ABUNDANT MARINE LIFE BUT POOR RESORT MANAGEMENT Resort management and reception are extremely poor and unorganised. Service level is mediocre similar to 3 star hotel. Unfortunately, the management just wants your money. Once you’ve paid, they kick you out of room before your check-out time to make room for new arrivals. I was kicked out of Over Water Villa at 9AM when I had asked for later seaplane after check-out time 12PM so I could enjoy the room. They told me they could not accommodate the night before and that they had booked me a 10AM seaplane. My departure flight out of Male was past 9PM. I told the reception I needed some more time and wanted to enjoy the Villa in the morning until 9:20AM. I had to plea for this by the way. The reception unwillingly agreed. In the morning, housekeeping comes at 9AM and says “Reception told me you would check out at 9AM. They told me I need to clean the room for next guests who have now arrived at the island.” Did the management forget that I also paid for the room? I felt sad for having paid so much money for a 7 night stay to be treated poorly. I was quickly forced to leave the air conditioned room and sat sweating 2 hours at reception waiting for seaplane to arrive. Pros Abundant marine life Scuba instructor Ethan was very helpful. Dive centre team and crew were friendly. Nuas at Asian Wok provided quality 5 star hotel service. Starry skies and beautiful sunsets Maldivian culture night and live music were entertaining. In general, bar staff were quite attentive. Cons In general, the resort management was very poor. There is big difference in service between Beach Villa buffet vs. Over Water Villa buffet. The staff at the Over Water Villa buffet were way more attentive than the staff at the Beach Villa buffet. At the Beach Villa buffet, they force you to sit in your assigned table during meal times even if all the other tables are empty! I had to ask the management and reception multiple times to be moved to a better table location before this was actioned. I felt constantly the level of service was not there. Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa has potential to be a very enjoyable vacation place. But for now with the current management team, I’d highly recommend you to try another resort. I hope the senior leadership team and stakeholders will care about guest experience instead of just revenue and how to churn out as much money as possible by booking stays too closely without adequate time in between - causing guests to be kicked out of the rooms they paid for.

Hotel's Favourite
Arrived by Emirates on time at 09.30,sea plane transfer very good at 12.00 ,but traffic jam to take off ! although still in time for lunch.Welcome excellent. Jacuzzi Room first class with Shazy excellent ,great attention to detail and anticipated our needs. Restaurant food has definitely improved from very good to excellent (well done to Chef and the team on their skills/creativity) to cater for such a wide range of tastes(not easy). Meezad on top form ,again attention to detail, high awareness, leadership, with humour/care and delivery of customer service to the highest level. Grounds consistently clean, well kept, free of mosquitos(despite the rain) and safe removal of coconuts-also pleased to see guests picking up debris from the beach from passing ships as well as the team-everybody contributing to assist the environment.. Pleased to see slow reef recovery ongoing -highlights include very large trevally followed by white tip sharks, some very large groupers, and the usual array of turtles, reef sharks, squid, napoleon fish... always something new to see.. Bar staff all friendly and attentative and enjoyed the Vilamendhoo inspired gins. Reception team very helpful thoughout including help with IMUGA-many thanks. The improvements each year are clear-extension to restaurants outside have worked with a good ambiance for customers, seeded growth of new corals is working faster than predicted, the extra food theme nights a success,-new towels is also a good indicator of care/professionalism,environmental concerns given high priority. Mr Zahir continues to deliver high standards of management ,such care, enthusiasm, action orientated with high creative energy and bubbling with new ideas-which spreads through his teams. All team members throughout deliver excellence including the leaf clearing team. Missing the Vilamendhoo experience already-longer stay next time already on the agenda.

Very Beautiful resort. Stylish beach villas with the sence of your own private piece of beach. Reef located just 15 m of the beach. We saw 1 turtle several blacktips and Eagle rays. Baby sharks playing inreef. The reef itself was ok. Nice walls and excellent for free dive practices easy 25 m dept just a few m if the reef. Calm safe waters. Dining was great. We enjoyed the all inclusive plus package. Though be aware not everything is all inclusive.

After booking.com and centara grand cancelled my reservation without notice, or explanation, I booked a week at Vilamendhoo at short notice, it was a fantastic week and fulfilled the aim which was a chilled week away and to see and swim with whale sharks.

We have been home from this amazing island for almost 2 weeks now, it seems like a dream, a perfect dream. We opted for AI even though we are not big drinkers, the drinks in the mini bar was a nice variety, beer, wine (red, white and rosè), iced coffee, iced lemon tea and soft drinks , I would have liked more sugar free drinks but that's a personal choice and didn't spoil the holiday, the snaks in room were good too, crisps, nuts and a 2 bounty bars, yummy, it is replenised on a daily basis along with the cleaning of your room. The whole island is kept clean and tidy by hard working gardeners who sweep fallen leaves every morning, we stayed in a joined beach villa on the south side, room 235 it was brilliant, our own sun beds, the crystal clear water a few steps from the veranda just heaven, the snorkeling is fantastic a few steps from the beach, there are entry and exit points to the the reef so the recovering coral and you doesn't get damaged or hurt getting to the reefs edge. Food was well cooked and very tasty at every meal and the designated table and server a great idea as you get chance to learn about them as people and their lives, the whole place is about your relaxation and enjoyment so just soak it up, the bar, the hot rock restaurant, the groundsmen and the room cleaners are exceptionly hard working and friendly people who just want to make your time with them a holiday to remember, this was our 3rd visit and this time was as good as the 1st. We'll done to everyone who made it so special.

