Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We all had a fabulous time, a group of 13 came to cerebrate a friends’ 50th birthday, with afternoon tea. The food was yummy, especially the sausage roll with cranberry jam 😋 The staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble and the service was wonderful. Thank you all for making it such a special day 🥰

On arrival we were greeted by hanna a very friendly lady on reception who we found out a little later was working the bar only only helping on the desk. Our evening meal was out of this world our waitress Michelle helped us decide what to order as there was so much of a good choice and we were overwhelmed her service was warm friendly and attentive the room was clean and comfortable we will definitely return

Wow! What fabulous little hotel! Gorgeous room, eventhough we had dogs with us...it was very spacious and clean, as was the bathroom, with a jacuzzi bath, which I very much enjoyed. The meal we had in the evening was next level! Not so much your standard bar meal, as a gastropub experience! The staff were so helpful and friendly, from reception to bar, to wait staff. The breakfast was also impeccable. Wonderful selection, beautiful produce, cooked perfectly, with great decaffeinated coffee & pastries. Couldn't recommend enough if you're after a quaint and comfortable stay with excellent food and customer service!

We recently had our wedding at The Morritt and it was perfect! From our first enquiry to the big day, nothing was too much trouble for Clare and she was always responsive and did everything possible to make the day perfect - she did good! We couldn’t have wished for our day to go any better, it was brilliant from start to finish and we would recommend The Morritt without hesitation! Thank you to Clare and the team who worked on the day for making everything so perfect, we will be forever grateful.

So a lovely building in a nice spot and a fair price, but with some staff training and a bit more management it could be so much better. The bar area, restaurant and lounge are comfortable and pleasant places to be- though the restaurant was quite drafty. There was one stand out member of staff in the day (Cathy) but all of the other staff were lack-lustre and more interested in talking to each other than responding to guests - some basic customer service training would help as would better floor management. So for example given everyone books for dinner so you can expect their time of arrival and given there were 3 staff on in a not busy restaurant (10 tables full) everyone had to wait around for ages to be seated as the waitresses stood out the back rather than at front of house. Having eaten a starter and a main course in the restaurant we were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu as the waitress cleared our plates - we said could you give us a minute - 25 minutes later in a half empty restaurant nobody came back - so we skipped dessert/coffee and the digestif we might have had and might have made the hotel money. There was no engagement from any of the serving staff over dinner - which is a 2AAstar restaurant, so you expect service not just food delivery. The £33 bottle of wine was brought to the table already uncorked and poured literally without speaking. Whilst technically part of a team of 2 at the breakfast service Cathy worked her socks off whilst her colleague was totally oblivious to anyone. The food was ok but a bit 'hotel produced' rather than chef led eg the belly pork had been cooked in a water bath so it was lovely and soft but none of the fat had rendered off it, the red cabbage was too sweet and overly soft offering no contrast to cut through the richness of the meat. Overall we had a pleasant time but I won't remember it for any good reasons and won't rush back.

Lovely Country hotel, very pleasant staff and good value for money. Great location for an overnight stay if travelling north or south. Really interesting building with historical links to Dickens in The Land of the Prince Bishops

Visited using a voucher given as a gift and added an extra person. On arrival was greeted well and seated in the main dining area. Dinner set was beautiful but was let down by packets of sugar and sweetener etc, would have felt more luxury without. Disappointed with the afternoon tea itself. The lady commented it had taken longer to be served as she had asked for more to be put on as there wasn’t enough for 3, it seemed we were only to be served for 2 even though we were paying for the 3rd. We were given 3 of everything, but not of all the little cakes, of these there was only 2 of each. The scones were very tasty however we were only served scones, no jam, cream or butter, which we had to request. This lead to the main issue, service is lacking. Once served no one came to check all was ok, we had to wave for service when staff came in the room, which was not frequently. When we had finished we waved for assistance, the staff ember said she would come but then left the room, returned and served 3 other tables (who had not requested help) before we gave up and asked a different member of staff who came through the room. Overall very disappointed and would have been even more disappointed if had paid £20 per head.

On arrival we anticipated good things. Unfortunately we were disappointed. It’s more like a poor old fashioned nursing home upstairs, the corridors are cold and smelly. Decor poor. Our room 15 was supposed to be a superior, it was above a delivery storeroom and there was lots of banging of doors and loud talking. The windows were frosted poorly to block the poor view. The bed linen was very sweaty smelling and there were no bathrobes or comfort in the room. Dinner was

Me and my Husband came here to round off our minimoon and thoroughly enjoyed every last minute of it, we were well looked after and staff such as Michelle, Georgina & Kathy (to name just a few) couldn’t have done more for us if they tried, we loved our spa treatments as well!

I surprised the wife with a trip here to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We were all in, room, breakfast, dinner, spa and treatments. The room was spot on with a lovely four poster bed and loads of room. Although not enough room for the wife to get away from my snoring. Dinner was delicious and Michelle and Georgina were a credit to the team as nothing was too much trouble for either of them. Breakfast was cracking too. As a Yorkshire man, I don't do spa treatments but I'd paid for them and I'm not made of money so went ahead with them. Ella has some sort of magic hands. The neck and scalp massage made any stress disappear, so much so that I booked in for a back massage the next day and soon enough my back felt like it did on my wedding day all those years ago. Everything was perfect and I can safely say I won't be waiting 10 years to come back
