Travellers' Choice

Our guests just love The Mount - saying it is a 'home-from-home'. We hope to ensure that you have the best holiday here - one made of aga-cooked breakfasts in our beautiful dining room, tea and cake in the garden, sleeping well in the Egyptian cotton sheets, waking up to the beautiful views of the lake and mountains (and the smell of freshly made-bread!), good walks - in short, a relaxing and special time away from the hustle and bustle of usual life.

The Mount is set in a very special place - one of the loveliest villages in the lakes. Portinscale village has it all - it is peaceful, right on the lake-shore, has wonderful cafes, an ideal place to start many great walks including Catbells, and two marines for canoeing, kayaking and sailing - and yet is only a short walk to Keswick - full of pubs, restaurants and shops!

Many of our guests say what a special time they have here - in an area recognised for its beauty by its UNESCO World Heritage status.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Property's Favourite Review
The Mount is very welcoming and spacious. It is nicely decorated and the furnishings are lovely. The en-suite was a full size bathroom with a lovely large shower area (none of this cramped square section type of shower where you cannot bend down). The breakfast options were many and varied and all together an excellent stay. I plan to return as soon as my schedule allows. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We had the most wonderful stay at The Mount. Absolutely lovely room with fantastic views. Caroline and Clive were great. Leo, our dog was made to feel at home, and loved his little play around with Peppa which made it even more fantastic. We have booked straightaway for next year - can't wait.

We had a very relaxing and comfortable week, Caroline and Clive were delightful, wonderful breakfast and nice company around a large table so we could hear where the rest of the guest were going and good helpful suggestions as to what we should visit. It really felt like home from home.

This was a very different break away to my usual. I decided to book and stay in the shepherds hut at The Mount I was travelling solo and I thought it felt very safe being in the garden area . I found it was well contained and comfortable with everything I needed for my couple of days stay . Fridge, kettle, tea, coffee etc . Heater , Stove The bed was so comfortable and the hut was very clean . There was also a separate bathroom for my sole use in the Mount . The nice part was that you can have breakfast in the house at a great big table in the dining room and also have access to the lounge area . Clive and Caroline were the most helpful and welcoming hosts , very helpful. Friendly. A Great couple of days away

Clive and Caroline offer everything you need for a wonderful relaxing holiday. Breakfast was delicious and we particularly enjoyed meeting and chatting to other guests at the very large breakfast table (they are able to offer a separate table in the sitting room or outside (weather permitting). We were in room 2 with amazing views of the lake. Lovely clean room and en suite with teas, coffee and home made biscuits. Highly recommend.

Excellent! Conveniently just off the A66. Excellent breakfasts for all tastes. Delightful hosts, Caroline and Clive, hugely helpful with local knowledge and suggestions for places to see/things to do without being intrusive. I tried to find fault but failed. Utterly. Dammit!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Mount. Caroline and Clive were marvellous hosts and very attentive to meeting my dietary needs - including special treats! (I'm Coeliac) I especially enjoyed chatting to other guests over breakfast before venturing out for my walks - I would definitely recommend it as a place to stay
