Let's be clear - the room is definitely no more than a standard 3-star, however this place is extremely cheap, it's in a stunning building, it's in a lovely location and the restaurant downstairs, whilst ironically pricey, is really good.

A fantastic experience - If I ever had an excuse to be in Parma again, I will stay here in a heartbeat.

My husband and I stayed here 2 nights in May, it is 10 minutes out of Parma in a small village and , as you can't drive into the centre of Parma, and as it is busy and crowded in summer, we were glad to be somewhere quiet. It was a good spot also for doing the Parma Golosa food tour, which we also enjoyed. We also drove about an hour to see the Ferrari museum in Maranello.
It is in an old abbey , the rooms are quite basic, and small , but adequate, but the dinners were the best we ate in a month in Italy. The dining room is very elegant, and each course was delicious , especially the Beef Letizia. We were going to eat in Parma the second night but came back because the food was so good. The owners were very helpful organising the food tours and giving directions.

Situated in a charming village a few kilometres off the A1 autostrada near Parma, the Relais Fontevivo was a total gem of a stop-over. The accommodation was acceptable but everything else - the welcome we received from the owners, the outstanding and unique ambience of the former monastery and the fantastic dinner enjoyed in the cloisters and cooled by a most welcome breeze just blew us away. We shall find a reason to return! Thank you Relais Fontevivo!!

Very welcoming and helpful staff. Lovely restaurant with good food - although breakfast was very limited (even for Italy with no cheeses or meets (from what I could see))

Room is very basic and small. Bed and pillows are rock hard.

This is the problem..........I stay in hundreds of hotels and the ONE thing I want is a good night sleep. I think I can pretty much forgive anything else but I need sleep, especially as I have to work the next day (if you are on holiday maybe it is not such an issue).
I realise that types of bed and sleep quality are very individual but I awoke here tired and far from prepared to carry out a 6 hour meeting.

Interesting experience and nice evening meal but not sure I would return

4 night stay. Reservation via email. Must have a car-rural setting. Quaint former monastery, no frills. Very helpful pleasant English speaking local innkeeper is the best selling point. Basic cold continental breakfast. Pigeons roost on window sills with free floating dander.Tiny shower stall with curtain. Room would benefit from more thorough cleaning. Bad acousics since old plaster walls and tiled floors-noisy. Free parking on street or in lot. Very small town with affordable restaurant across the street. Convenient to Parma cheese and ham tours-reserve ahead via web. Day trip to Cinque Terra -drive one hour to train station. Church bell rings at 7AM daily. Limited zone for free WiFi.

I just came back from a fantastic weekend in the Parma area. we stayed two nights at the hotel Relais in Fontevivo. It is a great value and the service is exceptional, however, this is the first time I was really surprised based on what I had read on TA. The hotel was historic (really old and in a partly restored building), charming (in that it is an old abbey, with small chamber like rooms with fairly large bathrooms attached) and very clean. Some of the beds in our rooms were cots and very soft and lumpy, the TVs were very small, and the rooms were sparsely decorated with old fixtures and linens. The air has a pervasive smell of the farming industry of the area. I only say this because I think it is fair to create a balanced view when writing these reviews. The people that run the hotel are gracious and were very helpful during our stay, the hotel, bed linens, etc. were very clean, the breakfast was a good continental breakfast, and the historic charm of the building is unique; but when compared to all; hotels in Europe I have stay in, I would rate it as average.

We only stayed one night but wished we had stayed longer. The setting, a converted monastery, was unique, the welcome was warm. Located in a small, quiet village just outside Parma. Our hostess supplied lots of information on things to do in the area. Breakfast was a lovely spread of local pastries, fruit, yogurt, and meats and cheeses. We had to leave early and they were willing to accommodate out needs. We had dinner at the restaurant, the 12 Monks, which was one of our best meals in Italy.

We stayed here in July at the recommendation of Mirco from Parma Golosa tours. The property is a beautiful converted old abbey. A bit hard to find, but well worth the search! The on-property restaurant was quite good (a pear risooto to die for) and the reception staff was very friendly. No central a/c, but we were offered a window unit. Even in the humid heat of July, once we opened the window, it wasn't necessary. Our room had a fantastic view overlooking a field and was quite large. By far the biggest bathroom we saw in Italy. Decent-sized sports pub right on the corner, and a gelateria within walking distance. The charming feel of a very small european town. We loved our stay!

This is a former monastery which has been converted to a hotel that caters for parties, weddings and conferences and run by a family that take pride in the place and who are great hosts. We had a two night mid week stay to break the journey on the drive from Switzerland to Lucca in Italy and this place was just perfect, peaceful and had everything in the room that was needed including a lovely view across farmland. We had dinner in the hotel the first evening which was just amazing. I had the most delicious rack of lamb with herb crust which was so tender it practically melted in my mouth while my wife had the risotto which she thoroughly enjoyed.
This building is steeped in history and has the original bell tower still in perfect working order together with lots of antiques and many other interesting features to numerous to mention. Breakfast on both mornings was excellent with a selection of yogurts, fruit, cereals, bred, cakes, cheese, Parma ham and a variety of cooked egg options. It is in a fantastic location about 10km from Parma and the airport perfect for a short break. Thanks again to TripAdvisor for another wonderful find.
