Stayed here recently for a night, room was overlooking the canal at the back of the hotel, it was quiet and comfortable. There was tea/coffee, toiletries in the bathroom, extra pillows and a couple of heaters to keep the room warm. Also had coffee in the conservatory during the afternoon, a lovely relaxing venue with comfortable chairs. Dinner was served in the dining room, had 2 courses - thought it was pricey for the area and just average quality. Breakfast had a decent choice including vegetarian/vegan options. The staff made us feel safe during covid times, there were several hand sanitizer stations dotted around the hotel, they took temperatures when entering. All in all a good place to stay for a short break. Only negative about the room was the very noisy sliding door to the bathroom, which also didn't give much privacy.

Having missed our holiday in Northumberland due to lockdown we were looking for somewhere to have a few days away and get some walking in as well. Having never visited Skipton and due to its location for the Dales we started looking for places to stay within the area and came across Herriotts and what a find it was.

The hotel has ensured guests feel safe with temperature checking on arrival, screens between dining tables and at reception and plenty of hand sanitiser stations.

Our room was within the main building which is listed and was very comfortable with everything you could need. Having looked at the restaurant menu we upgraded to dinner, bed and breakfast and were not disappointed. Rhubarb restaurants food is excellent with a good choice of starters, mains and desserts, and the breakfast is wonderful too.

What really makes this hotel worth visiting and revisiting is it’s staff. All of them are fantastic with a friendly smile, very polite and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. An example of how amenable the hotel and its staff are is that we originally planned to stay for 2 nights but were enjoying our break so much that we extended it by an extra night. We had to move rooms to enable us to do this but we were told to leave our luggage in our room and they would move it to our new room for us, so we had no inconvenience at all.

Herriotts was a brilliant find and we shall definitely look at staying here again when we visit Skipton or the Yorkshire Dales.

we booked a 7 night stay and were really pleased with everything about the hotel and staff. All guidelines being well adhered to,temperature checks prior to booking in, wearing of masks when moving around the hotel and multiple hand sanitisers placed around in public places. All the staff were polite, friendly and helpful ,especially Lauren who always found time for a chat .Check in was very quick and you were soon shown to a table at meal times. Screens had been placed between certain tables in the Rhubarb restaurant to maintain social distancing and menus written up on big boards so as to do away with handing out menus. We had booked for breakfast but also ate in the hotel some nights, very good meals and quick efficent service. The location is perfect for exploring the area,it borders a lovely walk along the tow path into central Skipton, and there is a huge Morrisons opposite for petrol and any bits of shopping you might need. I would definitely recommend the hotel, everything about our stay was perfect, we were in room 17,lovely room ,very quiet

We came across this hotel after a last minute change of plan. I'm glad we found it! An easy check in ( following Covid guidelines) led to a charming room in the old part of the hotel & it was spotlessly clean, with my only slight negative being a very tiny wardrobe. But then for a one night stay it didn't really matter to us,but may do for others. The hotel is an old converted house & a newer part built behind it around a central courtyard and conservatory. The newer part backs onto the canal towpath which leads into the town centre, a nice stroll for us & our pooch. Yes,it's a dog friendly hotel too,and he was pampered throughout ( even getting his own breakfast!). There is also a large well kept park on the other side of the canal which helped our pampered pooch to run off his breakfast! The staff were all unfailingly polite & helpful. We didn't eat in the restaurant but had breakfasts. There was the usual choice of continental and cooked. We both chose cooked ones which were very good. The bar area was nicely decorated & spotless. For £95 including breakfast (& a minimal dog charge) this hotel was great value.
Although our stay wasn't a long one,we'll definitely be back as it's also in a perfect spot for exploring the surrounding area.

My friend and I were taking a tour of the Dales and chose skipton as a central point and opted to stay at the Heriot hotel. Originally there were four of us taking part but due to a spike in the virus in the surrounding towns two dropped out due to concerns.
Despite reservations my friend and I decided to continue with the trip and were very pleased that we did. On arrival at the hotel we were Greeted by staff in face shields and asked to sanitise our hands before having out temperatures taken. On checking in we were asked for our card details and handed our rooms cards and details in a sealed envelope to save contamination. This was the set format of our two night stay with all staff wearing face shields at all times from the the cleaners to the waitresses and with hand sanitizer stationions situated in all parts of the hotel on all floors
I have solely mentioned the health and safety side of this hotel as I had two friends drop out due to Covid concerns so for those that are worried about travelling and staying in this hotel please, please don’t let this prevent you from staying. Other than this side of my review I would also like to say the staff were all very friendly and helpful and I won’t highlight just one or two individuals as they were all equally helpful and charming. Breakfast and evening meals were had and the food was excellent so the 4.5 star rating on trip advisor for this hotel are definitely well deserved!
If you are thinking of of travelling and staying here please do not let the worry of current times put you offf.

