After a trip to Glasgow at the weekend, my husband and I needed somewhere to stay to break our journey back to North Lincs. Having had a quick look around we chanced on the Woolly Sheep Inn at Skipton and made a booking. We had a little trouble finding the car park involving a trip around Skipton by way of some very narrow roads and bridges. I had booked a double room with breakfast. We were greeted politely by the bar staff who informed us they had upgraded our room. We were in the annexe, just behind the outside decking area. The room was really lovely - spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed. The bathroom looked newly installed and was perfect. We were given a flask of fresh milk for our stay for tea/coffee, which was a nice touch. The room was well designed and we were unable to hear any noise from the decking area, which was quite busy late on the Sunday afternoon. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, I chose the Sunday roast, and my husband chose the local steak pie, and we were both happy with our meals. There was quite an extensive menu and specials board. We were served politely by cheerful staff. My husband partook of some of the local ales before retiring to a great night’s sleep in our huge bed. Breakfast offered a good choice of hot food including the usual full English alongside veggie alternatives, omelettes, eggs benedict etc in addition to cereals, toast, yogurt, fruit etc. We feel we have stumbled across a real gem of a place, and plan to return.

this place is a little gem. party of 2 couples, 2 rooms allocated.
extremely friendly and accommodating staff, nothing too much trouble. room fairly small but very comfortable. shower a great size and good water pressure (given we were on the top floor in an ancient building) fan in room which was brilliant, little extras water, biscuits all a nice touch.

had dinner at the night in the restaurant. food was hot and tasty, 2 had belly pork wich was lovely, one had pie which was lovely, the other had fish and chips which were average.

the breakfast was magnificent, best breakfast we have had in a long time (we travel extensively and we know a good breakfast). cereal, fruit, toast, yogurt and juices all lovely but the star of the show was the cooked full english, absolutely brilliant.

thankyou woolly sheep, you are doing a grand job, keep it up, we will see you again next time we travel to that area (which is lovely too)

We have recently visited The Wooly Sheep on a weekend away in Skipton, it was very clean and tidy and we were quickly accommodated - We found the food to be of excellent variety and quality using local ingredients. The baked Cod was particularly tasty!

Service was prompt, courteous and everything well done.

We will return to try the accommodation when next up in the area!

Poor service, felt very rushed by the waitress to order our food then had to wait over an hour for our luke warm meals to arrive. They had run out of burger buns so the £15.95 burger came on a slice of bread. The chips were cold, I requested no salad and it came with salad. It could not have been worse, the burger was completely overcooked, the chicken was as hard as plastic and the sauce was rationed, the whole meal was dryer than the Sahara.
The consensus around the table was the same, ‘noodles taste like they’ve been cooked in bath water’ ‘overcooked food’ ‘food was luke warm’. You could tell the food had just been sat in the kitchen.
Wouldn’t recommend.

We both chose the steak pie, when it arrived the mash and veg were only lukewarm the pie was a little warmer but not hot. We told the waitress and she apologised and said it was hot when it left the kitchen as they had used a probe, she returned it to the kitchen.
When it came back the plate was red hot but the food was just lukewarm again , We should have sent it back again but we decided just to eat it as we were hungry and didn’t want the hassle again.
After eating the waitress asked if everything was ok, I said we were disappointed as the food was still lukewarm. She was very abrupt and said there’s nothing I can do about it was probed again and was piping hot and then walked off. I suggest this establishment invest in a new probe!!
Plenty of places in Skipton to eat so will choose somewhere else next time and will probably be cheaper than £6-95 for a glass of red wine.

Great location for being central in town and with plenty of parking to the rear of the premises for all guests.

We were in the 3 roomed annex, rather than the main building which has 9 rooms. The annex contains the superior rooms.
Room was bright with good ventilation, clean and equipped sufficiently for a short stay. Bed was actually two beds joined together, so was huge, and was very comfortable.
Towels and toiletries were supplied along with the typical kettle and tea/coffee facilities.
As the annex rooms are to the rear of the beer garden, they are reasonably quiet at all hours, with only the occasional rowdy drinkers being a minor disturbance, but it is a central pub and should probably be expected. Other rooms in the main building may have been noiseier, so it may be worth enquiring on the location of your room before booking.
We had planned to eat and drink at the pub on both nights of our stay, but due to issues with my food order on our first evening I returned my meal for a refund and we opted to go elsewhere instead.
Breakfast involved a reasonable selection of buffet items and a selection of cooked breakfast options.
Full cooked breakfast was OK, but the omelette and eggs florentine options were much better on our second morning.
Easter Sunday started with a rude awakening, as the fire alarm went off at 6am. Only saw one member of staff on site investigating the situation and nobody to give guidance to those that did bother to leave their rooms.
I made myself known to the staff member, as a fire marshal, and was told that someone had been smoking in a room, but breakfast staff suggested it was a fault in the system.
Check out is normally by 10:30am, or you can pay £10, as we did, to give yourself a more relaxed morning and an extra couple of hours to be on your way. As we had been awakened so early though, it was pointless hanging around.

