What a fantastic place! Owners, Sue and John, were so welcoming and friendly. The rooms are beautifully and individually decorated and had everything you could need, including a fridge, which was topped up daily with fresh milk and water. Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice, and freshly cooked as you ordered.
Will definitely be going back.

This B&B is being run by a very professional couple who take pride in everything they do. That in turn makes your stay truly memorable.
Wonderful location and very reasonably priced.
Highly recommended to all that enjoy being pampered as we were.

What can I say about this exceptional bed & breakfast Sue & John are very friendly host the welcome was lovely shown to our room & everything was explained to us (shame we missed the cake on arrival but we did not arrive to 7.15pm!)
We had the Lady Bower suite which has exceptional views over Matlock & the cable cars, just lovely to sit on the sofa by the window & have a cup of tea. John & Sue have thought of everything down to bubble bath In bathroom, little bottle of milk in the fridge plenty of bottled water cotton pads & ear buds! You can also borrow certain electrical items if you have forgot yours & buy certain items you might have forgot !
The breakfast was excellent quality the sausages were very tasty plenty of food cereals & cooked English breakfast we were fully satisfied by breakfast ! The little touches like jugs of juice for each person, a little individual butter dish for each table no prepared butter ! There was a big chunk of butter for each table !
We have already booked to return !

What a fantastic B&B with amazing views.
We stayed for 4 nights in the Derwent suite which was lovely, loved the roll top bath.
Sue & John are so welcoming and friendly and welcome you with Coffee and Cake which was a really nice touch.
John's full English sets you up for your day of exploring the beautiful countryside around there.
We went to Buxton, Bakewell, Chatsworth house, Heights of Abraham, Monsel head & viaduct. We walked to Crompton canal and even down to Matlock Bath.
Well worth a visit if your exploring the area around Matlock

The accommodation at The Gables was exceedingly good. There are views across the valley towards Matlock. The rooms and furnishings were quality and deserving of praise. The cleanliness and comfort of the bedroom made me feel very much at home. The food matched the high standard set elsewhere. Breakfast was ordered and prepared freshly. It is not a self service buffet but delivered to table as requested. I appreciated this as I felt that there was no waste. I had cereal, fresh fruit platter and yoghurt, tomatoes and mushrooms and whole meal toast with butter and marmalade. I could have included fruit juice and a full English breakfast if I had wanted. I have no hesitation in recommending this B&B, though I expect booking ahead is advised as I’m sure it is very popular.

We stayed for our anniversary weekend and booked into the lovely Derwent Suite which has a huge picture window with views right up to the Heights of Abraham! The room was very comfortable, especially the bed! We both slept very well.

Breakfast was home cooked with locally sourced produce and was excellent. Sue and John are excellent hosts and made us feel quite at home. Thoroughly recommended.

We stayed here in the Derwent Suite, it was a lovely room with a stunning view. We were lucky as the weather was good, so was able to take advantage of sitting out on the lovely outdoor area overlooking amazing views. It is a short walk to the nearest pub which was nice and you can walk into Matlock Bath which was also nice, the walk back is steep but a taxi wouldn't cost much. Breakfast was lovely, fruit platter then full English with all local products. The hosts, Sue & John, are a lovely couple, on hand with any advice needed and took the time to have a nice chat. All in all this is a gorgeous b&b which has been lovingly restored and I would highly recommend.

Breakfast was excellent - lots of choice and freshly cooked to order. Met with tea/coffee and homemade cake on arrival. Dining room was pleasant and comfortable with lovely views. Bedroom was compact but well equipped (great to have a fridge) and it was very quiet. En-suite bathroom was modern and highly functional. Lounge was great for relaxing with a book and enjoying the views. Hosts were friendly and extremely helpful. There is more parking below the property if the driveway is full but this is close by so not a problem. Thanks to Sue and John for a lovely stay.

We stayed in the Derwent Suite which has fantastic views overlooking the Heights of Abraham. It has a lovely big bathroom with roll top bath and walk in shower. Comfy bed & very nice breakfast. Owners very nice and knowledgeable about the area. Catered well for my dairy allergy. Nice pub in walking distance. Highly recommend the Gables for a weekend break in the Peak District.

We stayed 2 nights in the Bakewell room. Welcomed warmly by Sue and shown our room which was small with lovely decor with modern en-suite. Breakfast was fab and cooked by Sue's husband, John. The view over to the Heights of Abraham from the B&B was great as it's on a steep hill. Park your car on the flat parking space a little down the hill. Thank you very much Sue & John xx

Hi Thank you for your query regarding the climb up to us. If you are travelling train then we can pick up from Cromford station which is a 5 minute drive but quite a walk up to us. Whilst we are on a steep hill there is a pub swithin 10 minutes walking distance from us called 'The White Lion and it is approx. 20 minutes walk down in to Matlock Bath. Hope this helps and we hope to hear from us soon.
