Detailed Reviews
Recently spent 2 nights at the hotel while visiting the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Check in was quick and easy, everything explained to us by a friendly receptionist. The reception building is a short walk from the actual hotel.
We were on the first floor of the hotel, a standard king room overlooking the park. Everything we needed for a short stay was provided, comfortable bed, room safe, tea, coffee and hot chocolate replenished daily, a fridge to keep your drinks cool, and lovely toiletries in the bathroom also renewed each day, A walk in shower in the bathroom and nice large white fluffy towels were provided. Wi fi was also freely available.
Breakfast was served in the Wild's Cafe Bistro which is adjacent to the hotel, an excellent choice of hot cooked breakfast as well as fruit, cereal and yogurts etc.
The hotel is the perfect place to stay if you are visiting the Wildlife Park.

Hotel room is functional and clean, balcony has an okay view(room 128) but impeded somewhat by trees(understand that they’re in an enclosure for animals, just would’ve been nice to be able to see the sunset), small shower head in our room in our room didn’t work and nor did the towel rail. The park itself is lovely and we wanted to go back in but apparently you’re only allowed in after closing if you are sleeping in the campsite, which feels somewhat unfair as our one night cost over £200. Breakfast at the wilds bistro was average but no veggie options for a cooked breakfast, beans were a bit cold and it would’ve been nice if the croissants were warm as well. Some people were a little rude in the evening playing loud music on the balcony, made it a bit less enjoyable, our neighbours were also sticking their heads round and staring into our rooms. Could do with 2 more chairs or waterproof beanbags on the balcony and kids could do with night lights or bedside lamps to read with at night, plenty near our bed but nothing near theirs. Made a big fuss of my son who’s birthday it was at the evolution restaurant, slightly odd though that for a conservation charity they bring ice creams out in cardboard containers. Food was relatively expensive for 4(almost £100) and fairly average BUT the restaurant is so interactive and cool and interesting.

Dear Guest, We have received your feedback for your stay here with us at Hex Hotel. After having only opened our doors to the public back in April 2022, as a team we put a lot of importance on the feedback which we receive from our guests and are constantly looking at ways in which we can develop in order to meet guest expectations. You will be pleased to hear that both the shower and towel rail have been fixed in room 128 and we apologise for any inconvenience which these caused during your stay. Thank you for your other suggestions, we will certainly look into these, and most importantly, thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. We do hope that we can welcome you and your family on another occasion in the future. Kind regards, Vicky | Rooms Division Manager

Took our granddaughters here for one night, the price included the hotel, breakfast and entrance to the zoo. The hotel is beautiful, we booked a family room with a balcony, the girls loved it as they could see the dinosaurs moving from the balcony, we could also hear the animals especially the Sea Lions. The room was beautiful, large tv, fridge and a drinks tray with everything you could possibly want, Yorkshire Tea, Coffee, including decaf, hot chocolate, herbal teas, water and delicious biscuits. The en suite was also beautiful, lots of white fluffy towels. I can honestly say it was the best hotel I have ever stayed in, in the UK. There is a place called the Hive just across from the hotel with shops, entertainment, restaurants, play centre, we booked the Evolution restaurant with its dinosaur theme, the food is very good, huge portions. We can't wait to return, next time we are going to miss the zoo as it was a lot of walking and just use the hotel and Hive. Thank you everyone, we had an amazing break.

We’ve been looking forward to staying here since it opened, but now we have, I’d not be in a rush to return.
We booked the balcony suite, which we were told by staff was the best room in the hotel, with an uninterrupted view of the park. We arrived to discover we were actually directly above the restaurant, with the beer garden below us. There was no privacy on our balcony, as people were in the beer garden looking right up at us. We also got cooking smells wafting in, as well as the noise of the diners and drinkers below us.
We had a small fridge, but the door was broken off the freezer compartment, so it was frosted up. There was a dispenser broken off the wall in the toilet, and other cosmetic damage throughout the suite. The volume on the TV didn’t work, it was either very low or very high. There were no instructions to operate the TV, the heating, or the shower, and none were straight forward. There was no hand soap in the bathroom, just an unhygienic bar of perfumed soap. The wet room style shower leaked under the door. There was no fresh milk, no dressing gowns, no bottled water, in fact no frills at all, yet it cost us £225 for one night. The room was very basic and sparsely furnished. We’re shocked at all the excellent reviews actually.
Breakfast had a good choice but the hot buffet items had been stood too long and were only luke warm.
The location is great, the bed was comfy, we loved hearing the animal sounds after the park closed, so there were positives, but it’s certainly not value for money. We’ve stayed in hotels at half the price which have been more luxurious, and in fact Premier Inns at a tenth of the price which have been better. Would love to go back for the location, but sadly the price and lack of value for money would stop us. We actually feel robbed.

