My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and what a fantastic stay we had! I have no fault. Great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The room was up to an excellent standard, very clean, the shower was really powerful, there was lovely little touches such as the welcome tray and tic-tacs on our pillows on an evening. There was a vast choice for breakfast in the morning and I had the full English the first morning and eggs royals the second and both were cooked to perfection!! I also was a very big fan of the homemade marmalade! We will definitely return as there is nothing at all we can complain about. Keep up the good work!

We stayed for six nights at Skiddaw Croft B&B and couldn't have been happier! Sue and Steve were excellent hosts, and were very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. The rooms were spotless, and we were fed very well, from Sue's tasty ginger cake which we received upon our arrival to the delicious cooked breakfasts every morning. The B&B itself is in a great location, just a scenic 20 minute walk into Keswick (quite nice to do before and after a big dinner!) and an easy drive to many major hikes in the area. We stayed from the 17 May, so just after accommodation opened again after lockdown, and we felt very safe as everything was very clean. When we're back in the Lake District, we would definitely stay again! We cannot recommend Sue and Steve's place highly enough.

Just had 2 wonderful days stay at Skiddaw Croft. Welcomed by friendly hosts Steve and Sue who sent us a link to their app which has lots of information regarding walks, places to eat and lots of things to do in the area, which is a great idea ( not seen before) On arrival we had delicious homemade ginger cake and shown to our lovely, immaculately clean room with wonderful views of Derwentwater and Grizedale Pike. They still have masks and hand sanitizer in place to protect guests and themselves, which is a wise idea. The B&B is set in a very peaceful location with an easy 20 minute flat walk to Keswick (also easy for buses and taxi). It was such a relaxing stay and the hosts were great we will definitely return for another stay. Many thanks to Sue and Steve

The attention to detail shown by Sue and Steve is first class. Small touches such as addressing each of the guests by their first names allowed the homely B&B seem almost like the setting of a visit to a family member, rather than an anonymous ships that pass in the night feeling some B&Bs can invoke. Breakfast with the other guests became a warm conversation with a few laughs, rather than an akward whisper fest.

The breakfast cooked up by Steve (I believe) is surely up there with the best breakfast I can recall having in any hotel, restaurant or B&B - keeping up the very high standards we'd observed in all other departments. Also, Sue and Steve were very accommodating to my partner who is wheat and dairy intolerant - providing her with a gluten and dairy free treat in the room on arrival and modifying the breakfast to suit her.

The room was a tiny bit snug but was spotlessly clean with everything that we needed provided to us. Even the shower gel provided smelled wonderful. The building looks great inside and out and is perfectly located for Derwentwater, Catsbells, Keswick and all of the beautiful countryside the setting boasts. There's even a pub and cafe close by that are worth a visit too. We were able to park right outside the property and the offer to park around the back of the building was offered to us in case we preferred it.

For anyone who is covid nervous rest assured that Sue and Steve have taken every precaution to be covid secure.

Overall probably the most satisfying B&B experience I can remember - so thank you Sue &Steve!

We have just returned after a fabulous 4 night stay and have already recommended this wonderful B&B to friends and family.

Skiddaw Croft is in a beautiful location overlooking Derwentwater and surrounded by the fells and is a fantastic base for exploring the rest of the picturesque Lake District.

Steve and Sue are fantastic and attentive hosts and provided us with some great places to visit and eat out. We throughly enjoyed everything that was recommended by them.

The homemade ginger cake we were given on arrival was delicious and appreciated.

The B&B is imacculate throughout and very Covid-19 secure which put us both at ease. The quality of the bedding and towels were lovely and made it really welcoming and homely.

The breakfast each morning was delicious and we could really tell the quality of the local produce used, it set us up for a long day of exploring.

I celebrated my birthday whilst here and Steve and Sue surprised me with candles to blow out on my breakfast and I had a lovely card and box of fudge given to me which I thought was a lovely touch.

