Went today to try out this place as it’s local and heard good reviews about the food. Went for lunch here and after waiting a few minutes approached by a lady that worked there with the worst customer service I have ever come across such an attitude to me while I had a baby in my arms. There was another staff member behind the bar on her own who seemed to be under a lot of pressure having to do everyone else’s job.. was asked if I had a reservation and told them I had not (the place was very quiet) was then asked do I want a table or not in such a cheeky manner and told could I not see that the other staff member was very busy and couldn’t serve me. I ended up walking out and going to another restaurant we’re I was treated with respect. My family make many large group bookings in this place each year and I will make sure that isn’t the case anymore. Doesn’t hurt to be kind this lady should be ashamed off her poor excuse off customer service. Beyond annoyed with the Mourne country never again. AVOID

Response from Donna Quail, General Manager at Mourne Country Hotel
Responded 19 Aug 2020
In response to your review. We are in the middle of a pandemic. The Hospitality Industry have a series of guidelines and restrictions in place to be followed rigorously to protect both our staff and our customers. There was a very clear sign at the entrance of our Lounge Bar asking customers to wait to be seated. You choose to IGNORE this sign and proceeded to seat yourself at a table that had been just being vacated by another party.. the table had not been left for the recommended interval between customers therefore putting yourself and your baby at risk and causing undue stress for our staff. When you were asked to leave the table and wait at the entrance so as we could check which tables were free for you, you displayed your extreme annoyance even though this was for your own safety. You then proceeded to advise the staff member in a tone that could only be described as "patronizing" that if it was too much bother not too worry , the staff member responded with "" madam would you like a table ". At this point there was further display of your annoyance at having to observe our industry guidelines by walking out when you were trying to be accommodated. As you say it doesn't hurt to be kind, but where is your kindness to the staff of the Hospitality Industry who are putting their health at risk every day to provide a service to the general public and do their very best to keep their colleagues and customers safe in a very uncertain environment. People who choose to ignore the procedures that are in place do nothing to help contain the spread of this virus. Respect is earned.

Really nice and welcoming. Comfortable and warm room..I could not fault this hotel. Bar is nice.. Staff are really helpful and accommodating from check- in to bar and restaurant service. Loads of car park space, and city centre a short drive.

We stayed for 1 night at mourne country hotel. As we were been collected by coach at 05:00 am the following morning we asked would it be possible to get a coffee before we departed for the Ferry...no problem we were told. Next morning at 04:30 when we came down to Reception the night porter brought us into dining room where there was a lovely selection of cereals, toast, croissants, & cake...which was more than we expected. Also had a lovely meal in bar night before. We were also able to park our car there for 3 nights. Very friendly staff. Would recommend Mourne country hotel

I had the pleasure of staying at the Mourne Country Hotel whilst working nearby. Only stayed 1 night. Reception was friendly and helpful, and sorted us quickly. The evening meal was OK, the burger I had was tasty, service was good, if a little slow. My room was spacious, a big double bed with on suite. It was comfortable, and looked like it had recently been refurbished. Breakfast was nice, full cooked breakfast, with continental options. Again the service was good. The only negatives I can think of is firstly, my room was unbelievably dark. There's a light near the door, a spotlight at either side of the bed and a desk lamp. The middle of the room was almost completely unlit, and made packing and unpacking my bags a little bit more difficult. The other negative is the noise from the nearby road. I had to check that the window wasn't open, because it was that loud. It was worse when HGV's and boy racers went past. Other than those little niggles, I though the hotel was fine, and would stay there again if I'm ever working in that area again.
