We have just come back from a short family break here and would recommend to anyone. Couples, families, friends etc. We were able to drive the car right up outside whilst we unpacked which was very helpful with a toddler, the beds were very comfy and both bedrooms were nicely decorated, tea/ coffee the next morning. We did feel our house did look a tiny bit tired in places but we look forward to coming back and staying again some time.

Me and my now husband eloped in Dorset and chose cranberries to stay for a mini honeymoon. The room we stayed in was lovely and clean. It was a really relaxing atmosphere for us and the staff can not do enough for you. Loved that we got fresh milk in the morning rather than the ones that come in plastic that was a great touch for us tea drinkers. We booked to use the hot tub and that was in a lovely area and set up nicely. Felt like we were the only ones there as we couldn’t hear anything apart from the birds. Food was good and not to pricey at all. Slush cocktails were very popular for us to! There was a prom going on when we stayed but we didn’t hear any noise and they have a separate entry and exit for events so it doesn’t disturb other guests. In the morning of us checking out we had to wait for a taxi and it was extremely hot and the bar was closed, so the chef tracked down a bar member and managed to get us some j2o’s. Thankyou for that as we had half n hour to wait and didn’t have any water with us. Unfortunately I can’t remember the chefs name only that she had just had a new grand baby born but please if you see this at all Chris please thank her! And Thankyou Chris and all your staff for a really welcome and relaxing time! Definitely will be back with our kids next time!

We stayed in December and in the milking shed. After reading reviews was slightly worried.
But in fact it was nothing like I had read.
It’s a family business and you can see the whole covid has hit this buisness hard and there are trying hard to please. You could pick fault any where you go so personally do what we did make your own opinion. We was very happy and surprised.
The milking shed was clean not ten star clean but a seven plus. I couldn’t find fault.
It was fully equipped to cook with and towels provided and anti bak soap in every bathroom and toilet. Thought the choice of utensils and pots and pans was brilliant and the glass selection. Down side the oven and hob could do with a upgrade . But it works fine as we cooked a pre Xmas dinner in it all.
Massive table to all seat round which is brilliant.
Loved the rooms , all had en suits.
TVS in every room , WiFi , and stunning view s on sunrise from the rooms .
Beds comfortable.
We had use of hot tub as it was part of the milking shed stay and it was clean and area tidy.
Only fault I would say is after two days of using the hot tub it got dirty and needed treatment.
We didn’t report it so I wouldn’t mark them down on that.
Personally would of been nice if someone done a daily chemical top up.
But hey it’s not there fault and as we was only there 4 days and we had use for the three days I’m fine with that plus we didn’t bring it to there attention.
Close to the beeches for coastal walks.
Can’t comment on the bar or restaurant as we didn’t use them but from looking in it looked nice .
Again never used the spa either so can’t comment.
I could nt fault the stay and truly would be a summer wedding venue with the views .
Loved it and we will return in the summer again .

Dear Miss Snodgrass and Mr Kenyon, Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with us. I must say, we have been waiting for this especially after your outburst in the office, when you made a lovely girl cry - completely unacceptable behaviour by anyone's standards. From the moment you checked in, until your rude outburst you couldn't thank us enough for the service and compliment us on the rooms and establishment. We went out of our way to ensure we met your needs and requests, even when we weren't strictly open. Such as when we opened the bar to serve you drinks throughout the day. You even joined our family for drinks on the first night and the compliments were flowing. You requested your room to be refreshed, which we went to do, but on arrival to your room, you had left two dogs in there, unattended. This had failed to be mentioned to us - we do have a strict policy about leaving dogs alone in the room and under no circumstances would we enter a room where animals had been left as it could be distressful to both parties. Because of this, we were unable to carry out the re-fresh. We offer our guests & their pets accommodation but we are not boarding kennels. Reception contacted you to inform you that we couldn't carry out the re-fresh until your return. After your returned on-site and one of our housekeeping members had stayed on after his shift had finished we re-freshed your room; cleaning the mud your dogs had soiled the sheets with. After he finished, you offered our staff member numerous alcoholic drinks as a thank you. We would now like to address you point regarding the broken dishwasher and the noise that mending it created. Two workmen arrived before 5pm to fix one of our broken dishwashers, this was before our bar was officially open. They created very minimal noise and caused no disturbance to any other guests. However, you were extremely upset by this and took it upon yourself to come and angrily take it out on a member of staff in reception. A tirade of abuse continued whilst you exited which was heard by numerous staff and customers alike. We feel this was an unacceptable and excessive reaction to a dishwasher being quietly mended. Lastly, you stated in your review that there were no windows, however, for you to access the rear sealed area of your property you had to walk through a patio door and window to get there! Kind regards

This place is beautiful, the scenery and general vibe of the place is so blissful and relaxing which is complimented by the luxury rooms being a perfect place to end and start the day there. With a good range of rooms all being well looked after, My room when I stayed was so good that i was jealous that my room at home isn't half as nice as the one at Cranberries Hideaway. The service is really good as well with caring employees who are always smiling, you can't help but feel welcomed. This is very well accompanied by the wonderful food and drinks with an amazing bar paired with dinner and breakfast to die for.
I see a one star review that had me so confused since i had such a wonderful time and disagree with it all.
I seriously recommend coming here at any occasion you can to experience it for yourself.

