Detailed Reviews
The 'Cabin' in the garden is spacious and remarkably warm and comfortable. It is very well appointed with everything we required. We were fortunate to enjoy good weather for our stay and therefore able to take breakfast in the beautiful landscaped garden which was very relaxing. Judith and Malcolm are excellent hosts - there when you need anything but not interfering with your privacy. The property is directly opposite Sudbury's water meadows providing delightful walks for us and our dog. There is, however, easy access to the town just down the road. All in all, a highly recommended place for a quiet peaceful stay.

Judith was extremely accommodating to our last minute request. What a beautiful place and lots of attention to detail making our stay very comfortable.
Very spacious for a cabin with a little kitchenette if needed. We were only staying overnight.

We stayed at 'The Cabin' last weekend Friday 8th - Sunday 10th July 2011. The name 'The Cabin' is a little misleading as I was expecting just that and not the large house that we arrived at located off the main road. The name comes from the chalet type building located in the large garden of the property which provides self contained accomodation. This B&B also offers accomodation in the main house which is where my family stayed. Myself and partner had a fabulously huge and comfy bed in the 'Garden Room' which as it suggests overlooks the wonderful garden at the back of the property. My parents stayed in the front room which had a marvelous view overlooking the meadow opposite. All very clean and although the 'Meadow Room' did not have en-suite faciliates there was use of the main bathroom which was more than adequate. The only drawback to these rooms are the lack of wardrobes but there are a number of hooks with hangers provided which we found sufficient for the clothes we had brought for the weekend. The breakfasts were the highlight of our stay with a selection of breads, cheeses, cold meats and hard bolied eggs, and we were also offered tasters of raspberries and gooseberries fresh from the garden ... lovely! There is ample parking at the front of the house and 10 minutes walk brings you into the small town of Sudbury. The location provides easy access to the main routes in this part of Suffolk and is not far from the fabulous medieval village of Lavenham which is definately worth a visit.

We stayed in The Cabin for two nights on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It is a lovely cabin, beautifully decorated, everything is new and in good condition, there is plenty of space, it is private and set in the lovely gardens behind the owner's main house so it is very quiet. There is plenty of parking available. The owners were kind and helpful even though Christmas is a family time.
A continental breakfast was provided, although the loaf of bread was stale that was a minor complaint in an otherwise perfect stay.

