Very difficult review, nice people and Mike has an excellent knowledge of local routes, roads and trails. If you like cats and dogs and basic accommodation this may work for you. Cat pee in the rooms is unacceptable to me, rooms are not terribly clean, often without towels. Food is hit and miss, as other reviewers have said it feels like...

Had a really great week at Casa Gustavo. On a walking holiday and Mike, our host, took us walking to areas of the Picos that others would never have heard of let alone find - superb! Lydia cooked excellent suppers for us every night and Lisa, Maureen and the kids looked after us really well the rest of the time....

We visited this place for two nights this summer during a trip on our bikes from Spain through France back to England. We were assured of secured parking for our bikes, but on arrival there wasn't anywhere secure. When I asked the owner (Mike) he said it would be ok, no one round there would steal anything, and showed us...

We were greeted at the airport by Mike, along with Lisa he was to be our host for the week. Immediately, we were put at ease and enjoyed the drive to our location/accommodation. Unpretentious and comfortable surroundings; friendly and hospitable people; superb, home cooked meals every evening (accompanied by plenty of the local red wine) and delicious breakfasts were provided....

Firstly, and most importantly - remember that this is a guest house, not a Parador! That out of the way, we had one of the most enjoyable holidays we have had for many years staying with Lisa, Mike and their children in their lovely, historic guest house in a sweet village on the side of the hill near Potes. Very...

Where do I start!! We booked this guest house(stayed in plenty over the years) for 4 days and left after 2. don't be fooled by the photos - it is certainly rustic(dark and dingy) - On arrival music was blearing from an outside speaker of a neighbouring property(possible neighbour dispute) and a confused elderly lady was wandering about outside. she...

I'm sorry I'd naively expected Olivia to be more responsible with the new drumkit and that you were disturbed. She has been reprimanded and now practices when everyone is out. Please don't worry about my Mum. Although it's not easy being with her 24 hours a day, she's much happier here with her family than she would be anywhere else....

The two of us used Casa Gustavo as a base for a short motorcycling holiday. The adventure began even before we arrived with the challenging ride up from the coast. On arrival, Lisa was extremely welcoming and had a meal prepared. During the whole stay, we were treated as house guests rather than customers. The property is very old and...

Mike and Lisa Stuart are the hosts. Mike's also an experienced mountain guide. The prices are very reasonable. The accommodations are fairly basic, but very comfortable. Breakfast is copious and dinners, cooked by their neighbor Lydia, are delicious. You may find yourself there alone or with other guests. The atmosphere is friendly, the alcohol is copious and the walking, trekking...

We spent a really nice week at Casa Gustavo with Lisa and Mike. I can understand why this place would not be suited to everybody, it can be a bit haphazard and is not really a "customer is always right" type of establishment. However, the customer is not always right, and it's refreshing to deal with genuine people, who were...

I had been before, but this was the first time in winter conditions. As it happened, all but one day was spent in summer gear with the addition on snowshoes. Mike sorted out my equipment and picked out a range of excursions to suit my capacity (and stretch it just a little bit), while Lisa made sure that there was...

“The best view is on the road side. Traffic is minimal, but the occasional farm vehicle early in the morning may disturb light sleepers. I nearly went out to kill a local resident strimming grass at 0630 one morning a few years ago!”