We are already planning on returning to Skiddaw Croft next time we visit the Lakes!

This month was the first time away from home me and my wife had enjoyed since the start of lockdown. We are huge fans of the lake District and return year on year. This was our first stay in Skiddaw croft and it certainly won't be our last. We were immediately made to feel welcome and the quality of service throughout was second to none.

Steve provided fantastic breakfasts which we were able to order through their new app, no more forgetting to fill in a breakfast form.

The room was very clean and comfortable and we were able to enjoy Sue's homemade ginger cake whilst watching a thunderstorm across the mountains. Speaking of Sue, we are enjoying her homemade marmalade whilst writing this review which we were gifted on departure.

We are looking forward to booking our next visit.

As a family of 3 (9 year old son) we have just spent 3 nights at Skiddaw Croft B&B in the lovely village of Portinscale.
On arrival we were greeted by Sue & Steve who are the most wonderful hosts. Sue treated us to some of her ginger cake which was the best!
Our family room was spotless, lovely comfy beds and a large window overlooking Grizedale fell. Plenty of space in the room and even had a hairdryer which was a lovely touch. Couldn't resist the jar of sweets in the room either!
The breakfasts are amazing, plenty of choice that you preorder the day before which we thought was a brilliant idea! Steve makes his own tomato sauce which was very tasty.
The location of the B&B is perfect, about a 20 minute scenic walk to Keswick Town, 2 minute walk to the Farmers Arms pub which we can recommend and The Chalet Tea rooms is across the road. Two Marinas are a stones throw away and you can tick off several fells in the area including Cat Bells.
The B&B is extremely comfortable, quiet and nothing was too much trouble for Sue & Steve and we felt we left with 2 new friends and will definitely return!

Loved staying here, it was the perfect location just a short walk to Derwent water and a great location to explore the Lake district. Steve and Sue were great hosts, they have adapted brilliantly to Covid secure hosting. On arrival we were given the most delicious home made cake. We slept comfortably in the room and woke up to great views. Breakfast was delicious with an impressive variety of options.

We had a wonderful time at Skiddaw Croft, definitely the best B&B we have ever stayed at. When we arrived Sue & Steve were there to meet us, what stood out from the beginning was how friendly and helpful they were, happy to chat and answer any question we had. We had room 3 on the 1st floor, which was gorgeous, very spacious, tastefully decorated and had a beautiful view over Derwent Water, they had even put easy chairs & a coffee table in the bay window so you could site and admire the view. Couldn't fault anything about our room. My Mother had room 5 on the top floor, a small double, which had an en-suite, again very well thought out & tastefully done. Breakfast was amazing, plenty of choices, you placed you order the night before, the cooked breakfast was delicious, the best we have ever had. There was free parking around the back, there was even a small touch in your room to use at night. We can highly recommend a stay at Skiddaw Croft, it's the place to stay if you are up in the north part of the Lake District.

We are so glad that we picked Skiddaw Croft for our recent trip to The Lakes.

Sue & Steve are fabulous hosts making their guests feel very welcome from the outset.

Our spotless room was at the top of the house with a beautiful view of both lake & mountain. The bed was very comfortable, & there were lots of little extras to make you feel at home such as tissues and mints on the dressing table and homemade cake to enjoy with a cup of tea when you arrive. A nice idea is the provision of a black towel to be used after washing make-up off so any residue is not on the fluffy white bath towels!

There is a wide choice for breakfast and if you want a cooked one Steve will prepare it just how YOU like it.

This is a great base for hikers, and, although we were not hiking, Sue very helpfully gave us detailed footpath directions for places we wanted to visit. Just down the road there is a very well maintained footpath to Keswick.

Definitely the place to stay if you're in the area.

any idea roughly how long it takes to walk to keswick?

Yes, it takes approx 15-20 mins depending on ability. Walk down to the Derwentwater hotel, there is a small bridge which leads you onto a path which goes straight into Keswick. Brings you out at the bridge (opposite the Pencil factory).
