Really chuffed with our stay here - we had one night here and it was really lovely. On arrival we were shown to our lovely room by the barmaid Minnie, she informed us about local amenities and places to eat. The room was clean, cosy and had everything we needed. We had a few drinks at the bar and thanks to Minnie I’ve found my new favourite drink! Our breakfast in the morning was delicious and piping hot. Really lovely place and can’t wait to go back and visit again :)
We stayed at this B&B (it's definitely not a hotel!) for 3 nights of a planned 6. On arrival on Sunday afternoon, we were let into the building by the temporary landlady who was interviewing a breakfast chef. We were shown to a large room at the front of the building. There was a strange smell in the room that we later discovered was coming from the en-suite toilet (we suspect that the macerator wasn't working correctly). There were no toilet rolls in the room, no cups, tea etc etc, the landlady blamed the cleaner and did get cups for us. We unpacked our clothes. There was plenty of hanging space but only 3 hangers. We asked for some more and were given an additional 2. After we unpacked, we went downstairs to enquire about breakfast. We were assured when we booked that breakfast was included so we were surprised to be told on arrival that a 'continental' breakfast was included but that the cooked breakfast was an additional £5.95 each. We asked what the continental breakfast was and were told it was cereal and toast (not a continental breakfast even!). We returned to the room to notice the smell from the bathroom again. We walked to the shop across the road and bought some air freshener, opened the windows and then went out for a meal as the restaurant that was advertised when we booked didn't exist. On returning to the room, we again smelled the smell from the bathroom. We sprayed the air freshener again but had to close the windows because it was cold in the room, there was a lot of traffic noise and the heater didn't work. We had a cup of tea and went to sleep. Day 2 started OK, we ordered cooked breakfast which was cooked by the newly appointed breakfast chef. As we were going to the room, the landlady asked us to pay for breakfast (in case we left without paying!). We paid, then went out for the day. When we got back, we went straight to the room. The smell was back, the cups we had used the night before were still there, our room hadn't been cleaned. I took the cups down to the bar and asked for replacements. The girl in the bar said the landlady was having a lay down because she was tired. Day 3 started with us going down to breakfast, the new chef was completely on her own, taking orders, cooking food, serving drinks and cleaning tables. It was farcical, there was no fruit juice, I had to go to the shop across the road to buy some. In our room, the smell was a constant despite air freshener and open windows. Day 4 (Wednesday) our clothes smell damp, mildew and have been permeated by the smell from the bathroom. We haven't spoken to the landlady as she appears to have gone AWOL and left newly recruited staff running the place alone. They couldn't use the tills, and had been left without supplies: We went down for breakfast to be told that the breakfast chef couldn't offer us breakfast or even tea as she had no milk, eggs, bread, tomatoes which she had asked the landlady for 2 days ago! She said if we waited until 9, she would go to the shop and buy it herself so we could have breakfast! We went out for the day and by this time I was feeling sick at the thought of what we would have to face when we got back so I called Booking.com and asked them to find us another hotel. They couldn't find anything so I did it myself and we checked out after 3 of our 6 nights, drove to Devon and had a wonderful 3 nights at an Airbnb.…
Considering we booked a Cornwall trip very last minute, we were extremely impressed with this BnB. Its been very recently taken over and currently not serving food yet - it's clearly been recently redecorated and to a very high standard! I was so happy at how dog Friendly the place was, despite how pristine and clean the rooms were. I expect with all the things the landlady has planned, it'll turn out really amazing given a bit of time. Only teeny down sides were that WiFi was really no good (which is fine and they are getting sorted) and that they advertise free breakfast but the only thing you get for free is a bit of cereal and a hot drink - which of course is better than nothing, but I was slightly disappointed at having to pay £6 for a hot breakfast. I wouldn't even advertise a bowl of cereal as free breakfast so I expected a little more. Also more choice would have been good - again, probably something they are looking to implement at a later date. …
Thank you Gina. We spent a wonderful time in your place. You are very friendly and helpful. I like this place. 3 excellent night with my daughters and our friends. We really enjoyed our time. Shower are quiet big and clean. Quiet place good to relax
Just had a two night stay. Temporary managers on site who have been thrown in at the deep end but doing an excellent job. From what we learned, gang of yobs have been causing problems in the area and place got closed down due to complaints. Rooms are clean and fresh and the breakfasts are huge, and delicious. Let's hope a permanent manager takes the place on and carries on with the good work. Its the only pub in the village so would be a shame to lose it.
