Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The outside of the hotel looks lovely however looks can be deceiving! The reception staff on arrival were all on their phones talking and not welcoming, no information was given about the restaurant or breakfast we had to ask. The room was filthy, see photos attached. Waiting staff took orders trying to remember and not written down so side orders didn’t come out with meals, evening meal was adequate however breakfast was dire. The beds were uncomfortable as springs were exposed. Dirty behind beds and 1970s decor, the curtain ties were hanging out of the walls and the window was left open on arrival.

A great little find! Was going to travel overnight up to the Highlands but became tired and found The Gables online, hoping the hotel would have a bed for the night. A friendly receptionist found us a room and within thirty minutes we arrived, just managing to get a drink at the bar before it closed. Had a good sleep, room and ensuite had everything for a one night stop and a fabulous breakfast the next morning set us up for the day ahead. Would definitely stay again.

Do not be fooled by the pictures online . The hotel from the drive up looks impressive and well kept , well it’s not . Out room was round the back in a purpose built annex . The door to the rooms is infact a fire door . The carpets leading to the room was disgusting . Crinkled m are threaded and really dirty and grubby all the way through , some really suspect stains , I would guess at vomit . Inside the room was like walking back into 1970s hotel room . Twin beds reminded us of the type MFI sold , mattresses thin and could feel the springs which creaked . Furniture is so dated ! The room was cleaned but not deep cleaned , just a fluff up with clean bedding . The shower was the worst I have ever seen . The area around the tiles and taps was mouldy . There is zero excuse for this , zero . Mould spray or even bleach takes care of mould . Around the taps , the shower rail , the tiles and bath the seal were displaying some impressive mould blooms . Now those take a while to get to that stage and any cleaning team would have seen them . Zero excuse to leave a bathroom looking like that . Esp when your paying over £100 for one night not including breakfast ! Our fav hotel along that road has since stopped trading , so we chose this one purely on the online pics . What a mistake ..

The hotel outside looks lovely but once you step through the door very deceiving. Room very grubby. Carpets badly stained & walls dirty. Outraged that I had to pay an extra £30 for one night's stay with my two small yorkie dogs asnot told at time of booking

The worst money ever spent. We stayed at this hotel for 1 night as a drop off on our way further up Scotland. It was extremely dirty and had a smell of dog throughout the hotel. The bedding didn’t smell fresh and the carpets were stained and had things on them. I wouldn’t walk round barefoot if you are there. I am aware it is a dog friendly hotel but that doesn’t mean it needs to be dirty. Please don’t waste your money as I wouldn’t let my dog stay there.

Dated and tired looking. Beautiful building outside but dark and shabby inside. Staff were friendly enough last orders in the bar at 9-30pm on a Sunday & £9-00 for a vodka & coke. £6 odd for a pint of lager. Quite dirty and grubby everywhere, curtains torn, carpets badly stained.

What a good place staffed by friendly people. Good value room with fine facilities and at a competitive price. Breakfast was first class and the breakfast room just encouraged chat between tables. Convenient location and free parking. Just a little problem with the heating. Enjoyed my visit but sadly only one night.

Easily the worst hotel I’ve stayed in the last ten years or so, complete refurbishment is required. The room was incredibly dated, carpets are very old and very stained. Bathroom was mouldy and shower pressure low. Seats in the bar area are so stained and disgusting you’d rather not sit on them. Breakfast (both days) was a complete shambles, and disgusting. After finally getting some attention, my breakfast came out missing items, had wrong items, and the sausages were vile, coming out with congealed fat the whole length of them where they’d clearly sat in a tin while the fat solidified around them. Like others, my Toast never did arrive, no one lucky enough to receive toast received it during their breakfast. Avoid this awful hotel.
