Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You read reviews, talking about coat hangers and ironing boards, the colour of the decor in the reception area, and never get an idea of the "vibe" of a place.
Sorry to use the "vibe", yet i can't think of a better term to encompass the feelings I have towards this establishment.
Firstly, it's huge, plenty of space. Had a kitchen where we could cook what we wanted, and were actively encouraged to do so. This was welcomed as we'd climbed some small bit of the mighty Mournes that day.
We arrived in the off season, so the place was quiet. Mairead and her sister did so much to make us feel welcome. We were given fuel for the fire, heating was turned on, and told to turn the lights off when we went to bed. Two french lads said the breakfast was class. they had requested full irish breakfast and it did not disappoint!
the en suite room was clean, warm and had tea making facilities. Our dog was allowed to stay with us. Handy information booklet for the local area which formed the basis of our routes was also supplied in the room.
You might think it is just another hostel, but it more than that. It is a "community" based project, championed by Mairead and her sister, and this gives the place a different "vibe". There is not the feeling of being gouged financially. There is a real and definite benefit to supporting this establishment by spending a few nights here to discover the area.
Good vibes indeed. P.S visit the reservoir, it is stunning there too.

Absolutely 1st Class Lodge. Mairead, met us & explained loads of interesting things about the area. Unfortunately we were only staying 1 night but will definitely be back.
Comfortable beds, spotless accommodation, loads of extras: hot water bottles, fresh spring water, toiletries, hairdryers, straightners & fab kitchen, great for meeting other climbers & interesting people. Very reasonable.

We spent 2 nights here as a family of 4 with our dog. Mairead gave us a magnificent Mourne welcome. She served us the heartiest of breakfasts and catered for our vegetarian son while filling us in on the area. It was great to get local insight and from someone who clearly loves her native area. The lodge itself is clean and comfortable and had a huge kitchen and living room and a costcutters next door. This is a great place. We will be back.

Stayed here recently with a family member and was completely overwhelmed with the warmth and comfort of the hospitality on arrival from the fabulous host Mairead. The lady is a one in a million, she accommodates to the best and never hesitates to make you feel at home and welcome. The furniture and fittings reminded me of my childhood which brought back a homely feeling after travelling from over in England. I would also like to point out the outstanding views and endless trails that lead up and through the Mourne Mountains, do not miss the chance! A picture just doesn't quite cut it sometimes. Highly recommend to both family and friends. I will definitely return. Thank you very much Mairead.

This lodge is perfectly tucked away near to the beaten path. We called Mairead the morning we needed a place and she was so quick and happy to accommodate us. She personally welcomed us and made us feel so at home. The beds were clean and comfortable, the rooms private and spacious, the self-catering kitchen well stocked, and the cosy common room with fire the perfect end to a drive in the dusky rain!
Calling the lodge and speaking to someone directly was ideal as it allowed Mairead to cater perfectly to our needs as a group. Please take the time to stay at Mourne Lodge! You absolutely won’t regret it.

A very welcoming stay where you can feel right at home. The surrounding area is very quiet at night and I slept very soundly. Bed were very comfortable. Shared kitchen area was very user friendly and clean. There is a local store to buy essentials. The area is spectacular.

My sister and I stayed here for one night, everything was fantastic. The service and breakfast was just perfect. The bed was so comfortable and the room was spotless. The lady who owns it was a wealth of knowledge about the area. We would definitely recommend this place.

stayed here last saturday night and had worst experience of my life. had booked a family room (which on website showed a double bed and bunk beds). i had phoned in advance to say we would be calling mid-morning to leave our bags (since check in wasnt until 5pm) and was told this was no problem. on arrival I was greeted halfway up stairs (leading to Reception) by a less than friendly host telling me 'the rooms arent ready'. My first impression was needless to say not what i expected.
After parting with £100 for the room we went on to belfast. As room wasnt ready wasnt able to view it - unfortunately. The owner said she would move our luggage into our room (which she didnt do)
On returning that evening - what a shock we were in for ! On opening the door of our room to my horror we discovered it contained only 4 bunk beds - no double. Words cannot describe the embarrassment and disappointment I felt. And it was to get worse - when we were informed that we had to share an en-suite with another family in an adjoining room. There werent even towels in the room. I spoke to the owner about my disappointment and she waffled on about 'the other family room (containing the double bed) having been taken'. Ii felt both let down and deceived.. I have travelled the world and never have I had such a bad experience as at this accomodation.
I want to warn any other family thinking of booking here - AVOID and dont waste your hard earned money on what is essentially a hostel for back-packers .
