Our guests just love The Mount - saying it is a 'home-from-home'. We hope to ensure that you have the best holiday here - one made of aga-cooked breakfasts in our beautiful dining room, tea and cake in the garden, sleeping well in the Egyptian cotton sheets, waking up to the beautiful views of the lake and mountains (and the smell of freshly made-bread!), good walks - in short, a relaxing and special time away from the hustle and bustle of usual life. The Mount is set in a very special place - one of the loveliest villages in the lakes. Portinscale village has it all - it is peaceful, right on the lake-shore, has wonderful cafes, an ideal place to start many great walks including Catbells, and two marines for canoeing, kayaking and sailing - and yet is only a short walk to Keswick - full of pubs, restaurants and shops! Many of our guests say what a special time they have here - in an area recognised for its beauty by its UNESCO World Heritage status.

Property's Favourite Review
The Mount is very welcoming and spacious. It is nicely decorated and the furnishings are lovely. The en-suite was a full size bathroom with a lovely large shower area (none of this cramped square section type of shower where you cannot bend down). The breakfast options were many and varied and all together an excellent stay. I plan to return as soon as my schedule allows. Thank you for a lovely stay.

WOW!
Tea and coffee and homemade cake on arrival, off street and on street parking, spotlessly clean room with stunning views of Derwentwater and the surrounding hills, crisp linen bedding on a comfy, solidly made bed, kettle, tea, coffee etc. and what looked like homemade biscuits, hair dryer, large fan, immaculate en-suite bathroom with many extras, lots of fresh, white, fluffy and perfectly rolled towels, TV, radio, wifi, corkscrew, wine glasses, bottled water, flowers, boot tray (pauses for breath) and thats just the room.
There's a small rubiks cube styled fridge on the landing with water and little bottles of fresh milk (just like we had at infant school in the 60's) and somewhere to keep your wine cool. Towels and biscuits for dogs at the front door, lots of information leaflets, books and maps everywhere, boot trays and a lovely homely lounge with comfy leather sofas and TV with dvd's, books and games and local artwork on every wall. Lovely colourful and busy gardens with plenty of outdoor seating areas to enjoy, outdoor waterproof photographic artwork, bike lock up and 2 friendly cats. (pauses for breath again).
Inviting clean and bright breakfast room with plentiful choice of condiments, jams, cereals, drinks and breakfasts with nice and cheerfully happy guests who like to chat with others whilst eating breakfast.
Thats our brief description of the ammenities, now onto the hosts.
Where on earth do we start?
Well, Caroline and Clive are without doubt the nicest and most welcoming hosts we've ever come across. Their whole demeanour is one of helping and providing and imparting useful information for walking, cycling, swimming and many other local activities. We've never felt so at home in any other establishment and would challenge anyone to find fault with them as hosts. We were only there for 2 nights but they and their lovely guest house made such an impression on us that we're planning on making their humble abode our base of operations for all future expeditions to the Lake District.
You would be hard pushed to find anywhere thats as warm and welcoming as The Mount. Make sure you consider here when visiting the lakes, you won't be disappointed. Just make sure there's a room left available for us too.
I would like to make a point that we are in no way related to or affiliated with Caroline and Clive in any personal or professional manner. We have not received or been offered any gratuitous payment or favour for a positive review of their establishment. This is an honest and genuine review by 2 very happy and impressed guests.

Wow! We feel so humbled by this review. It is just amazing and we feel so delighted that all our hard work, care and attention and also worries in context of Covid19 have led to such positive feedback from two discerning, lovely guests. It was so lovely to have you here, and we are already looking forward to seeing you both again.

My wife, my dog and I visited The Mount in February 2020. Our visit was at short notice. From the whole experience of ringing the B and B to book to leaving we were very impressed. Caroline was friendly and helpful on the phone - explaining that booking and paying on the phone was cheaper than booking online. When we mentioned we were bringing the dog, she asked questions about what type of dog we have so we could get the appropriate room for dog size.
Upon arrival we felt that Caroline and Clive had thought of everything. The dog had a dog friendly cake made for him as well as blankets provided for him in the room and a dog bowl provided for him.
The room was immaculate with plenty of options for hot drinks, the bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was lovely and clean.
Breakfast was also excellent with each item on the plate being locally sourced which to me made it all the better! A breakfast was also provided for our dog which he had eaten in a matter of seconds! Clive and Caroline were also very helpful in advising of places to visit in the Lake District taking into consideration the weather conditions we were in whilst there (it had snowed in the area so roads could be treacherous).
As an extra to note about the hospitality tea and cake were provided for us on arrival. On our 2nd night staying we were the only ones staying so Clive lit a lovely log fire in the lounge for us.
We thought the Mount was amazing and not only would we recommend it to anyone, we already have! Thank you so much Caroline and Clive!

