So going to start with the positives! The outside of the building is pretty, the staff are all lovely and the food is really good both evening meal and breakfast these being the reason for the 2 stars!. Now for the honest truth I booked an upgraded 4 poster room and could not believe how dirty this room was room no:8 my advice to the hotel stop letting this room out until it has been deep cleaned, painted, furniture changed and bathroom fixed!!!. The white wipe pic is of me cleaning the remote control!! I understand this is a dog friendly hotel but that left me questioning some of the stains on the carpet both myself and husband would not walk bare foot on the carpet it is disgusting! The walls are covered in marks, the facings and skirting are scratched badly, the curtains have stains on them, the bedside unit doesn’t even have a drawer in it! (Just take it out) the chest of drawers is broken, the bath panel is shocking see pic, the “Jacuzzi” bath is broken and the dressing chair is covered in stains!. We firstly didn’t want to complain due to it being only the second weekend after opening due to covid but felt we had no choice, there were no suites available for us to upgrade to so really we were stuck in this room unless we wanted to downgrade which I dread to think what that would have looked like!. The cleaning standard for the room was terribly poor even more so with the covid situation, I shouldn’t have to clean the remote, tv, mirror and bath when I walk into any hotel room let alone an upgraded one. The hotel has lots of potential it just needs a lot of care given in forms of refurbishment to the rooms and restaurant.

We booked the wedding package with this hotel and to say we were disappointed is an understatement. I know they are going to blame everything I say here on the current pandemic as they constantly did this during our stay there.  On arrival there was no one to be seen anywhere, we found a room to the side of the unwelcoming excuse of a reception. The sofas in there were shoddy and ripped. When we did eventually find someone they were untrained and didn't have a clue what they were doing. This was a constant during our stay.  They weren't expecting us when we arrived and even asked if it was a special occasion. We were given a 2 tea bags in a paper bag (we went to Co-Op for more supplies later) and told that our room was down there.  Ok we got the 4 poster bed but it was dirty and had chips in the wood. In the bathroom you got the bare minimum required for a 3* hotel. 1 small bar of soap and that was it. We had to ask for the prosecco and chocolates because again they had forgot. The rooms were not serviced and we were left with wet towels and no toilet rolls. This was again blamed on covid restrictions, however they could have informed us of this on check in (or left a notice in the rooms) rather than me having to look around the hotel at 7:30 am looking for toilet rolls.  We were aware that alcohol was not allowed inside and was advised that there was a covered area where we could take drinks outside. As the weather wasn't good we had to use the covered area. This was basically a lean to made out of fencing panels. It was full of rubbish and had 2 full Ash trays that were not emptied during the duration of our stay.  We decided to go to our room and have a drink there. The small bin soon got full and we had no option other than to place all the rubbish outside our room in carrier bags that we got from Co-op as the cleaners would not come in. This was a fire hazard as our room was next to the fire exit and it was still there when we left! Again no effort made to adapt to the pandemic.  The ceremony itself went O.K. and the minister (Paula Floyd) was fantastic and the room was fine. However the leg fell off the table that was used to sign the wedding certificate causing my now wife to trip and almost fall. The table was still in the room the day after with the broken leg wedged back in position. We were not offered the glass of bucks fizz as advertised after the ceremony and Nicole stepped up after her shift had finished not only to be our whiteness but also to video the ceremony (thanks again Nicole) We were not having our meal until later that evening so decided that rather than sit in the shack with the ashtrays that were not emptied, we would go to our room and have a few snacks and some wine in there. More rubbish was left outside the door and there it remained. The meal that evening was served in the same room as the ceremony and felt very isolating, the piped "house" music was awful and the menu was exactly the same as the one served in the bar the previous evening only at twice the price. Although I have no complaints about the food, it was served on some slates that we use at home as place mats. We did not get the oil burning lamp or the flowers and had to ask for the wine. It's a shame really as this could be a nice place to get married, but it felt like corners were cutting corners at every given opportunity.  Rather than using the time the hotel was closed to train staff and preparing to re open, it felt like it was just closed as a money saving exercise (understandable), but staff were taken on at the last minute and although they tried their best, it was obvious they didn't have the correct training.  The wedding planner could have made the effort to greet us on arrival but this was not to be.  The photographer was brilliant and took loads of photos, we opted against having photos outside the entrance to the hotel as the hanging baskets were either dead or dying. Once again this was blamed on vivid restrictions. Covid for a gardener? We left this hotel not feeling special at all. The wedding package to us felt as though it was like any ordinary booking at twice the price.  My parents were due to join us for our wedding, but my father had an accident and was unable to join us, they discounted my mother £10 (I'm sure she will leave her own review in due course) Look very closely at the prices for this hotel without a wedding package. Don't think for a moment you are getting a good rate if you add people to your wedding party. Personally I think that rather than getting defensive about the negative reviews of this hotel (check other reviews) they should take note of what people are saying and fix the problems. If you have an answer for every complaint you receive it goes to show that you have had the same complaint previously and failed to resolve it. Would I recommend this hotel… NO absolutely not! We said we would not let all this shambles of a place ruin our day…. BUT IT DID!

I would like to warn all future customers not to think about booking any stay or event at this venue. The customer service is appalling! The Manager Claire Hodgson thinks nothing of talking over her customers, is very rude and condescending. Do not trust their booking procedures. I was not sent any email or paper correspondence regarding my booking and terms and conditions were not available on the website. There should be no excuse for poor reception staff and incompetence. During this exceptional time of a pandemic you would think the hospitality industry would be welcoming guests with open arms not alienating them for profit. Please don’t bother wasting your time and money here, you will be disappointed!

Was frantic and phoning hotels a couple of weeks before our wedding. The hotel we had already booked had let us down (they didnt inform us) so spoke to Samantha the reservations co ordinator and so glad we did. She was so helpful and we managed to book the 7 rooms for 13 guests we needed and a room for 20 for our meal. From us getting there to leaving everyone was friendly, helpful and we felt really comfortable and at 'home'. Must say a big thankyou to the chef and kitchen staff for our food on both the nights was lovely, everyone said their food was spot on. A big thankyou to all your staff for making our special day/weekend a fantastic one to remember. I would just like say a special thankyou to the gentleman that was looking after us,didnt get his name but he couldnt do enough for us all the entire evening, (he should get a payrise!!) Because he is a big assett to your hotel, he worked tirelessly all weekend for us to make sure we were all well looked after. Well done all of you xxxx
