I stayed over at Harley’s Bar with my family whilst attending a wedding in Chesterfield. We were able to check in and collect keys early and our warm welcome included an explanation of how to access our accommodation in anticipation of our late return from the wedding. Our rooms were well maintained and very clean. We enjoyed a peaceful and comfortable overnight stay. The coffee and tea making facilities were very high tech! The highlight of our visit was our delicious and generous breakfast the following morning which was a bargain at £6 a head. My daughter is vegan and she was very well catered for. With its convenient location close to the M1, we were back on the road by 9. Harley’s Bar exceeded our expectations and we would definitely stay there when we next visit Chesterfield.

Great place to stay, no lift but hey ho. Breakfast a must to keep you going all day. The staff are so friendly it is worth the stay alone. One comment I must say is, the mattress in our room, sounded like we were sleeping on a gravel road, sprung and very noisy, just turning over sounded like a car was driving up the gravel road. But I have ear plugs, not so my partner. Also if you are a smoker there is a great smoking veranda. Oh, blinds, no curtains, so sun up, wake up !!

Stayed here as a last minute option. Were very hungry and the signs said food until 8 - it was 7:30 but they had stopped and had no intention of restarting! To be fair the staff we met were very nice friendly people and the room was comfortable enough and clean - and for the price you couldn't expect much more. The shower door was broken. However by far the worst thing was the noise. Really loud partying - from a quite small group until 2am and then for another half hour outside below our window. Went into Chesterfield the next morning and so wished we had gone on the night before to any one of the really nice looking places we saw there!

Harleys Bar in Staveley is run by Keith and Linda, you will not find a more friendly couple. They are both extremely good company, and give just about the best value for money you will find in England. Upon arrival, I was checked in by Teresa, a very nice lady who gives you a very warm welcome. I stayed in room number 3 on a cold night in January 2012, my room was very warm, the en suite facilities were good. The bar area has a good pool table, a large TV to watch and parking is free and secure outside. Linda is a brilliant chef, and eating here is highly recommended. She also cooked my breakfast and that was really very nice as well, please see the photo I took.

Thank you very much Keith & Linda, I will be back.

Richard Kaminski.

Booked via booking.com. I needed a place to stay over night as I was passing through and checked out my normal premier inn and it seemed a little pricey. Decided to have a look around for something else a little cheaper if possible (difficult in that area) and Harleys popped up at a whopping £30 cheaper than premier inn.
Checked the reviews out, all seemed good (except for the usual whinging ones), especially considering the price.
On arrival I was met in the bar and handed room keys and asked if I wanted breakfast (I’ll go in to that a little later). I did and paid for it there and then and was personally shown to my room. A wonderfully clean, and compact room that’s appears to have recently been renovated to a high standard, including the en-suite. If it hasn’t been recently renovated and this is the standard of room, then I tip my hat to you!
I was overlooking the area in front of the bar and the main road which was a little noisy here and there but to be fair, the room had good quality double glazing and once windows were shut I couldn’t hear much at all.
The usual tea and coffee making was available with a one cup breville water heating machine which was so much faster than those awful hotel room kettles. A nice large tv on the wall and ample room for storing clothes etc.
My only point here was there is just a Venetian blind on the windows and no curtains, so early in the morning I woke briefly due to the light but it is a minor quibble. I spelt well and the bed was comfortable.
The whole place is tastefully decorated and very well maintained.
Sadly, I arrived after 6pm and no food was available.
You are given a key to the side entrance, but can I suggest you try it before going outlet and not coming back until the wee hours as I had issues with the lock, it was a little temperamental at times and eventually I abandoned the side entrance and just used the main one.
In the morning I went down and let them know I was there. Now, when I ordered breakfast, I ordered a large after querying what ‘large’ meant to them and I was reassured when told that it meant two of everything, whereas the small was one of everything. I truly wasn’t prepared for the size of the plate that came or I’d have ordered the small. I ate was I good and what was there was hot, wholesome food, cooked well. I skipped lunch.
This place really is a little gem, clean, nicely decorated, good food and friendly staff, what more could you want?

On arrival we were told that evening meals and breakfast were not available in the hotel. We were offered to bring in a Chinese or Indian takeaway instead. With an absence of local restaurants they suggested we take a taxi for a meal. Too late to find an alternative accommodation we ate at the local Morrison's Supermarket. Staff were friendly and the room was clean but tired as are the public areas. We were unable to adjust the shower temperature - very hot or cold. The wifi was week and unreliable.
We would not recommend this hotel.
We were not the only disappointed guests that night.