This was our 3rd travel to Maldives, so we can easily compare and recommend Vilamendhoo! The island is stunning, not too big, not too small - perfect! The beach, the Infinity pool, the restaurants, the pier, the water villas, everything is picture perfect! The snorkelling is amazing and very easy as the reef is near the beach: sharks, sting rays, eagle rays, eals, turtles... We were able to swim with the turtles with some help from TripAdvisor forum: search on exit 10, around 4:30 pm. We stayed on a garden room and it was amazing: refurbished, spacious, comfortable, good air con, near social areas but quiet. The beach area for garden rooms is amazing, of course you share it with other guests but there are beach chairs and shadow for everyone. The Maldives suffer with erosion but on this island you dont really see many sandbags. There is a small concrete wall on the edge of the island, in front of some beach villas. The food is great, could improve the fruit section with more variety. We went full board and water is included on your meals and also at the bars, just ask. Everybody was extremely nice and we can't wait to go back! Highly recommend :)

My wife and I just came back from amazing few days in Vilamendhoo Island Resort. We generally loved the experience and would recommend it to anybody who wants a lovely beach setting and amazing snorkel opportunities. House Reef: the house reef is really the standout here, small sharks, turtles, octopus, parrotfish, surgeonfish, anemone fish, titan triggerfish, mooray eels, dogtooth tuna; etc… a wide arrange of colourful fishes that you can encounter everyday by just snorkelling north or south of the island. From my experience the north side is better generally but the south side is more calm in days with wind and i saw at least one mooray eel everytime i snorkelled there. 5/5 Excursions: we did the Vila Snorkelling adventure, swam with 2 turtles, 2 manta rays and 2 whale sharks. My wife is pregnant and was very well taken care by the crew. Everything felt safe and the staff was really nice and friendly. I also did a night snorkelling in the house reef with Euro Divers where we saw at least 4 huge mooray eels hunting outside their house and literally catching fish and a lot of lionfish of different species. I really enjoyed it and the staff, although quieter, was a good spotter and a nice person. We would have loved to do the nurse shark experience but in the days we were there they only ran it once and it was the same day that we did the other tour so it would have been impossible for us to do both. Overall what we did was a clear 5/5 but we would have loved to have the opportunity to do the other tour too. Room: We stayed in an overwater villa, we had everything we needed, space was comfortable and it was cleaned twice a day. We have stayed in water villas in other countries with more luxury, but to be honest the ones at Vilamendhoo are really well maintained, don’t feel outdated and if you like snorkelling you will just be sleeping when you are not snorkelling. We didn’t do it but apparently you can order the food to the room if you are having a lazy day. You could definitively get more luxury in the south ari atoll in other resorts but for us that’s not a must and we enjoyed the room as it is. 5/5 Food: we had our food in Ahima Restaurant, they have themed nights and food that catered to different taste, western, indian, chinese, etc… there is a lot of effort and love put into designing the menu and make sure it’s varied and creative, which is amazing. However, the taste is just not there; the food itself is just ok. I can imagine this can be a problem for somebody who rate food higher in their priorities in what they want from a resort. For us, we just enjoyed all the other amazing things that Vilamendhoo has to offer. 3/5 Others: we used Vila Memories for our Babymoon photoshoot, the photographer was very nice and efficient and the process is very fast, the pictures were beautiful and the select process very easy. Only thing i would say it seems overpriced once you go beyond the basic 7 pictures package. My wife used the spa for a mother to be massage and was very happy with the experience and the spa. 5/5 Staff: all very attentive at the restaurants and reception. Huge thanks to Candice from reception for being so lovely and friendly with us during our stay. 5/5 Personally, we would recommend Vilamendhoo Island Resort to anybody who is keen in great snorkel experiences and a beautiful beach setting who won’t be bothered by the just ok food.

We Love the workers, the Bungalow over the water, the water and specially the Nature. Vilamendhoo managed to perfectly fill the role of both being a private and intimate place, while also feeling just large and systemized enough that we felt that everything was constantly under control and well managed. For safety-maniacs like ourselves, that’s a plus, but we can also see why someone would find it less charming. Vilamendhoo’s house reef is seriously incredible. It covers a large amount of the island, which means that there is always something new to see each day, like a choose-your-own-snorkeling-adventure. We spotted lots of different marine life, and the coral reef by itself is also very alive and beautiful. Despite catching wind that the island was about 80% booked when we were staying there, it never felt crowded in any way. There were always plenty of seats, lounge-chairs, sun-chairs and whatnot available at every bar, lounge, and pool, as well as attentive staff who never seemed too busy or distracted. Everything was just nice and calm. Bring more sunscreen than you think you’ll need (it is, naturally, expensive to purchase on the island - though very nice to have the option, just in case).

We've just spent two weeks in Paradise. Everything was amazing from the sealife on the reefs to our gorgeous water villa. The food and drink was excellent and we really appreciated being All Inclusive Plus. Such fun to find our mini bar stocked with Bounty chocolate bars - they are one of my favourites. But what made the holiday so special was the wonderful service and friendliness from all the staff. Thank you to everyone there who works so hard and such long hours to keep us tourists happy.