My partner and I stayed here a few nights this week for our anniversary, I booked what I thought was an apartment style room with a kitchen/dining room, got there and booked the wrong thing due to an extremely misleading website, had no kitchen, literally was a room with a bed, mini fridge, kettle and bathroom. So all the food we bought couldn't be used due to there being no microwave/oven (which it said we would have on the website). We were told we could move rooms the day after however no one got back to us. We stayed in the Hawkchurch room, our bathroom had a funny metalic type smell throughout, as did a blanket on our bed, the carpets were dirty, missing grouting between the tiles on the bathroom floor and kept stubbing my toes, lots tiles on the bathroom wall were cracked, patchy/unfinished looking paintwork on the back wall, ripped fabric at the end of the bed, and 'fresh' milk which we were given fell out of its jar in lumps. The bar and restaurant always looked as if they were shut. The reception was never manned we would have to call if we needed anything, which was a pain having to do each time, and sometimes even having no answer. On top of this, yesterday we got back to the room ready to watch the England game, and we couldn't get in, our key didn't seem to let us in as the door locked in a funny way, leaving us to call maintenance to break into our room for us. We wandered to try and have a drink in the bar while we waited, which didn't seem to be open (this was 4:45pm) the game started at 5 and we hoped to watch it there, but also didn't seem to be showing it. So we sat in the car to watch it while we waited an hour for our room to be ready again. The scenery and the buildings outside were gorgeous, can't fault it. I don't often complain like this however it was almost £400 for 3 nights away which absolutely didn't meet standards, you just expect everything to be perfect when spending so much. Splashing out also isn't something we often do, however it was a special occasion for us, and was out first post- Covid holiday. But was extremely disappointing for us both :(

Dear Kelly, Thank you for your time in writing this review. On our booking system it is very clear which type of room you are booking. When you choose to book the room and property type there is a description that explains exactly what is included with the property. All of our thousands of other guests have managed to perform this without any difficulty. We are very sorry that you found it misleading but the descriptions are very clear. You thought you booked one of our self-catering facilities, but as you admitted you booked the wrong room so we can clearly not be blamed for the lack of facilities in the room which you booked and paid for. Even though, the room you booked still came with a full fridge so there was no reason for your food to be ruined as this could have been stored there. The owner, out of his good will offered to upgrade you to one of our 6 bedroom barns that was currently not in use. He spoke to you at the bottom of the stairs on your second day, you were both present, and informed you that if you came back later in the day we would happily move your room. You did not turn up to either the reception or the bar area and restaurant. We are unsure where the metallic smell could have come from as there doesn't seem to be this problem currently. The blanks on the bed are laundered freshly but if you had a problem and reported it we would have immediately responded to it. It is impossible to respond to an issue from a review after the stay. The carpet has one burn mark from heat tongs which a previous client burnt through the carpet, this is something that will be addressed but doesn't cause any problem. As for the grouting, this is something we are working on but at 100% occupancy at the moment and grouting requiring 24 hours this is very difficult to perform, however, we find it difficult to believe that you stubbed your toe as the tiles are flat. The milk is given fresh on check-in and stays fresh in the fridge unless left out in the heat. Fresh milk is available from either our bar and restaurant area. The bar and restaurant is open from 9 every morning and so we are unsure where this point has come from. During your stay we were doing many covers throughout this time. The reception is manned every day until 6pm so again we are unsure where this has come. As for the door we can only apologise as there seemed to be a fault with the lock which as soon as you reported this, maintenance came to solve this. It is a shame that other points that you raised you did not report as we could have solved those as well. The bar was open but we do not have a license to show football and do not advertise live events. It is just a bar for people to relax and enjoy themselves. You did not however have to wait an hour as our maintenance men finish at 5 but stayed on and clocked out at 5:20. You paid £365 which is an average rate for accommodation in Devon. We have not increased our prices, unlike others, to capitalise on staycations and again we cannot be held responsible for the fact that you booked the wrong room - mistaking it for a self-catering apartment. We do hope however that you did enjoy your trip to Devon and we would welcome you back in the future.

I'll start by saying that 3 stars is harsh on the owners and staff, who were very accomodating, helpful and friendly.
We stayed in the wagon shed, which is a beautiful converted barn. The view is incredible, the hot tub is perfect and there's plenty of room inside and out. The frustrations are:
The Aga just didn't work. We let it heat up, our food remained cold. Staff at the cranberries helped us out with cooking the food so top marks to them
Induction hob had no pans to use, so it was useless
The BBQ which we rented for £45 an evening was sub standard. It was just a grill sat on a gas flame. Definitely not worth the money and couldn't fit enough food on to feed how many the barn is intended for
The cushions were grubby and smelt odd. It generally didn't have a clean feel to the lounge area
No middle blind in the family room, we had to put in a makeshift light blocker to sleep and get changed
Fans didn't work in some rooms, the family room didn't even come with a fan
The lights were inadequate in the family room, didn't provide anywhere near enough light