We had two nights at the HEX hotel, with passes to the Wildlife Park included. Everything was very new and clean, the hotel room was great, it even had a fridge and iron & ironing board. My children really enjoyed the bunk beds (top bunk suitable for age 6 and over). The balcony was nice and had a view of the wildlife park, but we didn’t see any animals. My only grip about the room was the noise from the air conditioning, which seemed impossible to turn off. There is only a bean bag to sit on in the room which wasn’t a problem for us but might not suit everyone. The car park is a little way away, so we’ll bring suitcases with wheels next time. Breakfast was in the Wilds Cafe Bistro which had helpful staff and the food was OK, but a limited choice.
We went to the Evolution restaurant both nights where the staff were great - special shout out to our waitress who realised my son was scared of one of the actors dressed as a caveman and kept them away from our table. The food was OK.
Uproar (cost extra) is the soft play area which was large and catered for the full range of ages. Again friendly staff which was a feature of out whole visit.
The Wildlife Park is great, lots of animals to see, with play areas dotted around, best food of the entire visit was at the Safari Cafe. The park is quite big and it’s all on foot but you can hire strollers, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

Whilst the Hotel is modern, I first started at the Hotel for a conference in January. I asked if I could have a bath in my room as I have a bad back and was told it would be an extra £20 a night! However 2 of my colleagues asked and got it for nothing.
I returned today for another conference having pre booked in and asked for a bath on the booking form, again was told on arrival it would be £20 extra a night. When I went through the fact that my colleagues had previously got a bath for nothing and the Hotel was far from fully booked it was still refused.
Obviously if your face doesn't fit in reception you don't get. Very disappointed in the service. Oh and the room is a depressing shade of grey/blue and stinks of smoke.
A chair would be good, no one over the age of 15 is going to sit on a bean bag!!!

Finding our here was a challenge and the instructions didn't tell us to go to reception to get cards for the park It was just luck that we did. The park is excellent and love how they care for the animals. Queues for ice cream were very long with two poor young people trying to manage, whilst in the cafe there were about 6 staff mostly just wandering about. I fancied soup but no soup that day. Hey ho. Lots of queues everywhere for drinks and food. I think they need more staff. It was a very hot day so when we went to check in we were desperate for a shower. Got to our room and it hadn't been made up properly and the bed not changed. It was also very dusty. Credit to reception they came immediately and gave us another room and offered profuse apologies. They told us this wasn't their standard. Sadly the other room was equally dusty, the cups still had tea/coffee stains on, the glasses were marked and hadn't been dried and the sheet had a stain on. There was no soap for the sink either so I used the shower gel. We only noticed this once they had left and we were so hot and tired we couldn't be bothered to ask for a room change again. At least the bed was made. The room overlooked the Tapir and the Bush Dogs so that was nice. We got to see them the next morning. The good news is that the staff are excellent throughout and really try to make your experience good - just a pity housekeeping has let the hotel down. In the evening we had booked the dinosaur restaurant without realising and the guy was very helpful when we got there and instead of just taking us in explained how loud it would be and did we know what we were getting. We didn't, and were very grateful for his tip and went to the Wild Restaurant instead. As I said, great staff. The food in there was lovely. Had breakfast there the next morning and again the staff were very friendly - though they forgot the veggie sausage my wife ordered so she had to wait. It was a lovely breakfast though. All in all the experience left a little to be desired with some bright parts. Park great, staff great, hotel needs some better housekeeping.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking time to leave this feedback from you stay with us and may I take this chance to apologise once again that on this occasion we did not live up to expectation. This is absolutely not the standards which we strive to deliver here at Hex Hotel. Since your stay, the external company which we entrust our housekeeping to have implemented some changes within the department and this has seen a massive improvement in standards. I am glad to hear however, that our reception team were prompt in dealing with your complaint but this never should have happened. We have also made improvements to signage and access to the hotel reception since your stay and we feel that this has improved the experience for our guests. We would not have been able to make these changes had our guests not provided us with their invaluable feedback so again, thank you for taking the time to do so. We hope that we can welcome you again in the future. Kind regards, Vicky | Rooms Division Manager

We stayed here whilst attending a wedding, we didn’t get to look round the park as the weather was dreadful, the hotel itself was amazing, beautiful surroundings, lovely shops ,restaurants and great amenities…
. We booked a suite that was beautifully designed, spacious and clean complete with a safe, fridge and plenty of coffee, tea, galaxy hot chocolate and biscuits, the only reason I didn’t rate 5 stars was the windows didn’t open and it made me feel very claustrophobic …
Tip: Don’t bother booking a park view, all you get to see is other visitors and plastic dinosaurs!!

I am pleased to see you had a lovely time even with the bad weather and that you found the hotel to be prefect for the purpose of your visit. Hopefully we will be able to achieve the 5 star rating on your next visit if you stay in one of our balcony rooms maybe? Really lovely hotel! Check in was very easy, we picked up our park passes from there and checked in. Staff on reception were really friendly. We stayed in a family room, very good size with bunk beds for the kids. The park side balcony was great, we could see and hear the animals. Rooms well stocked with teas, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits and the bathroom had lovely spa products in it. We ate on the restaurant, great value and the evening meal was excellent, as was the breakfast.

Just returned from an overnight stay and can’t praise the place enough. We wanted to visit the park for the first time and being over 2 hours from home we chose to stay overnight and on site saved on travelling and enabled us to eat at the complex and not have to drive. The room and bed and breakfast including access to the park for one day was a great price and form the second we arrived we could just relax and enjoy the surroundings. The room itself was lovely. Lucky enough to get a park view room and it was all new and modern and a great selection of teas and coffees. Staff lovely and would recommend. Balcony room next time for sure.
