Detailed Reviews
We chanced across Barry & Jens’ piece of Co. Kerry paradise as a base for a few days exploring Kenmare and the surrounds.
We couldn’t have hoped for a more well appointed place to call our (brief) home, complete with two attentive and welcoming hosts.
As luck would have it the weather was wonderful for the entirety of the stay, and recommendations of local walks and local haunts were shared over superb breakfasts; alongside the chance, come the afternoon, to just sit back and enjoy a picturesque view from their gardens with a glass of red from the honesty bar to watch the stars start to emerge across the evening sky.
Our room was beyond comfortable, quiet, and spotlessly clean, a stay at Valhalla cannot come more highly recommended.

We chose this location to be in the heart of the ring of Kerry however off the tourist locations!
This was a perfect and definitely the right choice . Barry and Jens are the most wonderful hosts , make you feel at home at their impeccable bed and breakfast with only 4 guest rooms.
This creates a lovely atmosphere and with current Corona restrictions in place one feels safe and good all the time. The rooms are each in a different colour scheme and beautifully done , super clean and with a lovely touch to detail. Breakfast is served a la carte and with a large selection of different things (incl. freshly grown berries from the garden) .
A joint living room is available for their guests and the house overlooks the beautiful scenery with a magnificent garden ! I’m ready to return.. many thanks Barry & Jens for your hospitality!

Barry & Jens are the perfect warm & welcoming hosts who tended to our every need- from insider tips on making the most of the wonderful area they live in to sending us off on our early start day trips with take away coffees and homemade cake.
Theirs is a beautiful home and garden where you breakfast with spectacular views and have full use of their living room making for a real home from home experience.
The tasteful rooms are fully equipped with all necessities from coffee/tea making facilities to international plugs. It’s the ideal place to stay for a Ring of Kerry trip.

Where I do I even begin? Barry and Jens made us feel very welcome and made us feel at home straight away. The location is fantastic yet very peaceful with only 10 minutes driving to the town of Kenmare. The rooms are splendid and everything you need is right there. My partner and I are both vegan and Barry and Jens didn't know from the start, but once they figured it out, they went out of their way to give us a fantastic vegan breakfast. On top of it all, they baked us a delicious vegan cake. We are looking forward to staying with them again.

I can't say enough good things about our stay here with Barry and Jens. They were fairly perfect hosts. They were very professional while being warm and engaging. It felt like being welcomed into someones home while being a surprisingly luxurious experience all at the same time. It is incredibly clean and well furnished. The bedroom, guest sitting room and breakfast spaces were beautiful and interesting with a gorgeous view over Kenmare Bay and the Beara peninsula beyond. A 3-course breakfast was really well presented and delicious. Lots of local knowledge if you want it. Easy drive to good restaurants in Kenmare. It is on a large property well away and up a hill from the road. It was refreshing to be away from the town and anyone else but 10 min drive to town when needed. We only stayed two nights but more would be ideal. It is right on the Ring of Kerry drive and a perfect central location to do easy day trips for Ring of Kerry, Beara peninsula, and Killarney National Park. We stayed as part of a longer road trip but there is great advantage to staying one place and doing day trips versus moving from place to place. This is the perfect location to base yourself out of for a few days of exploring by car. Wishing you both all the best and hope to return some day.

We were very lucky to be able to be a guest of Jens and Barry as part of our tour of Ireland. Rarely have we been so pampered as in this fantastically located B&B. Valhalla is just outside Kenmare and is a great base for the Ring of Kerry or the Ring of Beara. It is very cozy and at the same time very tastefully decorated. Some of the rooms offer incredible views over the bay. All rooms are modern and extensively equipped, even USB charging sockets are available. On arrival we also had a wonderful welcome with all sorts of treats and drinks. The beds are just perfect, rarely have we slept so well. We can also only rave about the breakfast. The night before you can choose from a large list what you want to eat and in the morning a lovingly prepared breakfast awaits you. You just notice everywhere how much Jens and Barry like to host. And the two also always have an open ear for the wishes of the guests and many ideas for the day. Thanks to their tips, we spent a very special day at the Ring of Kerry. Unfortunately we were only 2 nights here. But should we Trips back to Ireland, this B&B will definitely be our go-to place. Thanks to you for the great time !

We stayed three nights with out hosts Jens and Barry. Their house and gardens were spectacular. Lovely large comfortable room with gorgeous views, very comfortable bed,and great shower. The breakfast was delicious and fresh, plenty to choose from. Jens baked a lovely tasty cake offered to us each day, lovely touch and kept us going for that mid day snack. The house is situated in a beautiful spot not too far to the town for dinner and shopping. The house is only a short drive away to some of the most spectacular sites Our hosts were friendly and helpful they gave us great advice about where to visit and dine. We would highly recommend Valhalla to others and hope to make another visit to them next year.

We've been staying at lots of B&B's before, but our stay at Valhalla left us speechless. Barry and Jens are outstanding hosts. The room was very comfy and in a superb condition. The room was fitted with passion like the whole house.
The breakfast was served with love for detail and was very very tasty. And the Cookies...you must try ! If you don't want them at breakfast you'll get them for take away.
Yes and not to be forgotten : The Scenery ! Valhalla lies embedded in a beautiful scenery with view at the Beara Peninsula. You will be good advised to get tips for your exploration of The Ring of Kerry from Barry and Jens. We visited places you won't find in Ireland Guides ! Outstanding .
Thanks for Your Hospitality !
Unfortunately we only stayed for 3 nights...guess we have to come back.

We loved this BnB. The views from the room were incredible, even on the rainy day which happened to be the case when we arrived. It was a short stay for us but the room had everything we needed and the house was impeccable. Hosts were very nice and gave us tips on Kenmare pubs, which turned out to be accurate. Breakfast was great, especially home made jams.
It is few km from Kenmare so keep it in mind if you are looking for something that is walking distance from the pubs. We would definitely come back if visited Ireland in the future.

Where to start!? It is difficult, if not impossible to express just how amazing our stay with Barry and Jens was! First, the location is just perfect...Quiet and private, yet close to Kenmare and Sneem for great food, touring, shopping, and nightlife. Plus, the location is on the Ring of Kerry. Next, from the moment we drove up the driveway, we were in awe of both the home as well as the views of the surrounding countryside and the Kenmare bay. Still recovering from the views around us, we were greeted by Barry and Jens and welcomed to their home. They took great care to show us to our rooms, while explaining the property and what was available.
Our breakfast was probably the best breakfast we have ever had at any hotel or BnB, and it was served by Barry and Jens, while we soaked in the beautiful view of Kenmare Bay. After breakfast, Barry had prepared directions including a map, of the sights we were hoping to see while there. Their recommendations and the map, took us everywhere we wanted to see, including an Amazing chocolate shop along the way!
I could go on and on, but suffice to say, our stay was nothing short of amazing, thanks to Barry and Jens, and their beautiful home. The ONLY regret we have is that we didn't have longer to stay...but we are already planning our next stay, and can't wait to visit Barry and Jens again.