We had the most wonderful few days staying at the Mount. We arrived early evening and were welcomed with tea and cake. Both Clive and Caroline were so lovely and gave us so much great advice, from the routes up Scafell Pike, to some great places to eat in the area. They have lots of walking books and guides which we were able to borrow (they rotate the books around so they are all covid safe).
The room was beautiful with everything we needed including homely touches such as a lovely throw on the bed. There was a kettle and selection of teas/hot chocolates and even filter coffee... And homemade biscuits!
The bathroom had a waterfall shower along with a locally sourced shampoos/conditioner and moisturiser/foot cream.
Breakfast was delicious and you definitely won't go hungry.
Overall I'd say the nicest guest house I've stayed in and I can't wait to go back!

We’ve just returned from a lovely 5 night stay at The Mount with our dog and we highly recommend it. Our room was very clean and comfortable with loads of little touches which made our stay that bit more special; dog supplies (blankets, biscuits, shampoo, bowls), local sourced bathroom products and access to high quality refreshments in our room (fresh ground coffee, homemade brownies, fresh milk, good quality hot chocolate and tea bags.) Breakfast was of high quality and served with a smile, our dog was even offered a cooked sausage every morning! Caroline and Clive made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived and they’re clearly passionate about the area and have loads of suggestions of things to do and see.

Woohoo we just had a fourth stay with Caroline and Clive and feel very lucky as they are in demand!!
It's like your own personal retreat in absolutely brilliant surroundings, delicious breakfasts, fruit ,prunes, yogurt, granola, apple and ginger juice .My husband had porridge that Clive lovingly made and I had the avocado on homemade bread toasted with an aga egg, halloumi and tomatoes that was superb.
One morning I had one of Clive's seriously fantastic crispy bacon sandwiches on his soft tasty homemade bread with butter and avocado, can my life get any better?!!!
We usually stay in room number 2 which is lovely and stayed in room number 5 this time which was great too with lovely local toiletries, it's light and airy with everything you need and a tin of homemade treats for us and some for our dog!
Clive cooked sausages for our lurcher who loved them too. It's everything you could want in one place! Caroline is an amazing wild swimmer and knows the areas well and gave me some tips of where to go for a first time!!
I only a dip in Loweswater and it was so invigorating!Just get out quick and get dressed was Caroline's expert advice and it was so enjoyable after thinking I had a go!
They have a fabulous way about them and make you feel really special and that they really do value your business and want you to enjoy your stay.
I loved the beautiful peonies from their equivalent of an award winning Chelsea Garden that were in jars around the property, their artwork is interesting and you could sit outside for breakfast or inside.
They were superb with their social distancing and everything was excellent, thanks to Julie too who was a joy to meet and our room was immaculate.
We usually visit in March so it was different being in June and the sunshine never stoppedThe views are spectacular,I loved being in the shower and looking out through the roof light at the mountain view. Every minute was an absolute joy and it's a great place to explore the area from.
Forget booking anywhere else this is your next guilty pleasure I am convinced you will love it!!
It's so refreshing to meet like minded people with energy, enthusiasm and a love of the Lake District.
Caroline and Clive you were meant to be at The Mount and this is definitely your destiny!!!! Keep up the fantastic work we can't wait to come back.
Enjoy the summer!

I stayed here for one night in the little shepherds hut.
Absolutely brilliant hosts, very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you - they even put hot water bottles in my bed for extra warmth in my hut!
Upon arriving I was shown around and shown to the living room for coffee and cake - very welcome after the weather had decided to take a turn! I am gluten free and they provided a gluten free flapjack to accompany my coffee whilst telling me of places to eat and walk.
Breakfast the next morning was brilliant, again catered for me being gluten free and was very filling!
The location was great, very close to Derwentwater and a short walk into Keswick (20 mins)
Thank you for an enjoyable stay!

A wonderful, genuinely dog-friendly b & b where you can expect a warm welcome from Clive and Caroline, delicious breakfast and an immaculately clean, comfortable room. We particularly liked the large dining table for breakfast (but there is an alternative if you prefer to eat with just your own party). You are really made to feel like house guests, not paying guests. Car parking is at the rear and the location is great; there are plenty of walks if you wish to leave your car in the car park during your stay and Keswick is an easy fifteen minute walk away. The Lake District is generally dog friendly anywhere but The Mount is one of the friendliest we have stayed in. Lucy and Milly look forward to coming again and say “thank you” for their sausages.

Great place, owners, and accommodation....very nice place, difficult to give any negatives at all. From arriving to leaving we felt we was staying in a very special place. The owner are fabulous, friendly, helpful people. This b&b is very very dog friendly but if you don’t have a dog or feel dog friendly b&b’s would put you off, then don’t. The Mount is spotless. If you are a dog person then this place is for you, your pooch will be spoiled rotten, from dog cakes on arrival to sausages at breakfast!
The location is perfect, only a 15 minute traffic free walk into Keswick.
