Enjoyed 2 nights here on a clean and comfortable room. The food was excellent and so was the choice. I had chicken Balmoral cooked perfectly.Decor and cleanliness throughout the hotel was very good. Our room gave easy access with our dog and even included dog bowl and biscuits and a towel for her too. Well thought out thank you. We recommend anyone to stay here.

I always write a review if the place is really bad but this time i thought i need to tell everyone how good this place is! The staff couldnt be any nicer. So friendly. The food is absolutely amazing and so cheap. Beautiful dinning and breakfast area. The rooms are nice and clean. There is only 2 things i would say that would make this place perfect. Put some wifi extenders around as there is no or very little coverage in the rooms and also change the size of the tvs. Far too small. Other than that i would definitely stay here everytime i have to work up this way. Its bad enough having to work away but it makes it that much easier when you have places like this.

Thanks

The carvery was good value and apparently it as much as you can eat. I know this because I witnessed a 'carer' in there with her charge who surely must have eaten as much as they could. They then proceeded to plunder the sweet trolley into polysyrene trays to take home with them.

Spending our holiday cash in Scotland to help support our economy. The hotel offers great food and drink at great prices. We enjoyed a few meals here during our stay in Castletown. The hotel was in the middle of a revamp, but we couldn't have been made more welcome and felt very safe. The staff were brilliant! Besides being friendly and helpful, they were very careful in carrying out all the extra cleaning and checks needed at this time. Highly recommended. Always book early though.

Booked very last minute to stay here and was thoroughly pleased that they still had availability. Easy to find and only a 15 minute drive from John o'Groats. We parked on street and it was very straight forward. Staff were friendly enough, check in was pleasant.

Room was OK. Didn't expect the ritz so it was adequate. However, I must say that the sofa in our room did smell a little peculiar to say the least, so if I were to give any feedback, please consider inspecting and perhaps deep cleaning or just replacing the sofas.

Breakfast was pleasant, although £10 is a bit steep when it wasn't made fresh to order. But given the COVID circumstances, I was pleased they had a hot breakfast on.

Overall, certainly nothing special. I paid £100 for the room and to be honest, I don't think it's great value for money as I'd rather a Premier Inn for that price, BUT given the location, being in the sticks, fair enough.

Faultless from arrival and once we ate in restaurant it has to be questioned how this magnificent hotel is only 3stars,. Meals are top class in quantity, quality and value with the fish and chips being the best I've ever eaten. Actually queried the bill as seemed to cheap cut all correct, staff were attentive without bothering you. Room spotless and comfy and would recommend to anyone

Booked an evening meal as we were visiting the area. Covid measures very well done, good social distancing etc. Very pleasant staff, restaurant a bit stark and bare some pictures on wall or curtains would make it a more welcoming atmosphere. Having said that the food was pretty good. The haggis crepe was tasty and very filling, didn't need the fried potatoes. The deconstructed prawn cocktail was generous and flavoursome. I have to say my rib eye steak was the best I have been served in a long time - this man knows how to source and cook meat. This meal was only let down by the lack of 'proper' chips and not enough whisky in the sauce! Anyone who can cook meat to that standard aught to have a menu full of the stuff! Fewer choices, less deep fried options - actually slightly smaller portions - and this place would be perfect!
Thanks for a great steak!

Have just been to the Castletown Hotel, for a Sunday Carvery with our family and it was just brilliant! We all thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn't fault a thing. Would highly recommend to anyone that has never been before.
Fantastic choice for starters, main and desserts, everything was delicious, home made and top quality. What a great selection of vegetables and accompaniments to the four different roasts and everything was piping hot. Last but not least the staff are brilliant, so friendly and helpful, Janet and Emma are outstanding, well done, keep up the great work.

We were here for three nights on a coach tour of Scotland.
On arrival reception were all ready and it took very little time to get to our room and luggage was delivered promptly.
Our room overlooked the main street and if the window was open, you could hear the traffic although it wasn’t a busy road. With window closed, noise was minimal and we were never woken by traffic noise. The room was clean, functional, beds comfortable, enough storage space.
Food was always good, freshly cooked and tasty. Breakfast was buffet although any special request was usually met.
Bar prices were very reasonable.
The staff were excellent, especially those in the restaurant. They were well organised, were able to answer questions, they were friendly and cheerful which makes such a difference.