Staff are patronising, condescending unhelpful and rude, as if they are doing paying customers a favour. The entrance to the bar, when waiting to be seated, smells of stale urine. Loads of useless perspex screens cluttering up the eating area, yet the staff coming right to everyones tables with no masks or PPE at all. Ridiculous and risky for staff and customers. Other pubs the staff have full plastic face shields when customer facing. Food is very overpriced and really greasy. Complaints about lack of peas ( a lump of pureed peas the size of a 10 pence piece should not be described as fish chips and peas that is charged at 16 quid a plate ). We were met with more eye rolling when requesting some vinegar which then resulted in in them bringing ONE sachet of vinegar. Really appalling service, attitude, quality. Avoid this place like the plague and take your custom to an establishment that treats customers fairly and with respect, and where you get proper food and courtesy.

My partner and I stayed at Woolly Sheep Inn recently as part of a short trip to Skipton to celebrate his birthday. I already knew the pub was great and the rooms looked very high quality on the website - and we were not disappointed.

Indeed we stayed fairly recently at a so called 4 start hotel that charged us much more for a smaller room badly in need of redecoration - and kept commenting on how much better value the Woolly Sheep was/is.

The bed was very comfy, all you need for a short stay is provided including fresh milk in a thermos flask for teas/coffees. When we booked there was only a double with a sofa bed left but this gave us more room to maneuver and we felt was still good value at £125 pn. It was at the back of the main building overlooking the beer garden but punters were moved on well before midnight and you really can't complain about the noise of people enjoying a drink if you stay in a pub!

The free car park for residents was a real bonus in central Skipton. And we took advantage of the extended checkout for £5, allowing for some last minute shopping and a quick snack (no need for lunch after hearty breakfast) finally leaving our room around 12.30pm.

The only compliant was there was no hot water for a shower in the morning, but I see someone else staying around the same time as us noted this so must just have been a temporary issue. Wont put us off coming back again!!

Just returned from 2 nights at the Wooly Sheep. Was a bit worried having read some of the negative comments. All I can say is ignore them, this is a great pub with wonderful staff who were all extremely polite, friendly and helpful. The whole place was spotless and well geared up for Covid.Signs about which door to enter and leave by very clear. The room we got was an upgrade as they hadn't a dog friendly room, it was very tastefully decorated and furnishings and fittings of good quality, with lots of little extras, even fresh milk provided in a thermos, teas coffee's and biscuits all replenished daily. Ideal base to explore from.

We have been to this pub previously for food a few years ago which we remembered was lovely. This was our second time in Skipton and as we thought the rooms looked nice we booked a weekend stay here and so glad we did. It is right in the centre of the town, it has secure free parking at the rear of the pub. The pub itself very clean and has hand sanitizer freely available. The room was excellent, although not the largest, it was enough for us both, the bed was definitely bigger than a double, and the decor was pleasant and clean. There were lots of extras, free bottled water, biscuits, an abundance of free teabags and coffee, and fresh milk in a flask was provided to us on arrival. There is also hairdryer and a flat screen tv on the wall which we didn't even watch as Skipton was beckoning. The breakfast served was lovely and appeared to be good quality produce. We also ate two meals here and couldn't fault the food. I'd recommend the Sticky Toffee Pudding! As for previous reviews , we can only state that the staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating but not 'in your face'. This is an ideal place to stay due to it being right in the centre of the town. The only advice I'd give, is if you are coming on a weekend when the market is on, its a bit tricky to navigate getting to the car-park, you can't come down the high street as that is closed. The owner or manager, was on hand to help though as was a helpful neighbour who gave us directions when we turned up at the wrong bit. All in all, it made for a very enjoyable weekend and we will definitely be staying here again when we return.
