Had a beautiful afternoon tea with some colleagues at Stapleford Park. Arrived a little late for our reservation but we were greeted warmly and had the covid procedures explained to us by the team at reception before being promptly shown through to the bar.
At the bar we were greeted by Karolina who gave an exceptional welcome, confirmed our reservation and seated us at the table before providing us with disposable menus (printed on recycled paper) and explaining how the afternoon tea service was structured.
She then asked us if we would like our tea served with the pastries and if we would like to start off with something cold (must have noticed that we had been travelling for an hour in a car without air conditioning!).
Our drinks were served very professionally and she discretely clarified the dietary requirements for our group.
We were left to enjoy our cold drinks in the beautiful surroundings of the drawing room while we reviewed the menu.
After a short period of time she returned and took our order, this again was done in a professional but friendly manner.
The sandwiches arrived promptly and were delicious! Andrea, the Supervisor, checked that we were enjoying our afternoon tea and had such a lovely friendly and open manner.
We then had our tea served by Estelle who again was so friendly and eager to please. Our pastries and scones were brought out by Viktor shortly afterwards and again the selection was beautifully presented and delicious (can't beat homemade scones and jam!)
One of our party had to force down the last macaroon as she simply didn't want to leave it!
She mentioned that she regularly goes to the Ritz for afternoon tea and that Stapleford Parks was just as good and at such a reasonable price.
We took advantage of the beautiful weather to have a stroll around the beautifully presented grounds.
Overall an absolutely fantastic experience that I would highly recommend to anyone!
We will all be back!
Thank you Stapleford Park!!

Stayed for a one night stay with dinner, breakfast & afternoon tea. We booked in September, after they had reopened again. We had a fabulous room, having upgraded. From the moment we arrived we were treated very well, very friendly customer focussed staff.
On arrival we had booked to use the pool, which had to ourselves due to Covid restrictions. The pool is a good size and lovely.
Dinner was 3 courses of locally sourced, beautifully presented dishes. We can recommend the cheese board which was excellent.
After a quiet night (didn't hear a pin drop!) we had breakfast, again wonderful food choice.
Everything is extremely Covid secure, we were very impressed with the hygiene standards, cutlery air packed and the packs cut open in front of you, servers with gloves and face shields etc.
After a lovely walk around the grounds we came back in for afternoon tea, which was delicious.
We were sad to leave! All in all a great stay. We will be back!

We had an overnight stay, with dinner and afternoon tea booked for my birthday.
Our afternoon tea was booked for 2pm, it took 20/30mins before our tea arrived, it took over 50mins before our sandwiches arrived, we got told three times in the space of 30minutes that our sandwiches would be out shortly, by 3.40ish, our sweet treats had finally arrived, (they no longer bring all the items out at once) the service was shocking, at 4pm a new couple had arrived and they recurved their tea and sandwiches within 10/15mins of sitting down, our dinner was booked for 7.30pm so we were a little worried we would be too full up for our sitting. We were taken up to our room after our afternoon tea, and it was lovely, we did wonder why our curtains were shut so late in the afternoon, but realised due to the high winds outside we would have to keep the curtains closed because of the drafty windows, we had to extra heaters in the room to keep the room warm, unfortunately we didn’t get much sleep due to the high winds until the next morning.
We had a good dinner service from our waiter but wasn’t impressed with the food, my husband wasn’t keen on his starter and my main was Turbot and it was so bland, the only decent dishes were the desserts.
Breakfast- We were told breakfast was served from 7.30am, we went down at 7.45am, to find no member of staff around to show us where we were suppose to go, we ended up asking someone at reception and eventually found the room we needed, there was no hot food out until gone 8am as the waitress had told us “ the chef is running late”. The other breakfast menu that was on the table was also taken off by one of the other waitresses.
Overall we were very disappointed with our first stay here, which is a shame as we’ve had friends and family stay here who recommended Stapleford.

