6 of us stayed here on our second night of cycling the c2c, it was the best accommodation of the trip, comfy beds, lovely room, very clean. Good cooked breakfast, good evening meal and reasonably priced.

If you are looking for a little place to get away from it all for a few days then this is the place for you. My husband and I recently stayed at the Miners Arms in Nenthead for two nights. The room had three single beds with an en-suite bathroom. The decor was very well co-ordinated, modern and comfortable. The bathroom was extremely spacious with underfloor heating and a lovely shower cubicle. You could tell it had been well thought out. The breakfast - which was next door in the pub - was plentiful and varied and we were asked what time we would like our breakfast served! The owners of the Miners Arms looked after us very well and we ate there as well in the evening. Once again there was a varied menu with plenty of home cooked food. Delicious! Also, the music was brilliant! We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

We recently stayed at the Miners Arms, the room was very nice, bathroom with walk-in shower, heated flooring was excellent. Breakfast was excellent good choice of cereals, yoghurt and fruit plus the cooked breakfast was lovely. Evening meal was very good as well home cooked food. Plus go 5 minutes down the road and have a look at the model village that a local man has built it is brilliant what he has done.

Although we didn't stay overnight we stopped off for lunch having been attracted by the prospect of Allison's "award winning" pie. I had a pint of the real ale IPA which was fine, my wife a glass of wine also acceptable. At half 12 were the only ones in the place, the conservatory dining area was hot and stuffy, we decided to eat in the bar. The menu is on boards on the conservatory wall and sure enough featured the pie. I had tomato & mozzarella salad starter and my wife the wild mushroom soup followed by two mains of the award winning pie.

My starter was bland but edible but my wife's soup came out of the packet luke warm with lumps. A comment about the poor soup to the waitress/barkeeper gave her a face like a slapped bottom for the rest of the time we were there. The much vaunted pie turned out a dissapointment as we were treated to an uncombined portion of sliced sausage and egg in a pastry crust served with not so nice chips and salad. The waitress did ask if we'd like anything else? My wife said "a smile".

We left after paying for all items including the soup ( no quarter given there); as we left the waitress was in conversation with a local guy who'd come in, telling him she wanted a better job than this. Dream on we agreed.

The loo's in the bar are poor and the whole bar area looks as if it wants a clean, the cats seem to live there.

After seeing good reviews on Tripadvisor, we were looking forward to eating here but all four of us were quite disappointed. There was little choice, just 2 starters, 3 non-veggie main courses and 2 deserts on a Thursday evening. The food was well cooked but presented without any finess. The dining room was dim (it was nearly dark before the lights were switched on) and the waitress was nervous and quite abrupt. Not an enjoyable evening out.

We arrived here in a cold rain after an extremely taxing day on the coast to coast cycle route. The room was perfect - very nicely done out with a large bathroom and fantastic shower, and the best toiletries I've ever seen anywhere. The pub itself is really lovely and the meals are great. Tasty and extremely good value. There's also a good choice. Alison, the owner, is really pleasant and helpful, and I appreciated the obvious effort she was going to with supporting local charities and also the environment. It's an excellent route stop for anyone doing anything active although frankly a great place for anyone looking for a stay in this part of the Pennines.

Our group of 5 stayed at The Miners Arm during our C2C cycle ride. After underestimating the hill climbs on route to Nenthead we arrived late, tired, hungry and thirsty.

We were made to feel very welcome and shown to the two fantastic B&B rooms. Newly refurbished to an excellent standard they were both well equipped and very comfortable. After a blast in the shower, having made use of the excellent toiletries provided, we went through to the pub in search of sustenance. As we were so late the kitchen staff had gone home but the landlady, Alison didn't let us down. She had thoughtfully kept some food available and fed all five of us hungry cyclists a hearty slap-up meal which was delicious and followed by the best treacle pudding and ice cream I've ever had (sorry Mum). This was then all washed down with good beer while we relaxed in the cosy and friendly bar by the log burner.

After a good nights sleep the breakfast was also excellent.

I would not hesitate in recommending a stay at the Miner's.

I can't speak highly enough of the Miners - the rooms and food are excellent but it is the fantastic staff who really make it such a joy to stay at. I used to work in Alston and now regularly stay at the Miners Arms when visiting friends in the area. I've now stayed there 4 or 5 times and every one has been an absolute joy. The location is fantastic and makes getting around Alston Moor easy. I have stayed in both the twin and triple room and both are fantastic - I would absolutely agree with other reviewers who have said that they are of an exceptionally high quality and so good you would think that you are in a 5* hotel. They feel homely and are well-equipped with coffee and tea-making facilities and the beds have to be the most comfortable I have ever slept in! The bathrooms are also lovely and come with underfloor heating and walk-in showers. Toiletries are also provided. The breakfast in the mornings is fantastic and there is a huge selection of food and drinks available. The portions are extremely generous and the landlady is always happy to cook requests or adapt the menu.

Although the food and rooms are great, it is the warm, friendly staff who make the Miners my stay of choice in Nenthead, and in particular Alison, the landlady. Alison is incredibly friendly and goes the extra mile for you. She's always willing to have a chat even though she probably has thousands of other things she needs to do and I have become friends with her after staying only a few times. She is really engaged with the local community and will give you advice on what to do during your stay etc. it is largely due to how excellent she is that I continue to stay at the Miners. The other staff are also fantastic and an evening spent in the bar with the warm and friendly locals and staff is a pleasure.

I really could not disagree more with the only negative review of the Miners - they simply cannot have stayed at the same place I have because I have always had a wonderful stay and could not recommend it highly enough.

We stayed for 1 night while riding the c2c. The Inn is right on the route and in an ideal location to stop. The room was much better than expected, the breakfast cooked for us out our time of choosing and dinner home cooked with a great selection. There is also a large playground straight opposite.

What made the Miner's Arms stand out was them washing and drying our cycling clothes. No other place on the route would do this small favour for us...and they did not even charge. That really made a difference.
