We had a one night stay with dinner recently and what a surprise it was! The Eagle Tavern is a charming little place but blink and you could miss it . We were greeted by Marek, a really helpful and accommodating young man. He showed us to our room which was fine if just a wee bit basic but in fairness the bed was very comfortable and the shower was fine. We thought hat maybe it needed a feminine touch to the room as there was just ‘something’ missing, well there was no wardrobe so that was missing but that isn’t what I mean. However, overall, no complaints. The biggest surprise came with the evening meal, it was fabulous. My husband had haunch of venison and I had the lamb rump and oh my goodness, what a treat! It was so unexpected to find this quality of food in a small, tucked away tavern in a remote village. The rest of the meal was equally good ( tomato soup and cheesecake for one of us) and then in the morning I had the best poached eggs for breakfast I have ever had. They were just perfect. So thank you Marek and crew, if we were local we would certainly be back.

This was our first visit. We came on a recommendation from friends and were not disappointed. All four of us enjoyed an excellent meal. Portion sizes just right - we were advised 2 courses might be enough and we found this just right. Beautifully presented and delicious classics with an original twist, a pleasant light airy dining environment and kind, friendly, informative service. We will definitely visit this restaurant again and would highly recommend.

Went for a dinner and stayed over so we could all have a drink or two.

Chap who checked us in (and also worked behind the bar and served) was EXCELLENT.

Rooms comfy and no noise despite looking out over the road (it is a small village).
Food excellent – all courses.

Breakfast excellent as well (served by same good chap so he obviously works long hours).

Would recommend.

We were away for a long weekend and ended up staying a 5 minute walk from the Eagle Tavern.

We went twice during our visit because the food and service were so fantastic.
The Sunday roast was the best I can remember.

The team really go out of their way to make your meal special.

Really outstanding.

Really lovely food, with the beef being particularly good. Service generally good, but became a little slow towards the end of our meal. Lovely pint of local beer and nice coffee to finish, but would have been nice to have had a small biscuit to complement the coffee.

Upon arrival at The Eagle Tavern everything seemed lovely. The manager was welcoming and advised me about where to park.
My best friend had booked the hotel for the night before her wedding and I was due to stay the following night as well with my boyfriend. The manager acknowledged the wedding party and told me where my room was.
The room I was staying in was lovely but it was on the second floor and it was incredibly hot. Both rooms on this floor were hot but the hotel only had one fan to provide. When we pulled back the covers to get in there was a chocolate wrapper in the bed which was a little unsettling.
We ate in the hotel that evening and the food was good. The manager informed us that all food was sourced locally and may take a little while to cook but the wait wasn't overly long.
When the bill came at the end of the meal the manager also brought over room bills for all the members of our group who hadn't paid which made things very awkward. I don't know why he felt the need to do this as the room charge could have be requested on arrival or departure.
We were presented with a menu choice for breakfast the next morning and asked for a time we would be down. We requested 7am as we had hair and make up ladies coming in ready for the wedding. We were told that we would have to arrive on time as breakfast would be served promptly. Once we had provided our requests the manager returned and told us that not all of the requests would be possible as we had all requested different things. The problem seemed to be that one of the girls had requested a poached egg and another of us had requested scrambled.
The next morning our breakfast arrived and again the food was good.
Those of us staying for the following night had moved things from one room to another before we left for the wedding around 12.30.
I arrived back at the hotel at around 11pm and went up to my new room. I had left my watch and a gift bag from the bride in this room which had both gone missing. Naturally I was worried about this as the watch was an expensive christmas present and the gift bag contained a card from the bride to myself.
My boyfriend went down to the bar and spoke to the manager who assured him that nothing had been removed from the room by the cleaner. The chef went to check with the cleaner, his wife, and promptly returned with my watch in his hand. The gift bag was nowhere to be found.
It seemed odd to me that she would have taken the watch from the room. The chef's reasoning was that she didn't know that I was part of the wedding party however there were other things left in the room from the night before.
The next morning my boyfriend and I went down for breakfast and I asked about the gift bag which had gone missing to be told that the cleaner had thrown it away. Apparently the room was left in a mess with bottles everywhere (2 champagne bottles) and she didn't know what was rubbish and what wasn't. I was upset as the bag had a card from the bride to me in it which is the sort of thing I would have liked to keep.
Overall this was not a pleasant experience. I was made to feel that it was my fault that my bag had been thrown away, the staff were not compassionate at all and I did not receive any kind of apology.
I would definitely not stay in this hotel again. This should have been a wonderful experience getting ready for my friend's wedding and it turned into an unpleasant situation in which I felt like my belongings weren't safe.

This was the first visit to The Eagle for me, what a find! There, in a small Oxfordshire village, is a great pub, offering the most delicious food. The welcome was warm and friendly, the service was excellent and the food was first class - one of the best lunches I've had in a very long time. The duck breast starter, followed by rump steak were superbly cooked and presented, and sitting in comfortable surroundings beside a log fire was greatly appreciated on an otherwise very dreary Saturday. I cant wait to return in more the Spring to explore the village and beyond.

Eagle tavern is a secret gem in a little pretty place. The staffs are excellent and make our weekend stay very special. We stayed in one of the smaller room for a night and the large guestroom 4 for another. Both clean beautiful and worth it. Breakfast and dinner are not just your ordinary B&B, the chef is wonderful and it showed in all his dishes. Great place to stay for a weekend break!

You will not find TV, slot machines, loud music here. Simply outstanding, friendly service, a great choice of beers and good chat at the bar. In other words one of the old style pubs.
The restaurant is simply outstanding, everything freshly made to order and again outstanding service and a chef from the old school who comes around, when he is finished in the kitchen, and checks with all his guests that everything was satisfactory (not something you find often these days).
The room was excellent although the bathroom was a little cramped.
All in all a wonderful place and we will certainly be visiting them again.

A country restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere that lives in a village pub. You won't find sports screens or games machines here. What you will find are friendly, welcoming staff and well-cooked seasonal food. Over several meals here we experienced refined dishes, beautifully plated. Starters, mains desserts all lovely. Servings not large, so you can try
a little of everything! Sunday roasts also good. Especially tasty was the dessert Krupica, a favorite from the chef's homeland. Be sure to book, as people are often turned away.