Visited with group of friends on the day before 'Freedom Day' and stayed 3 nights. The hotel had a very pleasant atmosphere, and great location bordering the picturesque canal, a short walk away (along towpath) to the town centre. We couldn't fault the excellent staff, who were cheerful, helpful and efficient. Rooms were of a decent size, with only the odd very minor niggles, (such as blinds which wouldn't close completely, unfindable leak from shower screen onto well appointed bathroom floor). The room had a very nice, large flat screen TV (slightly 'wonky'), tea/coffee making facilities, very comfortable beds and a very welcome electric fan to keep us cool during the very warm nights. Food choice was really good, and the evening meals were excellent, although breakfast was a little inconsistent. (eg. Eggs Benedict excellent on day 1 & 3, but poor on day 2. 'Runny' egg on full breakfast on day 1, hard yolk on following days. Orders a little mixed up on day3.) These are somewhat picky complaints as we were really impressed with the food in general. The hotel bar and garden bar were really good, with reasonable prices and decent choice of beers, wine etc. Although we were directly opposite the train station, we were not troubled by train noise. We were however aware of a low volume 'knocking' noise at intervals of around a minute for most of the night, which, once you noticed, could get a little annoying until we 'dropped off'. Upon enquiring about it, we were told that it was thought to be a heating system problem which the hotel was in the process of fixing. All in all the faults were extremely minor and the plusses great. We would definitely consider staying here again.

Just returned from a 3 day trip to Skipton where we stayed at this beautiful hotel. From the moment we arrived everything ran smoothly. The hotel is immaculate throughout and the bedrooms with the en-suite are very well organised with everything you need, hairdryer, iron, ironing boards and TV’s. We opted for BB & Evening meal. The food was amazing with enough variety to suit everyone’s needs. The group would also like to praise all the staff who were extremely pleasant throughout our stay. Would defo recommend this hotel. Thanks xx

A regular business visitor to Skipton and the Herriots Hotel.
I have stayed at the majority of other hotels in Skipton but Herriots is always my first choice.
Great location, situated close to the centre, close to the train station and backs onto the canal which offers great walking/running routes.
The staff at the hotel are very friendly, helpful and accommodating to all your needs. The manager, Chris and his team will always go out of their way to assist in anyway they can.
The hotel is always very clean.
There are various room types to suit all needs with each one decorated in its own modern and/or authentic styles and although they have limited amenities in the room, the rooms have always been spot on, clean and comfortable. (i have stayed in most if not all rooms)
Food menu is a little limited but the quality of the food is very good. Always a nice relaxed atmosphere in the bar and restaurant in the evenings.
Free parking and WIFI
Overall, an excellent place to stay for visiting Skipton for personal or business, I have stayed here a lot over the years and never had any issues and have always been very happy with the service, rooms and food during my stay.

Stayed recently on a weeks tour of the Yorkshire Dales as a birthday surprise for my wife.
Herriots is conveniently situated a short walk from the town centre which can either be made along the main road or more interestingly along the tow path at the back of the hotel along the Leeds Liverpool canal down into the centre.
Our room was on the back of the hotel overlooking the courtyard and on entering the room, the large pedestal fan was obviously there, but very welcome as the room was quite warm but the fan helped with this.
When we first arrived at the hotel we dropped the car in the car park and went to let the staff know we were a little early and were popping into the town centre.
Staff checked our temperature prior to allowing us into the building which was the first time we had experienced this under the current conditions and whilst a little un-nerving ( only as it was new to us ) was quite reassuring as we had been travelling around the area all week staying in different pubs and hotels and all had different interpretations of the regulations.
We dined out so cannot comment on the bar or restaurant facilities but on our return to the hotel that night the restaurant seemed to be very busy, but that could be connected to the extension of the eat out to help out the hotel were operating at the time.
However, the breakfast was well presented and was hot and plenty to set us up for the day.
Check out was easy and overall the hotel provided a comfortable and pleasant base to visit Skipton.
Morrison’s is directly opposite which was great for refuelling for the rest of the journey.
For any travellers utilising the rail network, Skipton railway station is directly opposite the hotel also.

This hotel is a gem, situated in a very good location beside the canal, with easy access to Skipton town centre. The room was gorgeous, very comfortable, and importantly felt very reassuring in the current Covid climate, the whole hotel was spotless with good routines in place around managing guest and staff welfare. Food was lovely, really nice meals served. Very stylishly presented accommodation......... Will definitely visit again...
