This is a really great place to stay in Cornwall. It’s central for travelling around Cornwall and although it’s on a main road once in the bedroom it wasn’t too noisy. There are lots of places to visit within 30-45 mins from the hotel e.g. St Austell, the Eden Project, Falmouth, Perranporth to name just a few.
As a disabled person finding suitable accommodation with wide doors, wheelchair access and roll in shower or wet room, in this day and age should be easy, but in reality it isn’t. The County on the other hand was exactly what I needed, the down side is there is only one disabled room. The large double bed was extremely comfortable. There wasn’t an iron or ironing board in the room but you can ask at reception for one.
The staff were really helpful and friendly. Obviously because of COVID there were some changes to their usual service provided e.g. no room cleaning, bed making or towel changing. The wearing of masks around the accommodation, when not in the restaurant, and use of hand Sanitiser is expected throughout the property. There was provision to change towels and replenish tea and coffee making items via reception.
The food served in the restaurant was a reduced menu, again in light of COVID, but there was still a good choice. All the food was well cooked and presented. The Carvery, which was plated for you was the best carvery I have ever eaten, and his wagon every night. The breakfast menu choice was good too. There is an outside terrace just off the main restaurant where you can eat or just have a drink which unusually isn’t for smokers and the view overlooking the rolling hills is very picturesque and relaxing. The only down side is the terrace below is for smokers and their smoke can drift up, which can be off putting, especially if you’re eating out there.
All the staff were pleasant, helpful and friendly but special thanks go to Sue on reception who was extremely helpful and Dan and Kirsty who were in attendance in the restaurant
We enjoyed our stay at the County and will definitely stay again the next time we go to Cornwall. I just hope Room 2 is available.

We stayed for 4 nights here on a Monday to Friday break. Stayed in a superior room which was at the back of the hotel and had an amazing view! Room was spotless and of a very generous size For a hotel room - the only small thing was the shower cubicle could do with a bit of tidy up and the fixtures in the bathroom being wobbly but apart from that the actual bedroom was absolutely lovely! The staff were all very friendly and made us feel very welcome and they were very good with sticking to the Covid restrictions. Please ignore people’s reviews about the food not being up to standard as we thought the breakfast and dinner were both absolutely fine and of a good quality for the price. You are only within 30 minutes drive of some fantastic beaches so it’s a good central base! We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Cornwall And we would definitely go back here... loved it!

We stayed here earlier this month and had a lovely time! The room was lovely and clean with a great view. It’s a great central location so most places are within a 30 min drive. Because of covid rooms were only cleaned when you wanted them to be so instead of a do not disturb sign you’d just put out a please clean me sign before 11 which I much preferred!
Most importantly though the staff were amazing! Everyone we spoke with were just so lovely but especially Makayla ! She was the first person to greet us when we arrived after a long journey from Newcastle and I was so tired and grumpy but she instantly had me smiling and talking away. She did everything she could to help us and she was just so nice I felt like I’d made a new friend. Thank you for making our stay so great!

We stayed for five nights after driving from Nottingham so that we could meet up with some friends Stayed in a superior room over looking the country side lovely view. The room was a generous size but very basic, the bathroom could do with sorting out loo roll fitting falling off the wall, toilet seat moving on the basin. The shower around the base had mould inside and out and the base drain cover was adrift if you stepped on it it slid away. Towels were not changed until the 4th day . The outside of the premises could do with a good paint and repairs the garden was a very good feature and well laid out. The breakfast was usually very good it depended who was the chef that day. The staff were very friendly except that under the current situation there were two waiters that were more friendly with certain people that were drinking we did approach one of the waiters about this his reply was that she was a regular customer??? was not impressed. Drinks seemed to be very expensive on some off them, also some of the people behind the bar needed some training as they were not sure ??. It could be a lovely place to stay which is very central with a little more care from the manager and the premises .

We booked this hotel for just about £800 for 6 nights (no breakfast incl.)from booking.com. In their confirmation email they asked for any request we might have. We emailed that I am allergic to dust and requested to have anti allergic bedding, assuming that the room itself would be cleaned and dusted as it should be.

When we checked in on Wednesday 16th at 3pm. I was told that I have anti allergic pillows but it was all...
Bottom sheet on the mattress was so small that the edge of it ended under the pillows. Carpet was full of crumbs, windowsill, blinds(chip plastic ones and broken! at 5am is so bright in the room that it’s impossible to sleep), skirtings, picture frame, inside drawers - everything was very dusty. There is no telephone in the room to communicate with the reception so I went down to explain the situation. Apparently housekeeping stops at 2pm. but the receptionist offered to wipe and vacuum clean the room. Thank you!

We really were looking forward to this holiday as it’s our 1st time in Cornwall and I decided not to get stressed or negative and try to keep up with our bad choice of choosing this place for our stay.
BUT
today Saturday is our 4th day here and in the morning I kindly asked the receptionist to pass to a made the note to vacuum clean and dust our room and to sort the duvet into the duvet cover that has partially pulled out. But nothing really has been done! Really? What king hotel is this?

Two receptionist (who I think should be mades as well) just looked at each other with a no comment on this matter.

We get up in the morning and drive to different places to explore Cornwall as much as possible and even being very tired and longing rest on bed in the evenings we dread coming back to this horrible place.
We had cream tea and dinner at their pub here on our 1st day but if you are not starving then give it a miss. Though the staff in the pub are very nice (all of them)
Also night shift receptionists were extremely nice and accommodating.

So for those who wants to stay here in future - possibly it is ok for only one night BUT for more days or if you are a person who likes at least a minimum service in hotels - this place is not for you.

