Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From the moment you drive in you know you are going to be able to switch off and relax. Check-in was friendly and hassle free. Our family room was spacious and well appointed. Bath and shower and lovely views. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. The pool is lovely, very generous size, there is also a Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Although the Hotel was very busy, it did not feel overcrowded at any stage. We walked the lovely grounds on search of the dolmen. Dinner in the restaurant was the highlight of our stay. Pauline was fabulous and a pleasure to deal and the food was to die for. Amazing flavors and presentation. The snack courtesy of their Executive Chef Ray was really tasty. Special thanks to Karen and Thomas for their hospitality.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you so much for your taking the time to review your recent stay at the hotel. We are delighted that you enjoyed all the facilities of the hotel including our beautiful grounds and that you discovered the Proleek Dolmen which is located just off our golf course. I will pass on your very kind comments to Pauline who served you in the Proleek Restaurant as well as to Ray and his team in the kitchen. We hope to welcome you back again to the hotel in the very near future. Kind regards, Karen Watters General Manager

We had one night away with my in laws in Ballymascanlon House. Our rooms were lovely and we were very kindly checked in early. The lunch in the terrace bar was just average. My sandwich had packet ham which was disappointing and it was presented with a tiny bit of lettuce on the side. The leisure centre was ok. However the evening meal was really good. The setting is just fabulous. Breakfast was excellent too. Beds were comfortable and room was clean and warm. All in all pretty good.

The Ballymascanlon is the ultimate Wedding venue. We got married there on New Year's Eve. The food was exceptional, the venue was splendid and the staff were fantastic. Every one of our guests (over 200) praised the food as well as the staff who could not do enough for everyone. The accommodation matches the other exceptional standards exhibited at the Ballymascanlon and the facilities are excellent. Whether you need a Wedding venue, a place to stay or a great meal, this is the ideal place. I want to thank Andrea, Karen, Fiona, Mery and the rest of the team who represent what professional, superb hospitality is all about. The perfect venue for whatever you need. I could not recommend the Ballymascanlon enough.

Just returned from a two night stay at this hotel with friends. This is our fourth time at the hotel and we have always enjoyed the facilities which is why we return. Excellent staff throughout the hotel who cannot do enough for you. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was absolutely devine and the level of service from our servers was excellent. We’ve had dinner in this restaurant before and it’s always been good , but the restaurant has been refurbished and the food, staff and decor have gone up several levels - it was really quite impressive. The bedrooms are plain but pleasant and the beds large and comfortable. Would recommend a few days at the hidden gem of a hotel

Staff member walked into my room while I was naked. Absolutely horrified. They Never knocked. Manager offered complimentary lunch like I wanted to stay after that. I was absolutely degraded and so embarrassed to the point I was crying at the reception desk. Not much empathy or understanding they didn't really care. I asked for a refund and left. My First and last experience here . Really awful

Dear Aisling, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience of the hotel. Please accept my sincere apologies and also those of the female member of staff who walked into your room whilst you were in a state of undress. I understand how upsetting & distressing this was for you and it should never have happened. The housekeeping team have since been retrained in the procedure of entering a guest bedroom to ensure that this doesn't happen to any other guest. If you would like to contact me to discuss this further my email address is karen.watters@ballymascanlon.com Kind regards, Karen Watters General Manager

Eating in the bar was a shambolic exercise from beginning to end. Not only were orders utterly screwed up and miscommunicated, but the food was bland and insipid. Service was paltry and piecemeal, and apologies were profuse. A deeply unfortunate experience, not to be repeated.

I brought my 86 year old sister for a meal in the bar restaurant. The waitress cleared the table but did not clean the table. I asked for table to be cleaned and a sullen young man cleaned the table. I asked young waitress with glasses to take our order she did not attend to us had a table to clean and had an order of drinks to fulfil. She eventually gave us menus. Two other parties arrived after us and had their order taken. I called the waitress with glasses and pointed out we had been there before the others but no one had taken our order. She aggressively took our order and removed our menus proceeding to place them up at the desk she was aggressive and was quite annoyed with us. Very unprofessional for Ballymacscanlon hotel. Our experience was one of being very poorly treated and not what we were used to under the Quinn family management. I was so sorry that I brought my 86 year old Sister for a treat to what turned out to be a discrimatory experience for older people..

We had an amazing stay over Christmas for a very special birthday on Christmas day. There was a large party of us which included children. We arrived to an amazing hamper, the children got a selection box and a voucher for Smyths too! The staff were absolutely amazing! They could not do enough for us and nothing was too much! The spa facilities were fantastic and going swimming on Christmas Day was a bonus. The food was delicious and we even had live entertainment Christmas Eve and day! It was one of the best Christmas days we’ve had and a special birthday was made even better by such a great stay! Thank you so much to everyone at the Ballymac!