There are many good reasons to visit Sudbury, a delightful Suffolk town with a remarkable history. As well as being the birthplace of the great artist Thomas Gainsborough, it also houses the head of a 14th century archbishop of Canterbury, has a wonderful little theatre, a wealth of ancient, photogenic buildings, a vibrant market and shopping centre and the River Stour winding a leisurely course through and around the town. Charles Dickens nicknamed the town Eatanswill and refers to it as such in The Pickwick Papers. Sudbury also happens to be the town in which our five children spent their formative years.
Now I’ve found another good reason to go there: The Cabin is a home-from-home guest house overlooking the meadows and the Stour. When we decided to get together again as a family for a weekend and revisit old haunts, it was left to me (as usual!) to find suitable lodgings. My daughter and her fiancé were staying in nearby Lavenham, which prompted the idea in the first place. Trawling the internet for likely hotels and guest houses, I happened on The Cabin’s website and was intrigued. The cabin itself is a self-contained building in the garden of 98 Melford Road and judging by the photos on the site, as well from what we now know, it would be a wonderfully comfortable place to stay. It’s more of a holiday bungalow than a shed! The garden itself is worthy of note, a tranquil haven, beautifully maintained by its owners and part of the whole experience.
I phoned the number given on the website and spoke to Judith Offord, the proprietress, whose friendly and open response made up my mind. I duly booked for five of us.
On arrival, we shot past the house, not paying enough attention to the numbers (strange, considering we used to live only a stone’s throw away). As Melford Road is a main road, we had to take the next left turn in order to turn round. Anyone looking for number 98 (which is clearly marked as such), would be well advised to use a satnav and move quite slowly as they approach, to avoid over-shooting. There is ample parking space on the drive in front of the house.
Our rooms were in the house itself (which is why I can’t comment directly about the cabin). One of them had full en-suite, while the other two had easy access to toilet and shower facilities. Everything was well thought out and had a sense of homeliness and comfort. The beds were good and firm, exactly right for a good night’s sleep, with warm, lightweight duvets. There were tea and coffee making facilities and high quality biscuits provided. Each room has a television, and wi-fi is available free of charge, a great asset in the view of my sons, who can’t live without access to the Internet! (To be fair to them, I’m no better).
Prices were very reasonable (I shall not quote them here as over time prices anywhere are subject to change – but the website is very user-friendly and clearly states current prices).
As well as the bedrooms, guests were able to use the extensive and delightfully bright and comfortable conservatory and the above-mentioned garden.
Breakfast, included in the price, was of the Continental variety. What marked it out as special were the home-made bread and preserves. There was a variety of meats and cheeses, brioches, yoghurts, fruit from the garden and tea and coffee. Everything was beautifully laid out and very high quality. A full English breakfast is an option at an additional cost, though the Continental suited our needs admirably.
What marks The Cabin out particularly is the warmth of the reception we received. Judith and Malcolm Offord have been running their home as a guest house only since the start of 2011 and have obviously “hit the ground running”. They are friendly, very helpful and make every effort to put their guests at ease. This is not something to be taken for granted – I’ve stayed in some guest houses where I felt like an intruder. Here, you are made to feel like a friend.
I would highly recommend anyone looking for a place to stay in the Sudbury area to investigate The Cabin. You won’t be disappointed!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Cabin for a weekend when exploring a bit of Sudbury. The cabin was very comfortable, and perfect for two people. Malcolm and Judith were incredibly accommodating, and we thoroughly enjoyed the homemade bread and homemade cake they supplied us with! The continental breakfast included in the price was excellent, and we really enjoyed the fact that the cabin has a stocked kitchen so we were relatively independent. The cabin is surrounded by a beautiful garden, and we were lucky enough to sit outside and admire it with a coffee. Thank you again for a relaxing weekend.

Arrived in the dark and drove up and down the road a couple of times - there was no visible sign to indicate a B&B, so I was wondering if I was in the right place. Also there was a skip on the drive, where some building work was not quite finished, which was tricky to park around. It would have been good to have warning of that from the owners before we arrived! the cabin in the garden itself however was a pastel painted dream - looked more like a seaside beach hut. Very cozy and warm and tastefully furnished with squishy chairs and a tv. Beds were really comfy. Disappointing breakfast though. Just a couple of choices of cereal, one or two of slices of bread and croissants with a meagre slice of ham in the fridge which was not resfreshed on day two. Having a small kitchenette did not make up for a lack of cooked breakfast in my opinion, unless you brought your own eggs to microwave!! - a lovely relaxed stay in a b&b suitable for twin configuration - of which there are few in Sudbury.

Excellent B&B great room, lovely breakfast, friendly hosts. Fabulous garden. Good price for the area. We were on a 2-night golf break at nearby Stoke-by-Nayland and came a day early to be prepared for golf without a long drive that morning. Half the price of an extra night at the Country Club.

We stayed for two nights bed and breakfast in the house. The owners made us very welcome and we were treated to a tour round their fabulous garden which was full of lovely fresh fruit and vegetables. The lilac room is a spacious room with two easy chairs and a big bed that can be made up as two singles if required. The en suite is big too with a good shower. The window overlooks the garden at the back and the room was very quiet. There are tea bags, coffee and chocolate in the room and free secured wi fi is available with a code to log on.
The bed is very comfortable and the sheets are good quality percale.
The continental style breakfast was very nice with cereal, freshly baked croissants, jam, marmalade, toast, ham or cheese and yoghurt with fresh raspberries from the garden.
All in all a very pleasant experience and we would definitely like to stay here again sometime.
