Homewood Hotel garners acclaim for its impeccable cleanliness and festive atmosphere, though some guests find the music choices and noise levels less appealing. The rooms are celebrated for their spaciousness and luxury, despite occasional maintenance issues.
Service at Homewood is generally applauded for being attentive, yet a handful of visitors have experienced lapses in promptness. While the spa and location receive high marks for their indulgence and convenience, the value proposition is questioned by guests who perceive the pricing as steep.

From the moment we entered the foyer, all of the staff made us and our dogs feel so welcome and special. Our room was absolutely huge, with a super king bed and large, comfy sofa, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything we needed. The Smeg coffee machine and luscious toiletries in our bathroom were much appreciated. Our dogs each had their own bed with dog bowls and a lovely box of treats.
The hotel is free roaming for dogs, and it was great to be able to take them with us to the restaurant or bar in the evening. The grounds have plenty of space for them to exercise, including an agility course. If you want to go further afield, a guide for a suggested walking route is provided in the room and at reception.
We dropped our girls at the onsite doggy daycare on our second day, so that we could enjoy an afternoon in the spa. They were well looked-after, and we got to spend some time relaxing without worrying about them being left alone in the hotel room. More 'dog-friendly' hotels should offer this service!
We ate at the hotel restaurant, Olio, for breakfast and dinner. The portions are generous, tasty, and very well-presented. The restaurant decor is gorgeous, but we look forward to returning in better weather when we can hopefully enjoy the romantic outside dining area. A drink in front of the log fire in the bar or relaxing in the hotel lounge was the perfect way to end an evening.

Overall enjoyed our overnight at Homewood. Spa was lovely and really enjoyed the outside space. Room was well designed with high quality extras (hairdryer, coffee machine, etc). However, bed was rock hard and the food was rather disappointing, sauces lacking flavour and poor quality bread at breakfast.

Amazing hidden gem close to where we live, can’t believe we’ve never been here before! Amazing place, quirky and tranquil, just a little let down by the service.
We were due to a weekend in Monaco for our 20th anniversary but the flights were cancelled so booked into here because it had an outside pool and we were due 30 degree weather.
Only room available was one in the old house. Lovely but with painted shut windows we struggle on the first night even with two fans. Reception staff were amazing in finding us a room in the newer part with opening windows and even moved our luggage for us.
I generally struggle to relax on a short break but lying by the outside heated pool on a hot day was blissful. Even better the next day when it was raining and quiet, and we had loungers in the heated glasshouse by the pool.
Overall was very impressed. Everything was thoughtfully and tastefully put together, the food was nice with good value portion sizes, each room had really nice, quality touches. Lots of nice part of the gardens and building to relax in.
The reception and spa staff were excellent. Very attentive and personable. We ate breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea; all were good quality offerings.
The overall vibe of the place was very relaxed, attentive but chilled out. Perfect vibe.
Only slight snag was the food and drink staff. At dinner on 16/6 and breakfast and afternoon drinks on 17/6 the service was patchy. Staff were all really nice but each meal had a forgotten drink. There was a big queue for breakfast. It was noticeable that discarded rubbish front from the night before was still on the terrace late the following morning, similarly was bottles and glasses by the fire pit.
Breakfast and Afternoon Tea on 18/6 had great service though.
Overall was really impressed and look forward to returning soon! Feels like we’ve found a new local favourite staycation spot.

£450 for one night in the worst room that needed upgrading and didnt even include breakfast. Also used on site EV charger for half a charge and that cost £38! Normally costs £8. Having the cleaners hoovering directly outside the room at 7am also didnt help.

Dear Michael, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Your reservation was priced at £399 with the pet fee bringing it to £449. I can see that you mentioned on another review site that you found this to be "ripping people off". This charge is clearly stated throughout the booking process and is on our website. This charge is for the cleaning fees and amenities that we leave in the room for the dogs (food, biscuits, tennis ball and litter bags). Your room did not come with breakfast, due to you booking your reservation under a room only rate and choosing for it to not include breakfast. We would love to offer our electric car chargers complimentary. Unfortunately, in 2023 we were faced with a 300% electrical price increase, which meant it was no longer feasible to absorb the cost. We are passing on the cost to our business plus VAT for use of the service. In September 2024, our contract renews and we hope to return to more normal price structure. Our housekeeping team on the morning of the 18th started at 8am and start hoovering in the main lobby shortly after this. I have passed your feedback onto the housekeeping manager to see if her team started an hour early that day and to investigate this matter internally. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind regards, Thomas Duty Manager

Dinner was fantastic: delicious, generous portions and attentive service. The spa and massage was wonderful. I recommend the 1hr massage.
There were a few small details that took the shine off our stay, some hard to resolve, others easily resolvable.
1. The hotel is next to the A36. The road noise is noticeable. This is hard to resolve, without extensive hedging and fencing to reduce the level of road noise in the bedrooms.
2. We were in Room 26. It was quite small, but well appointed. There was a foul smell of drains in the bathroom. We opened the windows and ran the shower/ taps which helped.
3. Also in Room 26, there was an automatic sensor to turn on the bathroom lights when you open the door. A nice feature, except they go off after 5 seconds, and on again, and off, and on, twenty times during a shower!
4. Uric stains in the U-bend of the loo in the mens toilet in the spa. A detail I wouldn't allow in my own home!
5. On leaving I settled our bill, confirming all was paid. Several hours after departure we got double charged for the room onto my partners' debit card. It was supposed to be a gift. This was embarrassing and inconvenient. We immediately complained by telephone/ email. The following day the hotel called and processed the refund, which took some time. It was embarrassing and slightly took the shine off what would otherwise had been a generally good stay.
I did ask if any kind of compensation/ gesture of goodwill would be forthcoming as a sorry for the above issues... no response to that as yet!
At the moment I'd give 3.9 stars - but perhaps my experience isn't typical. It was quite an expensive experience.
Dinner was fantastic!