As I said, we had a great a trip and the above certainly didn't ruin anything, there are just small frustrations. If you're staying in the wagon shed, I would recommend not cooking at the barn

Dear Zack, thank you so much for your review. We are so pleased you found our staff to be accommodating and enjoyed the location and the barn. We would like to firstly address that the Aga was in fully working order and has been used since you left. As you were shown there is only one dial on the Aga which increases the heat to warm the oven and hobs up. Upon inspection when you informed us it was not working, you were shown how to do this and were made aware that it would take up to 45 minutes - 1 hour to warm up. At this point so that you could enjoy your breakfast, our on-site chef cooked and prepared this for you. We apologise that you were disappointed with the BBQ. It is a commercial sized BBQ measuring 1.2m in diameter and we have never received a complaint of this nature before. As with reference to the cushions if this was bought to our attention at the time or anything had been mentioned during your stay these issues would have been addressed. As for the blind we apologise for this but again this was not reported. We have full time maintaince staff that would have been able to mend anything broken. Same with the fans. We use low energy LED lights - to meet our eco-friendly standards. We have never received a complaint surrounding this before, however, we do apologise if you feel the room was too dark. If this is an issue for anybody in the future we will be happy to change the light bulb. We are pleased that despite these complaints you enjoyed the stay but your recommendation for not cooking in the barn has not been an issue for any other guest in the past years or even the people who are presently staying there. If anybody has any concerns regarding the Aga please feel free to talk to a member of staff.

I booked a spa experience here for my daughters and myself, I had booked treatments and afternoon tea as a package for my eldest daughter's birthday treat.
We were about to leave the house 40 minutes before our first treatment time as we had been asked to arrive early, I then received a phone call cancelling our day ! The receptionist was extremely apologetic, she explained that the therapist was absent, the manager had taken the call from her and asked the receptionist to contact us and cancel. I feel very strongly that the manager should have made the call to us and not left it to the receptionist to handle, very poor customer service.
I already had sent two email enquiries previous to our booking which were not acknowledged, I had to enquire by telephone to receive information.
If you are booking the spa to mark a special occasion I wouldn't risk booking here just incase your day is cancelled as you're leaving the house! Book somewhere with plenty of staff with a professional attitude towards their customers.

I want to write a balanced review as we did mostly enjoy our stay, but there were definitely things that didn’t meet our expectations.
The staff were friendly and very accepting of our very young baby.
Would have liked to have been given some info in room about the property, facilities and local area. No info provided about restaurant/bar opening times etc. whether the room got serviced.
The location is pretty and the facade of the buildings is beautiful, but the grounds need a bit of TLC and it’s lacking in much to do in the direct area, you have to visit other towns for decent meals and activities.
The room was clean apart from a lot of animal hair on the black sofa, and cobwebs up high.
The room (family suite) was EXTREMELY hot, the heating wasn’t on and even with the windows open for the full time we were there it was unbearable. Perhaps something to do with the plumbing as the cold water came out boiling for first 2-3 minutes. The fan provided was broken and would only tilt up to the ceiling, it was also filthy covered in dust. Beware of taps in bathrooms as they tend to spray everywhere.
Bed in room is memory foam so very soft and adds to heat issue. Some slats not fixed in place made bed a bit uneven.
Dinner and breakfast were a little disappointing. It felt like poor quality, frozen produce that was microwaved at dinner, and the breakfast sausages were very low quality. Not what we expected after hearing the owner talk about local and homegrown produce. It was well presented . Would have expected to see fruit/pastries/yogurt at breakfast and a menu for the cooked items. Drinks at dinner served without flare, a slice of lemon would have been nice and would have been good to have been given a drinks menu.
The spa, which was part of the draw when booking, is not staffed and therefore you cannot have any treatments.
Plenty of parking short walk from room and good to be able to bring car to drop off outside with lots of baby stuff!

Following my previous stay last year I was very excited to get back to The Cranberries Hideaway.

Again from the moment we arrived to the minute we left we were treated by such kindness by all the staff. Unlike many other hotels that we have stayed in in the past, they took their time to truly get to know you and had such a genuine interest and care. That is something that massively sets Cranberries apart from anywhere else we have been.

The rooms were recently renovated and were absolutely stunning. We stayed in the Family Suite which came with a huge private bath which was great!

We ate in the restaurant every night and had breakfast every single morning. The portion sizes were great and the food was incredible. Again all the restaurant staff were great and really took their time to talk to you.

We are extremely confused by previous recent reviews stating that the tables were not wiped down or cleared because was never the case in the 7 nights we were here. The cleanliness and general upkeep of Cranberries was absolutely spot on and the additional measures they have in place for Covid made us feel extremely reassured. .

We made use of the hot tub on a couple of nights during our 7 night break. This was a perfect way to end the day. We also had treatments from the wonderful spa therapist. These were extremely relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the spa.

Thank you again to everyone at Cranberries. We look forward to returning in November.
