Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have just spent a couple of days in the well-situated Primrose Cottage, and will certainly return. Helen and Richard provide everything you could want or need - from fresh scones, jam and cream on arrival to comfortable beds and ground coffee for breakfast. Within easy reach of both the north Devon and Cornish coasts this is a great place to stay to explore the area.

Situated in stunning gardens ,these two cottages are exquisitely presented inside and out. Everything you could possibly need for a comfortable, relaxing holiday is at hand. Well situated to explore Devon and Cornwall. The tarka trail is nearby and you can walk for miles if you want too. Very good pubs serve reasonably priced meals and beer. The Union at, Stubbs cross is exceptional. Friendly staff serve hot filling pub grub. The owners of the cottages are really nice people and, very approachable. I give these cottages 5 because they deserve the highest accolade.
Thanks for a great holiday Jenny and Richard.

We had a very relaxing stay at Oak Tree footage in september. The cottages are exceptionally well cared for with everything you could possibly need. The Devon Cream Tea provided on our arrival was delicious too. We will very much hope to visit again soon

Probably one of the best cottage we have ever rented in the UK. The hosts were friendly, pleasant and helpful. There was everything we need for our stay and the location was set in the most beautiful country side. You wont be disappointed with your stay here.

Absolutely wonderful place to stay. Spacious, spotless and has everything you need on a few days away or longer. Met with both Helen and Richard the owners who are superb hosts. We will book to stay here again when visiting family next time. 5 star accommodation, 5 star hosts.

I could have simply said, "Home from home." and left it at that because those few words encapsulate Petrock Holiday Cottages. Without a doubt, the best self-catering accommodation in which we have ever stayed.

One would never guess that at one time the properties were a barn as they look as though they have always existed as domiciles, the conversion is that good.

Whilst the stone-built exterior is reminiscent of the heritage of many Lancashire towns the interiors are completely modern. We stayed in Bailey Cottage but I assume the basic layout will be pretty similar in each of them. Large living/dining room and kitchen on the ground floor with 2 bedrooms (one en-suite) and a bathroom. Modern, tasteful decor throughout and unbelievably well appointed, central heating, the kitchen being fully fitted with every conceivable appliance and utensil one could need. As my wife said within minutes of our arrival, "You could live here." and she was absolutely right as always. Additionally, cereals, eggs, milk, tea, coffee(need I go on?) were provided for us along with books, dvds, games and of course free wi-fi. Ideal if, for whatever reason, you choose to stay in during the day or relax in the evening. Thee are full instructions to help you recycle so you can feel self-righteous

The cottages are in Newton St. Petrock and A mile to the east of the village are the earthwork remains of Durpley Castle, a medieval motte-and-bailey castle which probably explains the naming of each property.

Whilst Newton St Petrock itself has little to offer the tourist, its proximity to Bude, Clovelly, Westword Ho and Bideford; King Arthur's Tintagel is within an hour's drive, Exeter a little over an hour and the whole of Devon and Cornwall to explore if you wish.

I can say little more than, when I next happen to be in the area, this is where I will be staying

Lovely little touches and super peaceful. I particularly liked the owls talking to each other at night! The cottage was spotless and cozy and the hosts, Richard and Helen couldn't do enough for us during our stay.

Stayed here for a week to enable our son to attend Rowden Atelier Woodworking School nearby and our other son to visit Falmouth University. Excellent base for our purposes. Cottage was clean, tidy and thoughtfully prepared. Please note that although the Wi-fi is fast there is no mobile reception if you are on O2 network (apparently only EE network workable). We managed using Google Meet and so had any essential calls over the wi-fi. In correspondence before arrival Helen was responsive and helpful. We arranged for a Waitrose shop to be delivered just after arrival as Waitrose store not too far away. Worked out really well and enabled us to get most of the week's supplies without spending time in a supermarket after a very long journey. Coastline accessible, though narrow lanes make challenging driving - at least they did for our two sons (one still learning and one only recently passed)! Overall, if you need a good base for the week's course at Rowden or a quiet location with friendly & helpful hosts (Helen & Richard) then Primrose cottage is an excellent choice and we would certainly use again, if needed.

Having never visited this part of the Country before we decided now was a good time for a short break.
We booked into Petrock Holiday Cottages for our stay and It was simply delightful! The surprise Devon cream tea - was both delicious and most welcome!
The hosts Helen and Richard made us very welcome and were more than happy to point out various places of interest to visit.
The cottage we stayed in was very clean, with a really well fitted out kitchen including dishwasher and a washer/dryer should you feel the need.
Towels and bed linen were immaculate. As were the bathrooms. A constant supply of hot water in the showers did not go a miss!
There was so many places of interest to visit we are planning to return in September this year and yes we have already booked our stay in Petrock holiday cottages!
Thank you Helen and Richard
