What a fantastic place! Owners, Sue and John, were so welcoming and friendly. The rooms are beautifully and individually decorated and had everything you could need, including a fridge, which was topped up daily with fresh milk and water. Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice, and freshly cooked as you ordered. Will definitely be going back.

Absolutely wonderful stay at The Gables. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights. Our room was called The Derwent Suite. Beautiful room with everything and more. The view was stunning. Sue & John were so friendly and the breakfast was first class. Lots of choice and really fresh. The road is quite steep to drive up to the b&b, but worth every penny!

The accommodation at The Gables was exceedingly good. There are views across the valley towards Matlock. The rooms and furnishings were quality and deserving of praise. The cleanliness and comfort of the bedroom made me feel very much at home. The food matched the high standard set elsewhere. Breakfast was ordered and prepared freshly. It is not a self service buffet but delivered to table as requested. I appreciated this as I felt that there was no waste. I had cereal, fresh fruit platter and yoghurt, tomatoes and mushrooms and whole meal toast with butter and marmalade. I could have included fruit juice and a full English breakfast if I had wanted. I have no hesitation in recommending this B&B, though I expect booking ahead is advised as I’m sure it is very popular.

My brother and I spent two nights at The Gables to get away from all the coronation celebrations and to explore Derbyshire. We enjoyed the Heights of Abraham and The Monsal Trail while Charlie and Cammie got new hats and played with the world’s largest dressing up box. John and Sue gave us a warm welcome and were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The Gables was clean and luxurious. The roads leading to The Gables are challenging, but the views are amazing. The breakfast was first class. I recommend this house to the world.

We had a very nice stay at The Gables in late December 2022. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are nice and spotlessly clean. Beds are comfortable. There is a nice sitting area with large windows and they had a lovely Christmas tree up. Breakfast was great. We always got the full cooked/English breakfast/fry-up but they had some other options as well, and there was plenty of food. It has a nice view and is pretty convenient for driving to and from in the area. The immediate lanes it is on are a little steep and twisty but that is a limited distance. The main problem was that we found the shower water pressure to be a bit weak. Otherwise, the bathrooms were nice and the stay was excellent.

What can I say about this exceptional bed & breakfast Sue & John are very friendly host the welcome was lovely shown to our room & everything was explained to us (shame we missed the cake on arrival but we did not arrive to 7.15pm!) We had the Lady Bower suite which has exceptional views over Matlock & the cable cars, just lovely to sit on the sofa by the window & have a cup of tea. John & Sue have thought of everything down to bubble bath In bathroom, little bottle of milk in the fridge plenty of bottled water cotton pads & ear buds! You can also borrow certain electrical items if you have forgot yours & buy certain items you might have forgot ! The breakfast was excellent quality the sausages were very tasty plenty of food cereals & cooked English breakfast we were fully satisfied by breakfast ! The little touches like jugs of juice for each person, a little individual butter dish for each table no prepared butter ! There was a big chunk of butter for each table ! We have already booked to return !…

This B&B is being run by a very professional couple who take pride in everything they do. That in turn makes your stay truly memorable. Wonderful location and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended to all that enjoy being pampered as we were.
