Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed for 2 nights with work. All was great (food, room and staff) until the 2nd morning when was woken by an extremely loud whirring noise. It was the food delivery wagon with its chiller motor going full blast. 7am directly below my bedroom window. Rang down to reception and was told yeh sorry we get our delivery at this time. Maybe change the delivery time then? So much for nice lie in.

Disappointed quite a small room. Loose headboard & a toilet that moved when you sat on it (not seat) don't think it was secured to floor! Unfortunately the light outside door was on all night which because of lovely old door leaked into room! Lots of dust ( high level) picture frame on back of door & top of wardrobe.Dinner in the bar was just OK nothing amazing! On Plus side exceptionally lovely friendly staff which makes you feel so welcome. Overall given the cost would feel very overpriced. Staff definitely the highlight of stay.

We really loved the Belmont. Beautiful building, the bedroom was spacious with high ceilings and a big comfortable bed. Lots of tea, coffee, milk etc provided and biscuits and hot chocolate. Products in the bathroom were fabulous. Every member of staff we met was so friendly and helpful. We knew we would arrive about an hour before the standard check in time so rang ahead to see if our room could be available. I spoke to a very pleasant young man who checked with housekeeping for us and our room was ready when we arrived. The breakfast, served in the lovely diningroom, was delicious and plentiful. The hotel is very close to town, just a short walk.

Excellent meal with family Saturday past. Food and service superb and very reasonably priced, including the wine. After the meal we headed down to the basement bar for a few drinks, very relaxing . Haven't been to the Belmont in years but will definitely be back. Finally, the Christmas decorations inside and out are absolutely fabulous. Brilliant night all round.

This is a nice hotel. I stayed in room 3 which was fairly small with a tiny bathroom and a broken loo seat! Dinner was lovely. Breakfast seemed a bit on the mean side - you had to choose just one from a choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt or juice. I chose the fruit. Interestingly 2 other guests chose the cereal and were also offered a juice as well but I wasn’t given that option. I had the poached eggs which were nice but there was no extras, no one came back to see if I might want more milk for my coffee (which I did) or more toast (which I also did). It all a felt a bit basic for a hotel breakfast. Good parking though and a pretty building.

Hotel aesthetically looks amazing! The food from the restaurant is 5 star! The breakfast was honestly out of this world (full English). The beds are really comfy and the barman who was on in the evening when I visited was very good and his Guinness was the best I have ever tasted. Staff here are very good, very friendly and seem to love their jobs …… but that’s where the brilliance ended for me. I stayed in room 11 and the shower was worse than the showers we had in Greece the week before on our family holidays. Zero pressure and the shower head needs a good clean. It states in the welcome sheet that sky sports are available on the tv in the bedroom, they are not! There is a really bright light outside room 11, good luck sleeping if you need a really dark room. Also, room 11 is just off the main stairs and the creaking is an issue when people clamber up and down the stairs at night. The room phone kept illuminating the whole room during the evening, so much so that I placed a towel over the screen. Went to make some tea in the morning and the milk was completely curdled! All in all the hotel is stunning but the finer details really need working on to make it perfect. I’ll still rate this 5/5

I understand that this hotel has had a beautiful make over and honestly it’s been done so well. Our room was very comfortable, bathroom was clean and the facilities were excellent. We had an evening meal and also breakfast both well prepared. The young women on the reception desk could not do enough to help us, a credit to all the staff that work there. Highly recommend this hotel

What a wonderful staff team this hotel employs. They really make the place! Fabulous breakfast - fresh local ingredients! We were over due to illness of a family member and they were very understanding when our plans had to change! We would definitely recommend and would stay again.

I have now had two bad experiences at this hotel in a row. A couple of months ago my wife, young toddler and myself attended the restaurant for lunch. We actually arrived 10 minutes early and ordered a couple of drinks. We were approached by an overly officious waitress to take our order. We told her that we would like to wait to have our drinks before ordering but she told us that as there was a wedding on in the hotel we would have to order now or it would be an hour and a half before she could come back to us. No apology, so we left and went elsewhere due to the way she spoke to us. I have her name should the management wish to contact me. On the second occasion last Saturday we looked up the menu on the internet and booked a table in the bar. A similar situation arose. We wanted to order out toddler's meal first to get him fed so that we could relax and enjoy our own food. This was not possible as there was a function on and it "didn't suit the chefs". Nevertheless, we did order and I have no complaints about the food. However, when I received the bill it appeared that something wasn't right. I had the Brie wedges as a main which was priced as £11 on the menu but was charged £12. My wife had the chicken wrap which was priced at £10.50 on the menu on the website, £11 on the menu in the bar, but we had been charged £12. I pointed this out to reception staff and they said they would change the bill, which they did, but still charged me £11 for the chicken wrap instead of the £10.50. When I pointed this out the attitude was "Well, you saw the price on the menu when you ordered so that's the price you have to pay". Rather that try to explain the intricacies of consumer rights and legislation I asked for a manager, but was told that there was no manager working that day. So, a hotel where the restaurant is booked out, and there is a major function in progress does not have a manager on duty? Either this was a lie, or questions need to be asked as to how this hotel is being run. In the end I had to refuse to pay in order to have the bill correctly altered. I couldn't care less about the money. It means nothing to me, but I don't like the thought of other people being overcharged. Setting everything aside, all I really wanted was an apology. At no stage did I get one, hence the 2 stars.

Stayed in one of the superior rooms and it was definitely superior. Plenty of space, very large and comfortable bed. The staff were so friendly, Callum and Michael are excellent bar staff. Dinner was great value and excellent food. Beautiful building with beautiful gardens. We will return.
