riding desire was to rum for the hills and book something else!!

We arrived after a very long journey to be met by Maxine. She asked if we would like a tea/coffee but as we were hungry we declined the kind offer on order to seek a meal. We were shown to the attic room which is spacious but in need of some TLC. Not really suitable for those with mobility issues as the stairs were winding, narrow and steep.

There was tea/coffee making facilities and the room had a tiny TV and also an en-suite shower room. There was a double bed and two singles.

Maxine gave us some suggestions for eating out and asked us to place our order for breakfast. We were given a key to the front door and off we went to explore nearby Crickhowell. It didn’t take long to walk there and we had a nice bar supper in ‘The Bear’.

The next morning we had breakfast which was lovely, well cooked and also a selection of fruit and cereal. A definite highlight of the visit.

Unfortunately the house itself appears very ‘tired’ and the decor is dated. There was an abundance of dust on the various surfaces. The front entrance could be off putting for some guests as it is covered in spiders webs.

The bedding was clean, but the shower badly needs new grouting/sealant.

The property is for sale so perhaps that’s the reason there’s no apparent investment in the decor etc.

I wouldn’t return, but thank Maxine for her hospitality.

I was recommended to this place by the Information centre in Crickhowell. They said it would cost £50 which seemed lot but they said it would be worth it. When I got there I was very disappointed to find a notice in the hallway saying that single occupancy was £35. The information folder in my room was filled with additional rules like the £10 charge for lost keys, the charge for this and the charge for that.. the owner was pleasant enough but unapologetic. She said the extra charge was a booking fee but the information centre said they charged £5.. I got the feeling that whoever was going to lose money, it was not her, and so it proved. I won't go back.
The B&B itself is one of those chintzy places with little china lighthouses etc dotted about, nice if you like that sort of thing. Breakfast was OK, but overcooked. The information folder said breakfast was from 7 to 8.30 but they said they couldn't let anyone in the dining room before 8am because of their insurance! This they backed up by locking the door until the appointed hour.. If you do decide to book here, at least do it direct and not via the information centre! £50 for an airless attic room with traffic noise from the busy A road outside, no headroom and no proper window was just a rip-off

This is a pretty little house with pretty little rooms, and I am sure the proprietors are lovely too, but it was not what I was expecting. I am afraid the pictures on the marketing did not appear to me to properly represent the accommodation and my room was much smaller than the pictures indicated - too small. I notice many of the reviews are positive, so it clearly suits some people, but I was so shocked and disappointed that I checked out and found another, lovely, guesthouse. But when I did so the proprietor was very good about it, and I am sure they do a good trade, so good luck to them.

Top tips, though:
1 - that offer of a cup of tea on arrival is lovely and much needed, but if your guest has just driven 5 hours to get to you that cup of tea would be more welcome in their room so that they can settle.
2 - If you market yourselves as having free wi-fi throughout, don't tell you guests as they arrive that the thick walls might mean they can't get wi-fi in their room. There is a reason for booking into a place with wi-fi.
3 - If you advertise great views make sure the windows are big enough to see the views properly without bending or stretching.
4 - peeling wallpaper in the reception room is not a good look.

I booked this place only going on reviews from what I previously read for a surprise weekend getaway for my partners birthday and I’m glad I did. I can’t tell you how lovely this place was and how accommodating the host is.
I asked if possible banners could be put in the room for a surprise for my partners birthday and not only were there banners but also a bottle of wine and party poppers for us which was a lovely touch.
The choice of breakfasts were delicious and as long as you let them know the evening before what time you would like breakfast, it was ready for you the following morning at the requested time.
The town is only a short 10 minute walk away with a few pubs to stop in on the way. The guesthouse is also surrounded by beautiful walks.
This is definitely a place I would like to return too.

Our party of 3 arrived by train just before lunch and Maxine agreed to keep our luggage until check in time which was 4 pm. We returned at 3:30 and no one was in. The only thing we could do was sit in the neglected front garden and wait. Maxine opened the door at just after 4pm. Thank goodness it wasn't raining. We were shown into the lounge which smelled damp and musty like the windows hadn't been opened in years. We were shown to our attic room. Our initial reaction was this is fine until we tried the bed. An old thin mattress on slates, completely uncomfortable! On closer inspection the ceiling corners had spider webs and there was so many dusty Knicks knacks about it looked like the room hadn't been properly cleaned in ages. There is a for sale sign on the property perhaps that is the reason for the neglect. This could be a very pleasant B & B. It just needs some TLC! We would not recommend this place.
