"Ng'ona" Crocodile in Chichewa (the national language of Malawi) Ngona Lodge is an oasis in the African bush.We offer accommodation of a high standard, a campsite with braai facilities, and can arrange game drives and other activities in Majete Game Reserve. Situated on the banks of the Shire River, it is common to see crocs sunbathing on the sand banks and rocks below the rapids. These are the same rapids where David Livingstone had to dismantle his boat to continue his exploration of the African interior.

The best combination of total relaxation at the pool, beautiful views over the shire river, delicious food, lovely staff and Monika is very friendly! Majete just around the corner. Beautiful national park where you can see a whole lot of game

A must visit place. Beautiful lodges far better than most in Malawi. A few Austrian/German dishes. A well stocked bar. A Swimming Pool overlooking the River Shire. A perfect place for relaxation 🙌🙌🙌

We recently spent one night at Ng'ona and absolutely loved it. The location is spectacular, the food tasty and plentiful, and the service both warm and efficient. We booked a game drive and boat ride through the lodge and Monika the owner drove us to the park early in the morning and then picked us up in between the two activities to take us back for a hearty breakfast. We were only there for 24 hours but both left feeling refreshed and relaxed. We opted for the full board package which turned out to be excellent value. Would highly recommend!

Ng'ona Lodge is a real bush oasis, set in a marvelous location on the Shire River. The 4 "chalets" are well appointed - roomy and comfortable, with an abundance of hot water in the large bathrooms. the staff are super-helpful, and the meals are excellent. (A word of caution - the chalets are not air-conditioned.) The dining area is open, with beautiul river views. The Majete Wildlife Reserve is 5 minutes away, and during the course of an afternoon game drive (alone with only the ranger/driver) I encountered 3 x lions, giraffes, elephants. hippos, crocodiles, warthogs, kudu, bushbuck, impala, gazelle. The highly interesting and friendly village of Maganga is 5 minutes away on a safe foot path, and the riverscapes are beautiful with their huge granite outcrops, which can be surveyed from the lovely infinity swimming pool. No evening "entertainment" - this is a "nature" destination. Highly recommended - and the 90 minutes drive from Blantyre also offers some stunning landscapes.…

My first visit to ngona and it didn't disappoint stunning rooms, stunning location and the infinity pool with its breath taking scenes looking onto the shire River 😘 the staff are very helpful and even jakey and simba welcome you when you have food 😂. Recommend the safari not 5 mins away from lodge. Definately a amazing adventure.

Absolutely stunning river side location. Incredibly peaceful and beautiful. Loved the infinity pool over looking the river. The rooms were very comfortable and clean with some thoughtful little touches included. A real shame we could only stay one night, I would absolutely have loved to stay longer. Food was fantastic, very hearty and delicious - and very generous in portion sizes! Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Very near to Majete Park entrance. We hope to stay again, and for longer, in the near future!

Lovely spot to get away from it all. Will be back soon. Close to Blantyre along a dusty road but a real oasis at the end of it. Tasty lunch specials and cold beers. Shady campsites and clean ablutions. Magic spot to be.

This was my first visit, and only because the accommodation at Majete National Park was full. And I could not have had a happier experience! This Lodge is absolutely amazing . Located along the banks of Siri River, if lucky you can spot crocs and hippos. The lodge has a small swimming pool, once in the pool you look out over the river. Food is really good, service is spot on. The owner Maggie ( an Austrian Lady settled in Malawi) was a very graceful host. Forever, enquiring into your wellbeing .Getting up at 6 am to drive you to Majete, the national Park for a game drive. Maggie, if you get to read this, my time at N'gono Lodge ranks right up at the top with the best. Thank you.

Ng'ona Lodge was the last stay on our Responsible Safari Company organised tour of Malawi. We had selected it for its proximity to Majete national park and for the lure of a pool for our last day in country. The cabin was very spacious and comfortable with its own covered veranda with a view of the pool and the river. There is also a large dining and bar area. At the weekends the lodge is popular with day visitors but they are all gone by 5:00 and the lodge then becomes very peaceful. The food is good with an Austrian theme and appears to be geared to the day visitor market. Monica, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. She booked our trip into the Majete reserve for us and drove us the kilometer up the track to the park gates where we picked up our safari vehicle. The safari was amazing and was the main reason we came to Ng'ona. The pool was very welcome with very good views over the Shire river. N'gona ia a good choice for a visit to Majete.…