Homewood looks lovely in the website photographs and does look pretty good on arrival. I booked a Luxe Hot Tub room. The same room I received is pictured on the hotel website’s landing page but the reality was different. The photography shows a far more luxurious and comfortable room that was light and bright. The room had a separate bedroom and lounge as well as a garden area with hot tub. It had no air conditioning despite being told that these rooms did. The bedroom had an extremely loud portable air conditioning unit. The room decor had wall hung tapestries - personal preference but they did absolutely nothing for it. The bedroom felt dusty and dingy - not at all the bright and light room shown in the photography. The furniture was tired. The garden was pretty but very disappointing as there was no privacy at all and was in full view of the pool area. A neighbouring room had a ground floor window that was constantly open overlooking the garden immediately next to the hot tub. The hot tub itself appeared to have been modified to have very little power. There were no sunbeds in our garden. The pool area is small and was constantly busy with hotel guests reserving sunbeds with towels from early morning - yes, its that crowd. Most communal areas of the hotel could do with a refurb although the restaurant probably has been done most recently. Spa treatments were good enough but the spa lacks a polished feel and is very small with no relaxation areas. The food and drink offering is OK - but really should be better. The restaurant terrace is pleasant but nothing special. Larders contained very little other than sparkling water and ice cream infequently. An expensive, disappointing, below average experience sadly.

My husband ,son and his two dogs have just spent the most magical three days over Christmas at the beautiful Homewood hotel . The staff there are just so warm ,welcoming & friendly ,nothing is too much trouble . We were warmly greeted at the door ,our bags whisked away and we stepped into beautiful Christmas scene ,tastefully decorated by Christmas trees and bowls of flowers 🎄, The magic continued ,with Mulled wine mince pies and Champagne before many sumptuous meals . Our rooms were immaculate and so comfortable ,soft downy pillows and bedding . We awoke to find Santa had left a filled Christmas stocking and hamper full of delicious goodies outside our door , what a truly lovely surprise ,just one of the many things Homewood offer ,they do go the extra mile to please . We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough ,it should have 5 stars . We will definitely return . Thank you .

We had booked two rooms at Homewood, a Junior Suite and a Marvellous Room, the latter as I wanted a room on the ground floor because of walking difficulties. So my two daughters enjoyed the Junior Suite, especially the Christmas tree that was put into their suite. My sister-in-law and I found the Marvellous Room to be fairly large, with a lovely view over the gardens and as there had been a fall of snow before we arrived it was a magical scene from the windows, lovely to sit comfortably and enjoy the vista.
On arrival we had snacks from the bar and a glass of fizz before the fire which was a wonderful way to start our break. We found the beds to be comfortable and the heating very efficient in bathroom and bedroom. In fact we had to turn the radiators off overnight otherwise the room became too hot, even with the freezing temperatures outside. We really liked the Art Deco decoration of the rooms and the whole hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas. It was lovely to have a chilled drawer in the room in which were bottles of water and a small bottle of milk. The Smeg kettle and Coffee maker were nice touches. Oh and the Brownie was good too.
We ate in the restaurant the first night and were very impressed with the food. Breakfasts were excellent too, especially the Eggs Benedict and we were all impressed with the bacon. It was the best bacon I've tasted for many years, I assume it was local. I'd certainly like to be able to buy bacon as good as this at home. The other two nights we were at Homewood we ate in Bath and found a lovely taxi driver who was prepared to take us into Bath and collect us later to return to the hotel, at very reasonable prices too. If anyone likes fish restaurants I recommend The Scallop Shell in Bath. We went there a year ago and returned this time and it was just as excellent as we remembered.
The Staff at Homewood were excellent, couldn't do enough for us. We all agreed we would happily go back to the hotel, and may well do so.

Dear Annauk44, Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed you stay with us and that the rooms were to your liking. The weather was indeed snowy at that time and was truly beautiful. The chefs will be so happy to hear that you enjoyed the food and I will be sure to let them know your kind words. As you clan imagine the brownies, as well as the snack corner are a big hit with our guests so we are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed those aspects of the hotel. Hopefully we will see you again this year for a future stay and the team hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Kind regards, Thomas

We made use of the Black Friday sale to have a great saving on a Sunday night B&B stay in one of the suites overlooking the pavilion and front gardens. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the service. The room was spacious and very clean. The staff were attentive and very straightforward with communication and ease of facilities.
The service and support leading up to our stay was very well managed and swift in response.
I really liked the fact there was a Whatsapp channel for questions in-stay, and there was no additional charge or limit on room service. The spa was also semi-self-serve, in that you could help yourself to towels whenever you needed, but staff were on-hand to check-in for treatments.
The food was really great, and breakfast in our room was also a nice touch.
We'll definitely return again in the future, and would highly recommend anyone to visit for a relaxing stay.

What an amazing Hotel and Restaurant, these guys have it nailed!
My husband had booked us in for a couple of nights rest and relaxation just after my birthday. From the moment we arrived the staff were on point, friendly attentive but relaxed. Check in was easy, we were shown to our room and told a few bits about the hotel. The staff had left a lovely birthday message and some chocolates which was sweet.
The rooms had everything you needed and if you wanted any more coffee or tea supplies, there was a little station area tucked away near reception.
The spa facilities were fantastic, the bar area was cosy with a log fire burning and fabulous staff.
We ate in the Hotel Restaurant the first night ‘Olio’ and I have to say the food was fantastic and I thought great value for the standard of cuisine offered.
The Hotel is dog friendly, although on this occasion we had left ours at home.
Homewood, we had a lovely short stay with you and will definitely be back again to visit at some point.
