Situated in the heart of the arctic, the mountain lodge exhibits a deep-rooted connection to Norwegian farming and cabin culture. On average, Norwegians spend 60 days a year in cabins. This is a part of their cultural heritage. In earlier times the farmers brought their livestock into the mountains on pasture during the summer, and while herding the cows and sheep they lived in small cabins. At the mountain lodge they lived by the food they made, the berries they gathered, and whatever the nature offered them. At Bjørnfjell Mountain Lodge we want to give you the opportunity to take part in this Norwegian cabin culture. Stay comfortable inside our cozy cabins or in a room in the main lodge while enjoying the surrounding nature.

My colleagues and I went to Bjørnfjell Mountain Lodge for a two days writing session. The place was really quiet and cosy. The food was exellent; local and well prepared. For example, we were served a delicious meal of high quality reindeer meet accompanied by, among other things, wild growing lingonberries. The rooms were clean and the staff were superfriendly. I highly recomend a stay at Bjørnfjell Mountain Lodge.

Just returned from a wonderful 4 nights spent at the Bjornfjell Mountain Lodge, with my wife and 9 friends. The setting in the mountains is beautiful. the accommodation is modern, warm and cosy. The owner and staff are very helpful and friendly. They were willing to assist our group with booking transport and excursions. and anything else required. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty. A great experience, we would highly recommend.

Thank you all for a wonderful stay with a large group of 11. We had lovely food, amazing views and Lady Aurora even danced for us a few times! The Polar Night was great fun and the team arranged for us to get down to the Ice Hotel for lunch on our last day. Everything was magical.

Great location. Lovely cabin, cosy fireplace, good space and comfortable beds. Also has outdoor seating. Meals can be served in the restaurant or the cabin. We had ours in the cabin and it was so nice and relaxed for the family. Staff were very friendly and gave excellent service. We did sledging and had did the bonfire night experience. Both excellent. Was wishing we had skied too as the slope was right next to the cabin. Saw the northern lights. Cute sheep to feed and pet.

Lovely room with an incredibly comfy bed, beautiful lounge area and stunning landscape, all just perfect! Friendly and informal service by Synnøve and her team made it feel like staying at someone’s house. The polar night trip was great fun; the guys running this are really good company, so just like a good evening out with friends and the Northern Lights were a bonus! We were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny morning the next day so took out the show shoes which was great fun. Breakfast was a little busy and chaotic as only a small area so recommend getting there early if the lodge is busy. A perfect example of combining cosy and comfortable with modern and classy. I’d come back in a heartbeat and stay for longer.

We had a footage called Joraholmen. All the cottages are more or less the same and it is very cosy to stay. You can light your fireplace and sit behind the window. We stayed here for 3 nights and had a lot of snow. The chef-kok is a real chef and he cooked us to times a 6 course meal. And it was very well prepared. Everybody was very nice and polite. Overall an absolute yes to visit

We stayed here for two nights during our week long stay in Northern Norway and it was definitely one of the highlights! We arrived into Alta Airport and was picked up and taken to the Lodge which was about a 20 minute drive away. From the start we received excellent service, the staff were very friendly and attentive. There were very few guests staying at the lodge and we had booked one of the rooms off the main lodge. We were fortunate enough to have been offered a free upgrade to a private cabin. The views were lovely and peaceful looking at the snow covered mountains and trees. The private cabin was open plan and consisted of a kitchen area, lounge area, dining area and of course a bedroom and private bathroom with a hot shower. The rooms were very clean and modern with a Scandinavian twist. The first night we did the Polar Night experience which was even more special as it was just the two of us that had book on. The guide was very polite and chatty, telling us stories of Northern Norway and the Northern Lights. We were taken to the top of the mountain on snow mobiles and was taken to a small cabin, where there was an open log fire which we later used to cook our dinner. We had some great views looking down at the city, unfortunately no northern lights due to the snow clouds, but we had a great time hearing about the Norwegian culture and taking in all of the nature. It was very cold but we were provided with snow suits and snow boots and was able to sit in the cabin as much as we wanted. We prepared our own meals from a selection of reindeer, cod and salmon with a variety of vegetables. These were then cooked to perfection on the open fire along with some coffee. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable night and lasted from about 8pm - midnight. We had a lot of fun getting back down the slope to the cabins - no spoilers! We did get very hot and sweaty so jumped in a nice hot shower before heading to bed! In the morning we had a buffet breakfast and had a lot of choice of eggs, fish, meats and breads. We spent the afternoon mountain sledding and snow tubing. We were the only guests using the slopes that day but they opened the slops for us and prepared the snow so it was fresh and ready for us. It was very tiring but we had such a great time. This was my first experience of anything like this and I was a little anxious but I felt in safe hands with our guide. Overall the service was excellent, the lodge was clean and tidy, all staff were polite and the food was delicious. It was very peaceful and remote and the activities were really fun! I highly recommend the Mountain Lodge for a true stay in the country and a real Norwegian experience.

This is a place where they charge $500 to drive you 30 minutes to and from a dog dogsledding trip. Dogsledding not included. Five times as much as a taxi. Using the jacuzzi is $250 per use so count on spending $1,750 for a a week for the hot tub.

Hei Jan :) I am sorry you feel that our service isn`t worth what you paid for. We do offer transport to and from activity providers around the area. For this we charge 200 NOK which equals about 18-20 $ per person per way for a distance of 20 - 30 minutes. For longer transport, 40 - 45 minutes we charge 400,- NOK per person per way. Our reason for providing transport is to make activities like dogsledding, snowmobiling, icehotel and sami experiences available for our guests. Especially for singles, couples and small families. We do not differ our prices for Sundays, holydays etc. For using the spa cabin with sauna and outdoor jacuzzi we charge 400,- NOK per person for 2 hours privat rental. Anyway, we hope you have some good memories from your stay at Bjørnfjell Mountain Lodge. Vennlig hilsen Synnøve

We were greeted at the airport by Alvin, who was attentive and professional. He drove us to the lodge, even suggested a pit stop at the supermarket in case we needed groceries. He also explained about Alta to us in detail. We weren’t dressed for the cold then so Alvin helped us by carrying two pieces of heavy luggage to our cabin at one go. That was amazing! He explained the cabin to us as well. However, we had some issues with the cabin and had to call for his help late at night. Alvin came over to our cabin and helped us out immediately. We didn’t get to see him after that day so would like to express our thanks! At the main building, we also interacted with a new member of their staff who just started her first day at work. She was very polite and welcoming. A humble and hardworking staff member of the team! Her earnest attitude was memorable. The cabin was a good decision as it was well built, cosy and clean. We highly recommend that! It was a pity that we didn’t get to catch the northern lights but the stay in the countryside was still perfect!