Unfortunately our booking is non refundable so we are stuck here till Tuesday :((

We took my in-laws out for dinner when they visited; we’ve been to the County Arms countless times and really liked the atmosphere.

Booking was straight forward and when we arrived someone was there immediately to seat us. NHS app easy to scan, hand sanitizer available and we were shown to a plenty big enough table around the corner. The families next to us were definitely not 2m away but overall this was fine.

We ordered our food promptly; the server was helpful and friendly. We ordered two fish and chips, a lasagne and a burger. All the food and drinks were lovely - the fish and chips in particular was a really generous portion.

However, whilst I was still eating, the same server came and cleared my husband & in laws’ empty plates. I thought when he actually reached the table, he’d realise his mistake and that I was still eating, but he didn’t. He continued to clear the plates around me and even at one point reached over my plate to clear another.

When we had all finished, it took forever for someone to notice and come and ask if there was anything else we wanted to order or if we wanted the bill. We eventually collared a manager, who said he would send someone to take our order….rather than just taking it himself. He was keen to rush off but I asked to speak to him about the service we’d had. He looked less than interested and said ‘I will feed that back to the server when I have time’. He then sent the same server to our table to take our drinks order. He made some cringe comment about ‘not wanting the sticky toffee pudding in our lives’.

Our drinks sat on the end of the bar for some time; the manager we had spoken to went to serve them but looked at the table number and decided he couldn’t be bothered.

Such a shame as we’re local and have often eaten/drunk here and we really like to support our local pubs/restaurants, particularly at the moment. We are very understanding that pub staff may be hard to find and therefore those in jobs may not have the experience. However, if we’re paying for food and drinks, I do expect, at the very least, the opportunity to finish my food in peace and not have someone lean over me whilst I’m eating. Think from now on we’ll give the County Arms a miss until their staff are fully trained.

We visited for food and a catch up with friends. Food was fine and we took advantage of the eat out to help out scheme so can’t complain re: affordability. We sat outside and the beer garden area is lovely with lots of green views and very easy to forget that this pub is situated on the busy, main Truro road.
The staff do have a lot of steps to walk up and down with food and drinks orders and they are doing a great job.
In terms of Covid measures I personally think the standard could improve - staff don’t wear face masks compared to other establishments I have visited. The cutlery whilst clean, I assume, were carried by staff and given to us by hand. Other places put their cutlery in packs to reduce cross contamination and handling. I could not see any evidence of the benches being sprayed or cleaned - although I appreciate that I simply may have not seen it and it’s quite impossible to disinfect wood. I was not particularly impressed with my cutlery for my dessert being given by hand unwrapped and placed on the table.
I think I would return (under the current climate) for drinks but not for food, more work could be done to show the following of hygiene Covid guidelines in my personal opinion.
I can’t fault the staff, they were friendly and helpful and service overall was okay, maybe I was expecting too high a standard.

Stayed at County Arms for a week to have a change of scenery during Covid - lovely hotel and all of the staff where friendly and helpful. Would like to mention the young lady with the multi coloured hair as when she was on breakfast duty she was very efficient. Limited breakfast menu however it wasn’t a problem to vary or ask for changes to it. Evening menu was also limited Due to Covid but what we had was lovely well cooked food. Would also recommend the carvery. Felt very safe staying there and would highly recommend. Location was good as only a short walk to town centre and could travel to lots of lovely Cornish towns within 15 to 30 mins.

We are local to Truro and have used the county Arms over the years on numerous occasions .Booked up for a birthday celebration there was 4 of us at 7:30pm. We hadn’t been since before the start of Covid. When we arrived we were seated immediately and menus given. Our orders were taken and we were told that it was a 30 minute wait for food. Food arrived I personally didn’t have a starter because I wanted a dessert and I would struggle to eat a starter as well. Starter arrived it was eaten and plates cleared, after 30 minutes the main meal arrived we ate that then shortly after the plates were cleared and at that point no offer was made for us to order dessert. We were chatting away and after a while we decided we wanted to order dessert during this time I had noticed 3 members of staff behind the bar chatting away. My husband eventually got the attention of the waiter who came over from behind the bar. We asked if we could order dessert to which we were told that the kitchen closes at 9:30pm I looked at the time and it was 9:26pm.We said we were waiting for someone to come and ask if we wanted dessert to which the waiter replied that he was busy. He did apologise but it wasn’t good enough. I can’t believe that on a Saturday night they would close the kitchen at 9:30pm. We were all very disappointed. After the lockdowns I would have thought they would want every penny customers want to give them.

I stayed here as a base to travel around Cornwall and could not have been happier. Great location and off the main road so no need to travel through the city to get in and out of places. 10 minutes walk from the train station and near to a supermarket as well.

We stayed in a superior garden view room and I didn't really realise they still made hotel rooms like this - and I mean that in a good way. This room was extremely spacious with everything that you'd need for a comfortable stay. I am used to staying in tiny hub hotel style rooms with hardly any room to manoeuvre and whilst those rooms are absolutely fine for a night or two when you're staying in a big city they aren't as great when you want to spend a few hours each day having a rest and relaxing before your next adventure.

We ate at the pub attached to the hotel a couple of times as we had £40 of credit as an offer when we booked and it was perfectly fine. Nothing to write home about really but I wouldn't have been upset to eat here even if I wasn't a patron of the hotel. I'd absolutely stay here again if I was in Cornwall.

Truro is in the middle of the peninsula of Cornwall so the nearest coast is probably 7 to 10 miles away. However the County Arms is a 20 to 30 minute walk to the centre of Truro. The best option and the one we employed when going into Truro is the local bus, we found it to be both frequent and on time and the bus stop is basically just outside the hotel.
