Ten of us hired the whole hostel for a five day silent Buddhist retreat in the first week of January. It was a wonderful location. Easy to get to from central Scotland. Inside the hostel was cosy and and warm - in every sense of the word. We used the hay loft for a meditation room. I would be a different experience sharing it with others but probably still lovely. The owners are friendly and helpful even forwarding on the sleeping bag I left behind. Walking hint: Walk around the right of the field opposite to the River Tay and follow it upstream till you see a track up to the road. Cross the road and climb the hill before descending back down to Caputh and coming out by the church. Wonderful views.
We hired this hostel for New Year and it was fantastic - clean, homely, central and very warm. Lots of places to walk nearby and a small playground about a minute away. Perfect for families. Showers were great, three bathrooms. Kitchen was very well equipped. Only tiny quibble would be that the mattresses were so comfy and big that there wasn't a safety rail so I didn't let the kids sleep on the top bunk, but it did mean the beds were very comfortable! The owners were a total delight to deal with, we'd definitely stay again. Additionally, it was reasonably priced for Hogmanay in Scotland. A real find.
Lesley was amazingly kind to us when we arrived early with a poorly teenager. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped and very clean. The showers were heaven, hot and fast. The communal area was full of sofas and musical instruments. The perfect stop.
An amazing, clean and friendly place in the middle of the pertshire, perfect for visit perthshire (that is wonderful) and Fife, it is also a perfect and quiet place also for the Edinburgh airport (1 h.), easy to find.
Thank you to Lesley for allowing us to stay here, very well equipped with a great wood burner. Rooms very comfortable , in fact too comfortable for my son ( difficult to get him up for his early starts at Grandtully kayaking). We had good weather ,so drying kayaking kit outside was not a problem. Perfect , just needs to be closer to Grandtully to make ideal for kayakers, but close to Dunkeld and a great cafe with great home made cakes near the cathedral .