Arrived & loved the building & grounds & public areas. Was shown to a large side facing room on the first floor. Could have been cleaned better & the shower was so hard to put on I had to get my husband to release the knob which transfers the water from bath to shower. We went to the bar 45 mins before our dinner reservation time to have a relaxing cocktail. Should have guessed when they could not find the cocktail menu that it may be a problem Any way we ordered & waited & waited after 25 mins we asked where our drinks where to be told the order had not been placed!!! Why had we not just ordered a G&T. We told them not to bother & went to dinner at our correct time. As we sat our cocktails arrived we said it was to late but they said they would not charge & hoped that they were ok as had never made them before. They were not the best to be honest but they had given it a go. Dinner was tiny. More like a tasting menu instead of a 3 course dinner & you had to add side dishes to go with mains. We were offered complimentary coffee & a glass of house champagne in the lounge after dinner. The coffee was so weak you could see the bottom of the cup & the two tiny chocolate mints where laughable. We did not want complementary items we just wanted a nice relaxing stay with good service & cuisine and for the price charged it was expected. Unfortunately we had neither. After a good nights sleep we went for breakfast. Ordered cereals & a full cooked breakfast with the lady that lost our cocktail order. After 20 mins the cooked breakfast arrived they had forgotten the cereals. After we had eaten our breakfast they offered to bring the cereals. Really.
So sad for such a beautiful establishment to offer such poor service at a very hefty price.

Booked a stay here pre-Covid. Agreed to rebook when the pandemic meant the hotel had to close as we’ve been for several years and like to support the hotel. Now I’ve received an email a month before (without apology) telling me the cost for one night has doubled in price to over £600 for dinner I don’t want, a butler service I don’t need, hand sanitiser, and a breakfast they had the cheek to call ‘complimentary’. One might speculate that is largely because they have reduced capacity and want to shift out guests who booked on a cheaper rate to make way for those willing to pay the ridiculous new rate. Stapleford Park won’t honour the price I booked and rebooked for, nor would they entertain moving our booking to a different date at the original rate. Incredibly disappointing and a poor show of loyalty to guests. From 5* reviews (I’ve previously given) to 1*, maybe someone in senior management should question this strategy?

Booked for one night at the end of July as part of an anniversary break in a "Grand" room with dinner included.
Emailed 10 days before to confirm our reservation/dinner reservation and received an email confirmation back with the wrong details (wrong room type/rate - we had been downgraded!!)
I called to sort this out and held on for over half an hour before getting cut off. Tried again and got through to someone who said they would amend it and send a corrected email confirmation but nothing was sent.
Emailed the next day and finally got a correct booking confirmation back by email after two attempts.
But then, two days later and six days before we were due to stay they just cancelled our stay!! Blamed lack of staff due to covid and said we could rebook but not until end August/start of September! But there was nothing about this on their website and it was still taking bookings from 1st August...
So we had to find somewhere else at very short notice with very limited availability and were left with the feeling we had just been cancelled as we were on a cheaper rate through Secret Escapes. Fortunately Secret Escapes were very good and refunded us quickly but we would avoid this hotel due to our very poor experience.

Beautiful hotel in the middle of nowhere. Paid extra for a "grand room" but it was nothing like the website described. No 4 poster, tatty old furniture, tiny TV in a cupboard, no art work so high bare walls, scuffy old carpet. Dinner was a collection of tiny quantities of virtually unrecognisable food on very large plates. ( one dish included " exmoor caviar" didn't know sturgeon could swim so far inland). Ludicrous prices for wines and coffee. As a conference group had taken over the dining room we, and the two other guests had to eat in a hastily prepared ante room, sparse and unwelcoming. Breakfast, serve yourself, sadly contained in its hot boxes consisted of elderly bacon dried up mushrooms, tasteless sausages and a 15 min wait for fried eggs. The whites of the poached ones were just a tad from being liquid. The advertised pool etc was in a deep basement needing stairs up, a very long corridor, 6 doors and stairs down. Too tired for a swim but locked door anyway. Only redeeming feature was the cheerful staff. We don't like being ripped of so won't be returning.

