#5 of 14 B&Bs / Inns in Sudbury
The Lady Elizabeth Bar & Hotel (formally The Black Boy) is situated in the heart of Sudbury overlooking the market square with easy access to the surrounding countryside. Market Hill, the heart of our town, it owes its existence to a 14th century woman of nearby Clare. She was a widow, kin to royalty and ‘lord’ of Sudbury. In Lady Elizabeth de Burgh’s time, Anglo-Saxon Sudbury was an interweaving web of narrow streets, until she invested in an ambitious extension to the east that is now Sudbury’s main trading centre. The open space in front of the church was used by the market stalls. The timber frames within modern shop fronts, and some surviving long, narrow plots are remnants of this 14th century layout which we can still see today. With it's seven en-suite letting rooms it is the perfect place for either a weekend retreat or a relaxing mid week stay; dog friendly rooms are available with prior arrangement. Now serving a full menu and breakfasts. Food serving times are everyday 7am for breakfasts till 12 then till 9pm for main menu. Serving the finest in traditional ales, handpicked wine menu and spirit range. Come and stay and let the new friendly team look after you!

Unfriendly and slow staff. Wouldn’t bother going again. Took ages for drinks even though the bar was empty on a Saturday afternoon. Forgot about orders and just stood chatting. Took 6 minutes to pour a vodka and coke. Seems like customers were an inconvenience

Booking this hotel has been the worst experience of any hotel I have ever booked! They messed up from the very beginning to the very end! We are a wedding party of 8, Four rooms needed four rooms booked…..you’d think? Haven’t got it right from the very beginning, then you think right that’s now all sorted again and I also get an apology plus a discount, I accept that these things happen but what I don’t accept is when they completely cock up again and again, double book one our wedding guests rooms for one of the two nights but won’t cancel the other guests booking is downright disgraceful behaviour from a hotel which has had our bookings for over a year having wedding dates changed due to covid! I’m so angry and upset, they even tried to put the blame on me! Big mistake…….huge!!

Visited for lunch whilst stopping in Sudbury en route to pastures new. The place wasn't too busy and the staff were peasant and welcoming but... ordered a light lunch and after waiting over half an hour and chasing up with Barman ,when it arrived it was not worth the wait. May just have been our bad luck as (some) other lunchers seemed happy. Must do better

Popped in for a fine pint of Tribute and were made to feel very welcome by the bar staff Sadly, the Wokerati have forced the owners to change the name of this pub which owes its history to the nickname of Charles 2nd
