Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My first impression was no reception area and no one to greet you on arrival, all very impersonal. The room was clean but quite small, breakfast was very nice but was only served between 8am-9am. A lounge to relax in would have been a bonus. I would not hurry back here, it totally lacked any atmosphere.

Heres my fair review. This is a great base for walking and offers pretty basic accommodation. Just what we wanted. Hot shower which was amazing. Our bed was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was really tasty and the owner was lovely and her sons who served us were very polite. Just a note though to anyone looking for a luxury break you will be disappointed as its not that. It's a walkers base in my opinion and suits that's perfectly. I chose to write the review based on other reviews expecting a more luxury stay. Take earplugs in case of noisy neighbours as walls are thin. Overall we would return as location was fab and shower was hot! We're pretty easy to please!

We had a lovely long weekend here in the autumn after a recommendation by our neighbours. We could not have been more delighted. It was crisp autumn weekend, cold but sunny and we did some incredible hiking STRAIGHT from the back door. There is free parking - huge bonus in Keswick, the location is perfect - 20 minute hike to the foot of Catbells, Newlands Round, Barrow, Coledale. Bathroom and room were all freshly renovated. Delicious breakfast served by very polite and helpful family members (the juniors!). One of the best things was the piping hot showers and super clean rooms

Our favourite place to stay when visiting the Lakes. This place is always so warm, clean and welcoming. Having read some of the reviews it seems a shame people get so upset about 'checking themselves in' - we love independence of checking oursleves in. Breakfasts are the highlight - Phil cooks a wonderful hot breakfast to order. Poached eggs are a must! We have already booked for 2024. In terms of value for money and a lovely place to stay this is hard to beat if you are planning a trip to the Lakes

I messaged the owner privately and have given him a week to apologise for the cleanliness of our room but he has not had the courtesy to reply or apologise so I have decided to write a review Unfortunately there were several large and dirty cobwebs in our bathroom and bedroom that hadn't just been there for a day or two they had been there weeks as had the dead insects that were inside the bathroom light fitting. On leaving I stripped the bed and left the room tidy if I had looked at the bed before I slept in it there is no way I would have slept on the very stained mattress protector and under the very stained duvet. It feels like the owners are there just to make a maximum profit for the smallest effort. I understand it is a business and the ladies at breakfast were very nice but there is nothing personal about a posh youth hostel Very very disappointed for something we had looked forward to for a while.

What you see on website is not a true picture. We had room 1 very bad access in dark, small room with cobwebs and dust, mould on grouting in shower room, very noisy from upstairs guests. The breakfast was fine and young boys serving were very pleasant , never saw anyone else

What to say! Rickerby Grange is self check in. We arrived at. 3pm, used the code to get in and found our room number on a board in the hallway. Off we went to find our room and walked through a small dining room containing 4 laid up tables for rooms numbered 12 to 15. Our room was ok with French doors leading out onto a small garden with a patio. Unfortunately although a note stuck to the door told us to enjoy the garden, we couldn’t open the door. However, this was a blessing really as the garden was full of weeds. With regards to tea and coffee making facilities, stocks were very stingy with small glass jars containing tea bags and coffee with 6 little milk pods. We pre ordered breakfast which was very good and served by who we believe was the owner’s son. A charming young lad who asked if we had paid. We hadn’t, so the only time we saw an adult was when we paid. The place was soulless and we wouldn’t recommend it.

Stopover stay on way back to Scotland. Spotless room, very comfy bed and hot shower. No frills decor but functional and it works. Kettle, milk, tea and coffee in room, and the opportunity to top up provisions in the hallway, excellent idea! Check in and breakfast choice arrangements work very well. Plenty of on site parking. Very good choice for breakfast in a lovely modern breakfast room with very friendly service. We ate at the nearby Farmers Arms in the evening and enjoyed our meal. Would return.

We absolutely loved our stay at Rickerby Grange. It is a beautiful, well kept hotel in a brilliant location. Phil, Charlotte and all the staff were friendly, warm and attentive. They helped us with maps and walking routes, and gave us great tips on restaurants and pubs. The breakfast was delicious too! We'll definitely be back.