We had so looked forward to our Sunday lunch, which was a Christmas present from our daughter. It did not start well, due to a one hour drive trying to find the venue, down miles of single track potholed roads, with no signposts at all, not even street names. When we finally arrived on site on time, thanks only to three locals giving directions, there was little to indicate where to even park, or gain entry to the main hall and reception. However we got inside and reception staff directed us to the lounge area to get drinks etc. This took about 15 minutes, then the menus arrived. The menu choices were very limited ( four items in each category, staters main & dessert ). After a further 15 minutes I had to go into the bar area to ask if someone could please take our order. This was done quite quickly, but then we had to wait a.further 25 minutes before we were invited to take up our places in the dining room. By this time we had been waiting for a little over an hour ! But we anticipated that the meal would prove worth the long wait. Unfortunately it was not. We waited a further 15 minutes for starters, then over half an hour between them and the arrival of the main course, which was dreadful. Dry overdone baked potatoes, an awful dry Yorkshire pudding and meat which was minute, fatty and overcooked, with only a minor drizzle of ‘gravy’. Very unappetising and not at all tasty. We again waited for another 15 minutes to get the desserts, which were rather nice. When we asked for the bill we were overcharged by about £10 and this took a further 10 minutes to get sorted out, with several staff, supervisors and ‘management’ being involved to resolve the matter.. But I must say the waiter was lovely and he apologised profusely for the poor outcome, but no-one else seemed to give a hoot.
Altogether an unforgettable experience for all the wrong reasons, and we left and returned home extremely disappointed. So sad that a well recommended place should turn out so poor. I doubt we shall be going again !

We stayed in 'Warner' overlooking the lake and parkland. Our favourite room Zoffany wasn't available. Our third visit, unfortunately the golf course has closed/sold and a change of ownership limits walking opportunities, however we managed 4 miles after breakfast. Had a few hours in the swimming pool, disappointed at the pool temperature, too cold to be enjoyable so had an hour in the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. it's quaint and not a 'spa' experience, but we know that and that adds to it's charm.
Fantastic sunrise, drinking tea sat on the bedroom window seat, morning marred though at 05:30 by a SCREAMING toddler, it's not 100% a young family venue in my opinion.
Service in the hospitality areas isn't great currently, management made aware: 20-30 min wait for drinks in bar, a ramekin of baked beans took 30 mins to cook, sourdough toast wasn't toasted it came untoasted on a plate, bread basket was 2 rolls and 1 was out the freezer, hard and cold burnt. we asked for the 12.5% discretionary service charge to be waived, as it was disappointing service, staff are young and appear untrained in some table etiquette.
Overall the bedroom rooms, the public areas, grounds, gardens are definitely worth a return visit and the church in the grounds very though provoking in it's age and simplicity, we hope that the service issues can be addressed by the management before we do.

Dear Thedancingmatrix Super happy to see that this was your third visit to us at the hotel. Such a shame that Zoffany wasn't available but it is one of the most popular rooms in the hotel. We are always looking to improve those service touches around the hotel and I will ensure that the points raised are discussed with the relevant members of the team. We are still looking forward to seeing you on visit number 4.

I really enjoyed my time at Stapleford Park, an imposing country estate dating back to the 1500’s set in 500 odd acres of parkland. Only after booking did I note some rather unfavourable reviews about slow service & cold bedrooms. I can relate to these issues, but nevertheless departed feeling very warm towards the hotel & inclined to this 5 star review. Initially I did have a bit of a wait for drinks in the elegant drawing room where they were busy with Afternoon Teas, but I was quickly won round by the wonderfully enthusiastic, smiley staff & service was prompt & attentive thereafter. Communal areas are stately & well kept, the drawing room & main hall with its grand, sweeping staircase & magnificent paintings, particularly swanky. The hotel is typical posh wedding & Afternoon Tea territory. There’s a spa, pool & array of sporting activities, & Melton Mowbray is less than 10 minutes drive away. My standard room was classically decorated & solidly constructed if a bit featureless & arguably ready for an update. It was a tad chilly during my early April visit but an additional heater had already been placed in the room & this pretty much did the job once I’d got it turned up on full pelt. The room was spacious, quiet & had plenty of natural light, the latter being of particular importance to me. The restaurant is a fine dining 2 Rosette affair, the dining room formal & fancy but with an easy going, unpretentious feel. Dinner (2 courses £40, 3 courses £50) was pretty good & well presented, service excellent.
Overall then, a very pleasant stay.
