Friendly bar staff checked us in as the “24 hour reception” was closed.
The food in the restaurant was hot, plenty and tasty.
The rooms were comfy and pleasant.
Can’t comment on breakfast as staff didn’t turn up for it! We booked it for 7:30 (along with other guests) and the chef finally appeared at 7:45 (after I had made a phone call and ended up speaking to someone who wasn’t on the premises who said he would make a call). We had to leave without breakfast as the chef explained that the waiting staff had not shown up they would have to do it all and things “may take longer than normal”.
Had to hand our keys to the chef as again, the 24 hour reception desk was closed.

A very centrally located hotel in Carmarthen. There is a car park here, we arrived in the evening and it was almost full - please be aware that the car park is small and tight, do not attempt if you are a nervous driver! Check-in was quick and friendly. We stayed in the master room and it was really lovely. It was a nice size and very clean. The bathroom was very modern. The room was lovely and warm which we appreciated as it was freezing outside! The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was made to order and very nice. The pub downstairs was busy but the music didn't go on too late so it didn't affect our sleep thankfully. The only thing I would say is that the curtains didn't fully block the light from the streets. Blackout curtains would have allowed for a much better sleep in my opinion. Overall a very cute and festive stay and we enjoyed. Recommended!

not sure where to start... the owners/proprietors are very nice. He moved his car so i could park mine. This hotel should come with the warning regarding poor parking facilities; if you have a big car forget it, park somewhere else or risk damaging your car. Our room was poor, it smelt of damp, there were water stained everywhere; it was not very clean and the tea/coffee facilities were poor. The bathroom was ok, it looks like it was refurbished not so long ago, but the paint was peeling off already and the towels were just awful - very small with ragged edges and stains.
One of the waitresses was so awful that when we came down for breakfast one of the couples already sited in the dining room greeted us with 'good luck guys'. At one point i thought that i will be wearing my breakfast and when she dropped a tea pot which i picked up she didn't even say thank you. After a while we were joined by our cycling friends who thought that she was the original Welsh dragon. They had a nice breakfast but when they asked for a piece of brown toast they were 'presented' by one slice of white toast between the two of them and an angry look! On leaving another couple said to us 'lucky you!' At all points during serving breakfast she was wearing her face mask down on her chin, not covering her mouth or nose...Shame!

Staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included, staff were great with the kids. Steps to our room were a little steep and strange but with extra precaution not an issue. You do have to drive through a narrow alley to access the car park at the back but the car park is free. There is only around 8 spaces though and they do shut the door to the alley at night but you can actually open it yourself apparently so my partner was told the next morning (we just assumed returning quite late that it was locked). Because it was hot we had the windows open at night and there was a lot of night life outside during the weekend from the local pubs. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom looked newly renovated. Rooms were regularly cleaned and coffee, tea and biscuits were topped up daily. It was overall a pleasant stay.

The staff we met were first class at maintaining social distancing and wearing masks etc. Hygiene was first class. My wife and I both had fish and chips from the menu and really enjoyed our well cooked and presented meals. Our drinks were the first beers we'd had for months because of lockdown, the Felinfoel bitter was fabulous. We don't live nearby but will be going back very soon. Our safety was important to the hotel.

Location is quite good and easy walk to the town.
The staff where not the most welcoming and a bit of a smile would not go a miss.
Room 10 appears on the whole a nice twin room and at first appeared clean except for the dirty builders gloves in the bed side cabinet.
Would be nice if curtains fitted better to block out light.
Had very little sleep as the Windows are not sound proof, given at time of our visit was an end of month weekend and we where in a lock down situation and most pubs and clubs had very few customers the noise of drunks going past till gone 4am was unbearable, God help us if it had been a busy weekend full of people.
Would be nice to have control of the heating as the fluctuation of temperature from freezing to boiling through the night was unbearable.
Now we go to breakfast, 3 star food rating from food safety standard, I person on breakfast service and unable to keep milk, coffee etc stocked, food service was slow and food was not the best, eggs like bullets , very greasy , wife's food was served minus eggs as they where waiting for them to fry ??, Egg finally arrived 20 minutes later after she finished her food and was just unceremoniously slid off a side plate on to her plate.
I asked if the coffee was going to be replenished to be rudely told by the gentleman that breakfast had finished as it was now 9.30 am, even though we had been waiting over half hour for coffee , milk , juice to be replenished.

My parents had walked past this place several times and thought that the food looked good. With it being their wedding anniversary they thought they would treat themselves to a meal out, now being somewhat elderly this is a rare treat, when they arrived they were asked if they wanted to sit in the bar or the dining room, they chose the dining room and were seated at a very low table which made them feel rather uncomfortable, they were given menus and noticed that a Carvery was set up, my mother noticed they did a creamy garlic mushroom on ciabatta to start so decide to try this, she waited nearly 45 minutes for this and when she asked the man serving she was told in no uncertain terms ‘there are other people in here you know’ when the food arrived it was not a ciabatta it was a small finger roll barely toasted and all soggy from the cream sauce. When they went to get their Carvery the veg was still sitting in water in a Bain Marie which they had to stand and drain the water from the veg themselves before putting it on the plate, the mashed swede and large lumps in it and the mash potatoes was no better with lumps the size of golf balls. The Yorkshire pudding sealed the fate of this review, they were tiny chucked in a Bain Marie and left all soggy there. To top off this awful dining experience while they were eating their food a member of the kitchen staff was heard to shout ‘don’t f…ing ask me about the parsnips’ not exactly the kind of language my parents are used to. Suffice to say my parents wedding anniversary treat was totally ruined and they were left very very upset, they were not even asked if everything was fine with their meal. Having heard this when I visited this evening I tried to phone the restaurant to speak to management, and I was told the manager won’t be in until 10am tomorrow and the person I spoke to had only just come on shift and could not or would not help. Totally and utterly disgusted at this. I would not recommend this place now, my poor parents have wasted what money they had to celebrate their anniversary on a totally awful experience. I felt so bad for them that I have bought a voucher to eat and a more trustworthy and dependable restaurant in town where I know customer service is guaranteed.

Possibly the worst place I have ever stayed. Not so much a hotel as a number of rooms above a music venue which plays well into the night, making it impossible to sleep.

Staff told that I would have been informed of this when I booked, and argued this point until I produced the booking e-mail.

I was then informed that everyone in Carmarthen knows that the Boar's Head was a lively music venue, and he seemed surprised that this information hadn't reached London.

If you want a room in which you can listen to loud music through poorly sound proofed walls and watch the furniture shake with the vibrations, this is great. If you want to sleep, not so good.

We stayed here last night, whilst we've been travelling around the last few days, well what can I say! staff friendly and room clean.

Mattress could feel every spring and very uncomfortable.
No free shower gel etc

But the worst of all of this I'm afraid to say is that the food was awful.
After a long day travelling all we wanted was a nice meal and a beer, so a beer in the cosy bar was lovely, sadly weren't allowed to eat in there??
So had to move into eating area.
I ordered Scampi and chips, Scampi ok, chips undercooked, peas couldn't even taste these as I think they'd been microwaved too many times and the limpest salad I've ever seen, so only ate the Scampi, my husband's fish was completely overcooked that he couldn't eat it and chips were OK, when we told the staff they just apologised and told us that all food was frozen!!!.

Could they get breakfast right! Errr no, I ordered pouched eggs on toast all looked fab until I broke the egg all over my toast so undercooked that my plate was swimming, so just reordered toast.

Shame as the girl waiting on us was lovely.

One place ticked never to go back too and this is the first one.
