Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Goat is a traditional and highly characterful country inn, and as such the polar opposite to chain hotels. This does mean that it features steep stairs, low beams, and some surprising gradients in bedroom floors — highly charming, but of course not suited to guests with mobility issues. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is good. It is deservedly popular with visitors and volunteers on the heritage railway, so if that is your reason for visiting Llanfair you will need to book well in advance.

Stayed one night and ate in the bar. The room was very comfortable. Newly furnished and decorated, well equipped and with its own outside entrance, complete with small seating area. Dinner was good pub food and excellent value. Finished of with local cheeses. The super friendly owners followed up with a great cooked breakfast in the morning. Good country walks all around the town too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Most generous ploughman’s- wedge the door open with each of the three cheeses. Lovely fresh crusty bread with the slow cooked lamb stew and rich rarebit with tasty chutney. Beachcomber beers to wash down. Very reasonable prices and friendly owners.

Only had an evening meal but it was excellent. Good value for money too. Didn't wait long but advisable to book as very popular. Good selection of choice for all 3 courses & food very fresh & tasty. Cosy area whilst you wait too.

On arrival at the Goat Hotel I received a warm welcome from Becky who showed me to my room, it was surprisingly spacious for such an old building. The Tea & Coffee was hidden away in a traditional drinks cabinet, which I found enjoyably quirky, the bathroom included a large bath and everything was clean and well presented. There was also a second door that led straight out to a set of outdoor stairs and the car park, without having to walk through the bar. Not that the bar was a problem at all, something very noticeable about Llanfair is how friendly all the locals are, I found this when visiting the other pubs in Llanfair too. The breakfast cooked by the proprietor Richard, was excellent with a good selection on offer. I also met a couple of friends for dinner in the Goat Hotel on my first night, the menu was a great selection of pub ‘favourites’ and tasted great. The Goat Hotel was great value, both for the room and evening meal. It is in a quiet location in the village and within walking distance of the Llanfair & Welshpool Railway who run narrow gauge steam trains into Welshpool. I have no hesitation in recommending The Goat Hotel, just watch your head at times, as an old building (built 1704) it will occasionally try to catch you out. I know I’ll be back!

Just had a meal at the Goat Hotel and it was a great experience and a lovely meal. The 2 ladies serving were polite and very pleasent. The meal was the fastest delivery I have ever had anywhere outside of McDonalds. The food (Fish and Chips for me and Steak and Ale Pie for my partner) was tasty and cooked well. The deserts were very very tasty! Overall would recommend.

We had a one night stay at The Goat and have to say how pleased we were with everything. Check in was quick and easy. Rooms are very spacious and just as you would expect from a property of the age. Tea and coffee available in the room and a lovely big bath/shower. The evening meal was superb - Can see why people travel just for the food. Very reasonable price and a good range of drinks too. Breakfast is served at a time chosen by yourself so again perfect and no rush to be ready. Breakfast quality was spot on, really set us up for the day. If we are ever in the area again we would not hesitate to stay again. Well worth the 5 star rating.

I stayed at the Goat Hotel at Llanfair Caereinion with my family, 5 adults and 4 children. It was an excellent choice, all three rooms were clean, comfortable and en suite. The staff was friendly and helpful; we had an excellent evening meal in the restaurant catering for vegetarians and gluten-free with ease. A wide choice for breakfast was on offer. There was ample parking and the steam train station is in walking distance. A little gem and I will definitely stay again on my next visit.

We (my husband and I) have been regulars in the restaurant at this lovely Inn for the last 17 years. We have a caravan close to the village. We came down to check on the caravan before the season opens and due to the weather forecasts we decided to make a night of it. Richard, the owner of the Goat told us they have been able to"make over" the rooms and lounge during lockdown. They have made a spectacular job of it. We dined in the restaurant , the meal being of the high standard we have always enjoyed. Our room was No. 3 and is accessed by the stairs between the restaurant and the bar/lounge. The room is very large and welcoming. We had a restful night and a full cooked breakfast in the morning before seting off for home. Thanks again Richard for your hospitality.
